- Abstract
- Bibliotheken stehen im Spannungsfeld zwischen sich verändernden Erwartungen der potentiellen Benutzer/innen, technologischem Wandel, Sparzwängen und steigenden Kosten für Inhalte und Infrastrukturen. Um fortzubestehen müssen sie sich neu erfinden. Eine Möglichkeit ist es, das Paradigma Offenheit auszufüllen, wonach u.a. die eigenen Kernprodukte entsprechend geltenden Webstandards für jeden frei zugänglich zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Um dies zu erreichen, müssen neue Infrastrukturen aufgebaut und neue Bündnisse eingegangen werden. Der Beitrag geht auf einen Vortrag auf dem Symposium Bibliotheks- und Informationsmanagement der Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart im Dezember 2014 zurück.

- Abstract
- Die Auseinandersetzung um die Verankerung eines Zweitveröffentlichungsrechts im Urheberrecht wird aus den unterschiedlichen Perspektiven der beteiligten Akteure diskutiert. Komplexer wird das Problem dadurch, dass das Zweitveröffentlichungsrecht als Mittel der indirekten oder direkten Begünstigung des Open-Access-Paradigmas gesehen wird. Zwar soll das Zweitveröffentlichungsrecht in erster Linie die informationelle Selbstbestimmung der Autoren fördern. Als Zweitveröffentlichungsverpflichtung zugunsten von Open-Access-Repositories soll jedoch auch dem Interesse der Öffentlichkeit an einem freien Zugriff zu dem mit öffentlichen Mitteln erstelltem Wissen Rechnung getragen werden. Das wird zumindest in Deutschland als Eingriff in Wissenschaftsfreiheit für problematisch gehalten. Wissenschaftsfreiheit hängt jedoch nicht von einer positiven Publikationsfreiheit bei der Zweitveröffentlichung ab. Ein Zweitveröffentlichungsrecht (der Autoren und der sie tragenden Institutionen) könnte als Übergang zu einer vollständig durch das Open-Access-Paradigma bestimmten Wissenschaftskommunikation angesehen werden.

- Abstract
- Die Industrialisierung ist die zweite »große Transformation« in der Menschheitsgeschichte, angetrieben durch die immense Nutzung fossiler Rohstoffe wie Kohle und Erdöl. In den letzten Jahrzehnten hat dieser Prozess der Ausbeutung der natürlichen Ressourcen eine solche Dynamik erlangt, dass Forscher von einem neuen Erdzeitalter, dem »Anthropozän«, sprechen. Wissenschaftler der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft (MPG) haben die Mechanismen dieser Beschleunigung genauer untersucht und als zentralen neuen Treiber den Umgang mit der Ressource »Daten« - die Digitalisierung mithilfe der Computertechnik - ausgemacht. Erst durch die massenhafte Verbreitung der Informationstechnik sei die Überschreitung der »planetaren Grenzen« ökologischer Nachhaltigkeit möglich geworden. Ihr neues Paradigma, den Wandel der Welt zu verstehen, nennen die Forscher »Geo-Anthropologie« und schlagen die Gründung eines eigenen Forschungsinstituts vor, das sich den »Perspektiven für die Erhaltung des Lebensraums Erde« widmen soll.

- Abstract
- Spätestens seit dem Deutschen Bibliothekartag 2018 hat sich die Diskussion zu den automatischen Verfahren der Inhaltserschließung der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek von einer politisch geführten Diskussion in eine Qualitätsdiskussion verwandelt. Der folgende Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit Fragen der Qualität von Inhaltserschließung in digitalen Zeiten, wo heterogene Erzeugnisse unterschiedlicher Verfahren aufeinandertreffen und versucht, wichtige Anforderungen an Qualität zu definieren. Dieser Tagungsbeitrag fasst die vom Autor als Impulse vorgetragenen Ideen beim Workshop der FAG "Erschließung und Informationsvermittlung" des GBV am 29. August 2018 in Kiel zusammen. Der Workshop fand im Rahmen der 22. Verbundkonferenz des GBV statt.
