    Abstract
    Der schriftliche Output der Naturwissenschaften verdoppelt sich etwa alle 10 Jahre. Dieses quantitative Wachstum bedeutet, daß die Wissenschaft bei Beibehalten der derzeitigen Informationsverarbeitung und -speicherung in absehbarer Zeit an ihrer eigenen Produktivität ersticken wird: einerseits wird man die Mengen an Papier nicht mehr lagern können und andererseits wird man auch nicht mehr darin suchen und etwas finden können. Ein Ansatz zur Bewältigung dieses Dilemmas zwischen wachsender Produktivität und Verfügbarkeit liegt im Einsatz von modernen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologie (IKT). Die IKT verspricht insbesondere Unterstützung in der Bewältigung der Probleme der Informationsspeicherung und der Informationsfindung
