    Abstract
    Noch Ende der 80er Jahre galt für Wissenschaftler, Wirtschafts- und Verwaltungsfachleute abgesichts weniger verfügbarer CD-ROM Datenbanken die Devise, lediglich einen einzigen PC innerhalb der organisation mit einem einzigen CD-ROM Laufwerk auszurüsten, auf dem dann die ein oder allenfalls zwei einschlägigen CD-ROM Anwendungen installiert wurden. Da die wenigsten Kolleginnen und Kollegen einen PC auf dem Schreibtisch hatten, wurde der Aufstellungsort des CD-ROM Laufwerks nur selten als problematisch empfunden. Anfang 1993 hat sich das Bild grundlegend gewandelt. Bildschirmarbeitsplätze gehören zum beruflichen Alltag. In etlichen Fachgebieten gibt es Dutzende CD-ROM Datenbanken, die für gezielte Recherchen nützlich sind. Nicht selten fungieren die einstigen Pilotanwender als disc jockeys, die für sich (und die Kollegenschaft) immer wieder andere CD-ROM Anwendungen in das Einzellaufwerk einlegen müssen. In dieser Situation wird immer häufiger der Wunsch, die CD-ROM in ein PC-Netzwerk einzubinden, artikuliert. Und schon gibt es Lizenzprobleme
