Die Bandbreite der Sachgebiete ist dementsprechend groß und orientiert sich an der Wissenschaft: - Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft - Philosophie und Psychologie, Religion / Theologie - Sozialwissenschaften, Soziologie, Politik - Wirtschaft, Recht - Erziehung, Ethnologie, Sprache, Literaturwissenschaft - Mathematik, Physik, Chemie, Biologie - Technik - Medizin - Landwirtschaft, Informatik - Kunst, Architektur, Musik, Theater, Film - Sport - Geschichte Geographie, Reisen Bei der Auswahl der einzelnen Web-Quellen ließ sich die Autorin von Qualitätskriterien wie Alter der Webseite, der Zuverlässigkeit der Inhalte, der Aktualität aber auch von der Art der Trägerschaft leiten. Webseiten mit einem akademischen Hintergrund standen daher im Vordergrund, waren aber nicht ausschließlich vertreten. So finden sich auch Webseiten kommerzieller Anbieter (z.B. Scopus von Elsevier) oder auch anderer öffentlicher, nicht-akademischer Institutionen (wie der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek mit Ariadne) im Webseiten-Verzeichnis. Rund 200 deutsch- und englischsprachige Einträge werden im Buch genauer beschrieben, mit Informationen zum Inhalt des Angebots, der Urheberschaft und Angabe möglicher Kosten. Auch weiterführende Links werden häufig angeführt. Ein einführendes Kapitel zur Informationsrecherche rundet dieses gelungene Buch ab.
Empfehlung: Das Buch eignet sich meiner Meinung nach gut als Ausgangspunkt für die Recherche in einem noch unbekannten Sachgebiet. Zum einen, weil ein Sachgebiet von recht wenigen, dafür von der Autorin gut ausgesuchten Web-Quellen eingerahmt wird. Zum anderen, weil hier von vertrauenswürdigen Webseiten ausgegangen werden kann. Man kann es auch anders sagen: dieses Buch gehört möglichst nahe an jede InternetArbeitsstation. Aufgrund der Dynamik des Themas - Links und Webseiten können recht rasch "altern" - hat dieses Buch natürlich eine fast schon natürliche Lebensdauer. Hier wäre es interessant, und das ist weniger ein Hinweis an die Autorin als vielmehr ein Wink an den Verlag, die so detailreich beschriebenen Quellen auch online zugänglich zu machen, nämlich in der Form von Bookmarks, die von den Leserlnnen auf eigene Bookmarking-Tools übernommen werden könnten. Entweder ganz einfach als Favoriten im eigenen Browser oder zu elaborierten Werkzeugen wie Rollyo, wo individuelle Suchdienste basierend auf selbst erstellten Searchrolls bedient werden könnten. - Dieser Band gibt einen Überblick über 500 Jahre deutsche Buchhandelsgeschichte, über das Schreiben, Herstellen, Verkaufen und Lesen von Büchern. Angesprochen werden nicht nur Fachleute, sondern alle, die Interesse an Büchern und Literatur haben. Buchhandelsgeschichte bedeutet für Wittmann nicht nur eine Geschichte der (Sortiments-)Buchhandlungen. Buchhandel meint hier die Gesamtprozesse der Vermittlung von geistigem Kulturgut eines Autors über die materielle Speicherung dieses geistigen Produkts in Form von Büchern, die Finanzierung und Verbreitung durch Verlage und Sortimentsbuchhandlungen bis hin zum Leser. Wittmann teilt das von ihm behandelte halbe Jahrtausend seit Erfindung des Buchdrucks in zwölf Epochen auf und geht in jedem seiner Kapitel eben nicht nur auf Fragen der Herstellung und Verbreitung von Büchern ein (also die eigentliche Druck-, Verlags- und Buchhandelsgeschichte), sondern stellt auch jeweils fundierte Reflexionen über das Bild und die Rolle von Autoren sowie die Erwartungshaltungen, Vorlieben und Kenntnisse der Leser an. Dieser weite Blickwinkel bedingt natürlich, dass das dargebotenen Material für die jeweiligen Epochen nicht sehr ausführlich sein kann. Wittmann beschränkt sich häufig auf prägnante Beispiele für die jeweiligen Forschungsperspektiven. Seine Vorgehensweise bietet jedoch andererseits einen großen Vorteil: Dieses Buch ist eine interessante Lektüre nicht nur für Leute, die sich direkt für Buchhandelsgeschichte interessieren, sondern auch für solche, die einen Blick auf den Wandel des Autoren- und Leserbildes in der deutschen Gesellschaft der letzten 500 Jahre werfen wollen.

