    Stattdessen werden ab dem Jahr 2010 neben der allgemein zugänglichen Datenbank https://portal.d-nb.de, mit der die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek die Erstverzeichnung und damit ihren gesetzlichen Auftrag erfüllt, neue - an die verschiedenen Kundenwünsche angepasste - elektronische Angebote Druckverzeichnisse und CD-ROM ablösen. In Anlehnung an die bisherigen gedruckten Ausgaben wird die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek die Nationalbibliografie als Online-Zeitschrift im PDF-Format kostenfrei über ihre Datenbank anbieten. Zusätzlich können die PDF-Dateien auf Wunsch auch kostenpflichtig auf dem WWW- bzw. FTP-Server der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek zum Abholen bereitgestellt werden. Die Gliederung in die Reihen A, B, C, H, M und T und den Neuerscheinungsdienst bleibt dabei unverändert, ebenso wird der Erscheinungsrhythmus beibehalten. Nutzungsmöglichkeiten, die sich darüber hinaus aus der gedruckten Nationalbibliografie ergaben, werden digital über das DNB-Portal angeboten, z.B. - Filter auf die einzelnen Reihen der Deutschen Nationalbibliografie und die Suche nach einzelnen Bibliografieheften, - Auswahl bestimmter Medienarten wie Online-Publikationen oder Dissertationen - Speicherung von Suchprofilen, Export von Trefferlisten als HTML-Datei. In einer weiteren Stufe sind auch RSS-Feeds und Alerting-Dienste geplant. Über Detailplanungen sowie die weitere Entwicklung wird die Deutsche Nationalbibliothek u.a. über die Mailing-Liste "ZD-news" informieren.
