- Abstract
- Es wird der Wissensbegriff und das Ordnungswissen, wie es sich aus der aristotelisch-thomistischen Tradition herleitete mit den Auffassungen über Wissensformen, wie sie bei Hobbes, Locke und anderen Autoren der beginnenden Neuzeit bestehen, in Verbindung gebracht und am Beispiel der Klassifikationsversuche von Bacon, Descartes, Leibniz, Locke und Hobbes untersucht, in welchem Maße der Methodendualismus von Empirismus und Rationalismus in die Klassifikationsmomente eingeht, wieweit zugleich auch wissenschaftsgeschichtliche, wissenssoziologische, gesellschaftspolitische und wissenschaftsorganisatorische Faktoren auf die Klassifikation einwirken, welche verschiedenen Ansätze zu einer Wissensordnung unternommen wurden in einer Epoche, die nicht unwesentlich die weitere Wissenschaftsentwicklung bestimmt hat

- Abstract
- Für die menschliche Erlebnis- und Erfahrungsweise sind Raum und Zeit die wesentlichen Ordnungsstrukturen. Die bewußte Wahrnehmung raum-zeitlicher Gebilde kommt im Gehirn zustande: In den Sinnesorganen werden bestimmte Reize physikalischer und chemischer Natur in nervöse Erregungen umgewandelt, die dem Gehirn zugeleitet und dort in komplizierter Weise verarbeitet werden. Die Ausführungen versuchen, den Kenntnishorizint der Hirnforschung im Grenzgebiet der bewußten Wahrnehmung und die Reichweite der vorhandenen Theorien der menschlichen Großhirnfunktion zu skizzieren und behandeln zuletzt die psychischen Erlebniswelten von Raum und Zeit und deren Störungen

- Abstract
- Die Situation der mathematischen Literatur ist geprägt durch Preissteigerungen, die nun - wie vorher schon andere naturwissenschaftliche Fächer - auch die Mathematik erreicht haben. Diese Situation macht es vielen Bibliotheken immer schwerer, die Zahl der Zeitschriftenabonnements aufrecht zu erhalten und eine ausreichende Anzahl relevanter Monographien zu kaufen. Die Situation ist aber auch geprägt durch eine Zunahme der Vielfalt in der Erscheinungsform mathematischer Literatur und der Nachweisinstrumente. Dies bringt manche Änderung mit sich; manchmal mehr Komfort, hin und wieder auch heue Probleme. In diesem Beitrag soll die vor einiger Zeit an anderer Stelle begonnene Berichterstattung über die fachbibliographische Situation auf dem Gebiet der Mathematik fortgesetzt und ein Überblick bis zum Jahre 1985 gegeben werden. Leider hat sich an dem schon damals beklagten Zustand der mangelnden Berichterstattung über die fachbibliographische Situation in den Naturwissenschaften bis heute nichts geändert. So gibt es zwar die vorzügliche Rubrik von Klaus Schreiber in der Zeitschrift für Bibliothekswesen und Bibliographie, die Naturwissenschaften sind dort aber nicht überrepräsentiert, und auch an anderer Stelle ist kein Ersatz in Sicht; ein angesichts rascher Änderungen auf manchem Gebiet bedauerlicher Zustand. Neben den Neuerungen bei den bekannten Referateorganen sollen die seit einiger Zeit nunmehr auch für die Mathematik online zu recherchierenden Datenbanken erwähnt werden. Berücksichtigen wollen wir diesmal auch die Didaktik der Mathematik und die Statistik. Nicht berücksichtigt werden soll hingegen die Informatik; dieses in den letzten Jahren stark expandierende Gebiet mit einer Reihe von Besonderheiten in der fachlich relevanten Literatur (Produkt-Literatur, Firmenschriften, Software-Bibliotheken u.a.) verdient eine eigene Darstellung. Darüberhinaus wollen wir versuchen, einige weitere nützliche Hinweise für den Umgang mit mathematischer Literatur zu geben.