- Die International Bibliography of Bibliographies in Library and Information Science and Related Fields gliedert sich in zwei Teile mit insgesamt 61 Sachkapiteln, die das gesamte Spektrum der Themen rund um das Bibliothekswesen abdecken. Der erste Teil "General" umfaßt neun allgemeine Themenbereiche aus dem gesamten Bibliothekswesen. Im zweiten Teil folgen 52 systematisch nach speziellen Sachgebieten geordnete Kapitel: von "Access to library resources and services" über "Children's literature" und "Micrographics, Microforms" bis zu "Use and users in library and information services". Zusätzliche geographische bzw. chronologische Gliederungskriterien bestimmen den Aufbau zahlreicher Unterkapitel. Jeder Eintrag führt zunächst die bibliographischen Angaben (Autor oder Herausgeber, Titel, Verlag, bei Aufsätzen den jeweiligen Buch- oder Zeitschriftentitel mit Seitenangabe, eventuell Reihentitel, Erscheinungsjahr, Seitenzahl) au£ Hierauf folgen erläuternde Anmerkungen, ggf. mit der englischen Übersetzung des Originaltitels, mit Hinweisen auf Parallelausgaben und andere Auflagen, eine kurze Inhaltsangabe sowie Hinweise auf Rezensionen - auch über den Berichtszeitraum der Bibliographie hinaus. Vier Register (ein Autoren-, ein Titel- und ein Sachregister sowie ein geographischer Index) bieten einen raschen Zugriff auf dieses vielschichtige und umfassende Nachschlagewerk und erleichtern die schnelle und gezielte Recherche.

- Der jetzt vorliegende erste Band der International Bibliography of Bibliographies in Library and Information Science and Related Fields weist für den Zeitraum von 1945 bis 1978 ca. 10.000 Bibliographien zum Thema Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft nach. Auch verwandte Gebiete, wie beispielsweise Archivwesen, Verlagswesen, Buchhandel, Geschichte der Schrift, Buchgeschichte, Papiergeschichte, Geschichte des Buchdrucks, Buchkunst oder Urheberrecht finden Berücksichtigung. Damit ist diese Bibliographie, die in zwei Bänden mit zusammen ca. 20.000 Einträgen den gesamten Zeitraum vom Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs bis 1990 abdeckt, die umfassendste ihrer Art. Als Quellengrundlage für den ersten Band dienten zahlreiche internationale und nationale Bibliographien, Fachbibliographien und Enzyklopädien für den Bereich der Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft, themenrelevante Fachzeitschriften sowie eine bereits 1985 von Henryk Sawoniak in Polen veröffentlichte einschlägige Bibliographie. Mehr als ein Drittel der aufgenommenen Bibliographien erschien selbständig in Buchform, jeweils etwa ein Viertel in Zeitschriften oder als Teil eines Buches. Bd.2 weist für den Zeitraum 1979-1990 mehr als 10.000 Bibliographien zu den Themen Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft, Buchhandel und Verlage, Reprographie, Buchkunst, Urheberrecht, Geschichte des Buches und des Drucks, des Alphabets und der Schrift, der Papierherstellung und vielen weiteren Randgebieten des Bibliothekswesens nach.

- Die Diskettenausgabe kumuliert laufend die Nachweise der Druckausgabe des Fachreferatedienstes DOBI ab Jg.10(1993). Die erste Lieferung enthält über 11.000 Nachweise (auf 4 Disketten), ca. 3.000 kommen jährlich hinzu. Bei ca. 2/3 der Einträge handelt es sich um Nachweise deutscher Literatur, die im Auswertungsspektrum der internationalen Referateblätter zum Bibliotheks- und Informationswesen nur in geringem Umfang vertreten ist. Durch die Auswahl ausländischer Literatur dokumentiert DOBI für die deutsche Fachöffentlichkeit wesentliche Entwicklungen im Ausland sowie internationale Aktivitäten

