Diese hier umstandslos gegebene Definition wird im Buch grundlegend erklärt. In einzelnen Schritten, die keine Zwischenschritte auslassen, kann der Leser zu einem vollständigen Verständnis der Information gelangen. Auf dem Weg zu diesem Ziel ergibt sich eine Reihe von Einsichten, in denen der fundamentale Stellenwert des Informationskonzepts für die Grundlagen der Designforschung deutlich wird.