- Abstract
- Aufgabe der Datenanalyse ist es, Daten zu ordnen, übersichtlich darzustellen, verborgene und natürlich Strukturen zu entdecken, die diesbezüglich wesentlichen Eigenschaften herauszukristallisieren und zweckmäßige Modelle zur Beschreibung von Daten aufzustellen. Es wird ein Einblick in die Methoden und Prinzipien der Datenanalyse vermittelt. Anhand typischer Beispiele wird gezeigt, welche Daten analysiert, welche Strukturen betrachtet, welche Darstellungs- bzw. Ordnungsmethoden verwendet, welche Zielsetzungen verfolgt und welche Bewertungskriterien dabei angewendet werden können. Diskutiert wird auch die angemessene Verwendung der unterschiedlichen Methoden, wobei auf die gefahr und Art von Fehlinterpretationen hingewiesen wird

- "Was ist Belletristik? Haben Homer, Vergil, Dante, Shakespeare und Goethe, um nur einige europäische Klassiker zu nennen, Belletristik verfaßt? Ebenso Klopstock, Lessing und Wieland, um weitere deutsche Autoren zu nennen, Herder und Schiller oder Hölderlin und Kleist? Auch George, Hofmannsthal und Rilke oder Heinrich Mann, Döblin und Feuchtwanger? Kann man sie als Belletristen bezeichnen? Nach den Auffassungen einiger einflußreicher Bibliothekare und Bibliographen anscheinend ja! Und was ist Belletristik heute, einige Jahrzehnte nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg? - Abstract
- Ausgehend von einer Diskussion der Gestaltungskonzeptionen und der Leistungsfähigkeit heutiger Volltext-Retrieval-Systeme wird ein Überblick über den Leistungsumfang des für die Aufbereitung und Präsentation von Textinformation zuständigen Systems TWRM-TOPOGRAPHIC gegeben. TWRM-TOPOGRAPHIC ist Teil eines neuartigen Informationssystems, das sich auf inhaltsorientierte Repräsentation von Volltexten stützt. Die beiden wesentlichsten Leistungsmerkmale von TWRM-TOPOGRAPHIC sind die graphische Retrievaldialogführung und die flexible, situationsgerechte Aufbereitung und Präsentation von Textwissen: Die Dialogführung erlaubt dem Benutzer die direkte Navigation in den auf dem Bildschirm graphisch dargestellten Wissensstrukturen, die Selektion dargestellter Objekte zur Formulierung einer Query sowie das Wechseln des Abstraktionsniveaus der dargestellten Textinformation. Die Aufbereitung und die Präsentation von Textwissen sind kognitiv-ergonomisch begründet und berücksichtigen sowohl die begrenzte Aufnahmekapazität der Benutzer als auch die Bedeutung der zeitlichen Anordnung von Informationseinheiten für die Wahmehmungs- und Gedächtnisleistung der Rezipienten. Textwissen wird in unterschiedlichen Abstraktionsstufen präsentiert: von einer sehr generischen Ebene über Wissensgraphen, automatisch generierten Abstracts bis zur diskursiven Form der Textpassage. Die Generierungskomponente des Systems leistet einen Beitrag zum situationsgerechten Systemverhalten dadurch, daß sie aus semantischen Text-Repräsentationsstrukturen unter Berücksichtigung textueller Wohlgeformtheitsbedingungen benutzerangepaßte Abstracts mit unterschiedlichem Themenschwerpunkt und variabler Ausführlichkeit produziert. Die Erprobung verschiedener LayoutVerfahren im Projekt TWRM-TOPOGRAPHIC wird durch ein flexibles, objektorientiert spezifiziertes User-Interface-Mangagement-System (UIMS) unterstützt, dessen Objektklassen und deren Interaktionsmöglichkeiten vorgestellt werden. Die Darstellung des Systems wird mit einem ausführlichen Dialogbeispiel abgeschlossen, das die Funktion des Interface und die Wirkung der drei zentralen Operatoren (Select, Zoom und Browse) im Retrievaldialog illustriert.