- Abstract
- Als Otlet und La Fontaine um 1900 den Begriff Bibliographie durch den moderneren Begriff Dokumentation ersetzten und im Sinne einer Dokumentationswissenschaft von Dokumentologie sprachen, um damit auch den Weg zu öffnen, immer mehr "Neue Medien", wie Lochkartensysteme, Filme, Mikrofiches, Schallplatten, Magnetbandaufzeichnungen, etc. in die bibliothekarische Wissensbewahrung zu integrieren, da geriet das Bibliothekswesen in eine Zerreißprobe, die für Deutschland besonders nachhaltig war. Eigentlich war es nur ein Zeichen dafür, dass die Bibliothekswissenschaft plötzlich eine so große Dynamik bekam, dass ein Teil ihrer Vertreter sich immer stärker an den rasanten Entwicklungen dieser "Neuen Medien", dann an den informationsverarbeitenden Maschinen und an der Digitalisierung orientierten, während sich andere um so mehr darum bemühten, alte Erfahrungen und das bereits etablierte Wissen nicht dem Untergang preis zu geben. Diese Zerreißprobe hat zunächst auch international eine tiefe Spaltung zwischen Dokumentation und Bibliothekswesen hervorgebracht. Die "alte" Bibliothek erschien zunehmend "verstaubt" gegenüber der modernen Dokumentation, die ihrerseits allerdings einen Namen trug, der sich als Berufsbild in der breiten Bevölkerung nie so recht durchsetzen konnte. Heute hat die Digitale Bibliothek beide wieder vereinigt und damit das Berufsbild Dokumentar auf einen speziellen Bereich, der Erschließung nicht publizierter Dokumente, neben dem Archivar fokussiert.

- Abstract
- Im Folgenden soll aufgezeigt werden, wie derzeit das Literaturverwaltungsprogramm Zotero innerhalb des Index Theologicus genutzt wird, um unselbstständige Literatur in einem bibliothekarischen Katalogisierungssystem zu erfassen. Die modulare und flexible Architektur der Open Source Software erlaubt es, die bereits kollaborativ zusammengetragene Programmierarbeit zur Datenextraktion mitzunutzen. Das vorgestellte semiautomatische Verfahren bringt auch bei der Verknüpfung von Normdaten erhebliche Vorteile für die Medienbearbeitung.

- Abstract
- Die bisherige Verzeichnung der deutschen Drucke des 18. Jahrhunderts stellt sich - abgesehen von der seit Beginn der neunziger Jahre laufenden Katalogisierung in der Göttinger »Arbeitsstelle Sammlung Deutscher Drucke (1701-1800)« - äußerst defizitär dar: Die zeitgenössischen Buchhändlerverzeichnisse und das GV-alt beruhen weder auf Autopsie noch erschließen sie die Buchproduktion vollständig. Die in den Verbünden vorliegende umfangreiche Titelmenge an Retrodaten hat großenteils ein ungenügendes bibliographisches Niveau. Um nationalbibliographischen Standard zu erreichen, ist eine Neukatalogisierung dringend erforderlich. Erst ein auf nationaler wie internationaler Kooperation basiertes »VD18« kann der Forschung das zur Verfügung stellen, was bereits seit Jahrzehnten als Desiderat formuliert wird: eine retrospektive Nationalbibliographie des 18. Jahrhunderts.

- Abstract
- In dieser Arbeit wird das VD 17-Projekt vorgestellt. Der Erörterung des Themas ist zunächst ein kurzer Exkurs in die Entwicklungsgeschichte des Projekts vorangestellt, um einen Überblick über die Vorgeschichte und Planungsohasen des Projekts zu gewähren. Im Mittelpunkt stehen daher 4 Aspekte: zunächst wird der Inhalt des Verzeichnisses anhand des geographischen Umfangskonzeptes, der inhaltlichen Schwerpunkte der Teilnehmerbibliotheken sowie durch die inhaltlichen Erschließung und die dafür angeandten Regelwerke. - Abstract
- Das lang geplante Großprojekt eines Verzeichnisses der im deutschen Sprachraum erschienenen Drucke des 17. Jahrhunderts ist nach Abschluss der Vorbereitungsphase im Dezember 1995 in diesem Jahr in die Hauptphase eingetreten. Die Vorgeschichte, die inhaltlich-konzeptuellen Eckpfeiler sowie die Entwicklung und Realisierung dieses nationalen Unternehmens werden im folgenden in einem notwendigerweise komprimierten Überblick rekapituliert. Dabei erweist sich - sicherlich paradigmatisch für ein bibliographisches Projekt der Informationsgesellschaft -, daß die Darstellung der technischen Grundlagen ein ebenso großes Gewicht erhält wie die Fragen von Regelwerk und Erschließungstiefe
