    "Die chinesische Nationalbibliothek wird eine Software zur Konvertierung der Daten formate entwickeln, bevor diese Daten in WorldCat geladen werden können. Nach der Entwicklung und Konvertierung der Daten rechnet die chinesische Nationalbibliothek damit, im Jahr 2008 ungefähr 1,5 Millionen Datensätze an OCLC liefern zu können. Nach der Ergänzung in WorldCat werden die Einträge in chinesischen Schriftzeichen dargestellt. Die Datenkonvertierung und Lieferung in WorldCat soll auch über das Jahr 2008 hinaus fortgesetzt werden. »Für OCLC ist es eine Ehre, dass die chinesische Nationalbibliothek ihre Datenbestände WorldCat hinzugefügt hat,« sagt Andrew H. Wang, Vizepräsident von OCLC Asia Pacific. »China hat 5000 Jahre geschichtlicher Aufzeichnungen zu bieten und besitzt eines der ältesten Kulturerben der Menschheit.     "Asiens größte Bibliothek, die chinesische Nationalbibliothek, wird ihre bibliographischen Daten der WorldCat-Datenbank von OCLC hinzufügen. Dies macht es zukünftig jedem möglich, auf diese umfangreiche Titeldaten direkt zuzugreifen.     Large Swiss academic libraries stock 3 million titles documented in computerized catalogues. This data will be amalgamated with the Verbundkatalog Schweiz (VKS) to produce a national union catalogue. Unified cataloguing rules, clear definitions for data storage, operational guidelines and active participation of the original VKS database are needed. The government will help libraries financially according to their degree of participation in the project

    Abstract
    Summarises the findings of apilot project at the Austrian Planning centre for Academic Libraries to assess the ÖZDB-Compactsystem on CD-ROM, the first system for serials on CD-ROM to be used in the German speaking countries. The system makes available 47,713 titles from Vienna, Graz, Linz and Salzburg university Libraries locally on an Apple Macintosh computer. The firm was able to provide information about CD-ROM and to supply the hardware for the 6-week project. The whole programme was prepared centrally. It was possible to call up records both by title and by institution responsible, and of the desired degree of specificity. The systems allows the additional advantages option of CD-PAC (Compact Disc Public Access Catalogue) wich can be used in conjunction with the already established BIBOS system.

    Abstract
    Lecture given at the meeting of the committee on interloans and union catalogues at the 20th Austrian Librarian's Conference. The contents of the Österreichischen Zeitschriftendatenbank (ÖZDB) will be transferred into the data base of the Austrian Libraries' Cooperative, which uses the BIBOS system. Framework conditions of procedures have been established. The 3 data files of ÖZDB are linked logically and are redundance free; they contained over 660.000 entries in 1986. In 1988 there were 980 participants in the data base, mainly Austrian academic libraries. On-line services are included. Interim measures have been recommended for the transition period.

    Abstract
    The special collection scheme (SSG) was established in 1956 and developed parallel to the North Rhine-Westphalian union Catalogue. In 1960 the first printed alphabetical current catalogue of SSG literature was produced, listing 3.500 titles but not including all participating libraries. The range of the catalogue increased over the next 10 years; it is considered successful since statistics showed increased loans of listed material. Despite larger numbers of colleges and universities in North-Rhine Westphalia, SSG and its catalogues should survive: SSG allows small libraries to participyte aid.     Abstract
    The Zeitschriftendienst (ZD), a topical periodical analysis service, began publication in 1965 and now covers 200 periodicals. The Deutsche Bibliotheksinstitut has used electronic data processing for publishing since 1974. The editorial board processes and coordinates all incoming periodicals analysis. A committee advises on cataloguing problems, selects new entries and old material for discarding. In 1990 it was decided to use the Schlagwortnormdatei, a standardised subject heading system used in many libraries...The service is available in printed form on microfiche and disc. It may be possible to store ZD in in-house systems.

    Abstract
    By A.D. 2000 the English-speaking countries will have their English Short Title Catalogue (ESTC), listing all works printed before 1801. No equivalent German work is planned at present. ESTC will be based on UK short title catalogues published earlier, covering 1475-1640 (Pollard and Redgrave) and 1641-1700 (Wing). Since 1970 a pilot project has run for a short title catalogue, in machine-readable form, of 18th century works. Libraries abroad will add entries to ESTC. Entry structure is in modified MARC format. By autumn 1990 over 285.000 ESTC entires were retrievable. Material from Pollard and Redgrave and from Wing will be converted into machine-readable form, resulting in a national union catalogue. An ESTC of 19th century works is under consideration

    Abstract
    Über Pläne, Konzepte und Initiativen im Aufbau der Hand Press Book Datenbank (HPB), die frühe europäische Drucke bis etwa 1830 nachweist,wurde seit Beginn dieses Projekts in Deutschland geschrieben und gesprochen. Ein neuerlicher Bericht bietet sich in diesem Themenheft an. Einmal gilt es - nach wie vor - die nationalen Erschließungsprojekte in diesen europäischen Kontext einzufügen, d.h. deutsche Initiativen und Leistungen vor dem Hintergrund und mit den Perspektiven der Einbindung in ein umspannenderes Erschließungsgefüge zu sehen, zum anderen vollzieht sich die Entwicklung der HPB in einem dynamischen Prozess, dessen erreichte und angestrebte Ziele in regelmäßigem Abstand referiert werden können. Das zehnjährige Jubiläum der formalen Gründung des die HPB aufbauenden Consortium of European Research Libraries (CERL), das zur diesjährigen Mitgliederversammlung im November 2004 in Edinburgh zu feiern ist, lädt ebenfalls zu einer Würdigung des Geleisteten und einer Besinnung der deutschen Bibliotheken auf ihre Rolle, Mitwirkung und Beteiligung bei dieser europäischen Gemeinschaftsaufgabe ein.

    Abstract
    Bibliothekssigel werden in Deutschland seit über 100 Jahren an der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin vergeben. Entstanden ist das System der Bibliothekssigel anlässlich des Jahrhundertprojektes »Preußischer Gesamtkatalog«. Es wurde vom Auskunftsbüro der Deutschen Bibliotheken weiterentwickelt, das 1904 an der Königlichen Bibliothek etabliert worden war. Zur Entschlüsselung von Bibliothekssigeln gehören Sigelverzeichnisse, die von ihren unselbstständigen Anfängen im Rahmen der ersten Zeitschriften-Gesamtkataloge über regelmäßig publizierte eigenständige Druckproduktionen bis hin zum Sigelverzeichnis online als ständig aktualisierte Datenbank im ZDB-OPAC weiterentwickelt wurden. Das gedruckte Sigelverzeichnis ist zusammen mit der Online-Ausgabe ein wichtiges Instrument für den Leihverkehr, Bibliothekssigel werden auch für Online-Kataloge und die Online-Fernleihe eingesetzt. Bibliothekssigel sind eindeutige Kennzeichen,die Bibliotheken als Entitäten identifizieren. Das deutsche Sigelsystem bildet nun auch die Grundlage für den nationalen Identifier im neuen ISO Standard 15511, dem »International Standard Identifier for Libraries and Related Organizations (ISIL)« ,der quasi ein international gültiges Bibliothekssigel geschaffen hat. Bibliothekssigel und ISIL werden zusammen von der Sigelstelle der Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin innerhalb der Bibliotheksdatei der ZDB verwaltet.
