    Abstract
The author stresses the need for a general, overall theory of cognitive psychological processes for cognitive science. The relevance of the Graz-school theorie on the 'production of ideas' is then examined as an attempt to provide such a framework. In Graz-school, at the beginning of 20th century, representation ('Vorstellung') was the foundational aspect of all the cognitive processes. As an example of an analysis of the origin of representation Stephan Witasek's theory of sensation is surveyed. The explanation of the origin of representations is also theoretically and practically important for cognitive science

    Abstract
Reflects on the situation a few years ago in the field of subject access in libraries and evaluates the present situation in the light of recent developments. Discusses factors which characterise the situation in West Germany today. Examines the organisation of cooperative subject access during the course of which various relationships are explored, and the dovetailing of the network and local library operations, and the formation of local and on-line catalogues are discussed. Describes the relationship between formal and subject access; discusses cooperation in the allocation of catchwords, and cooperation in classified subject access; and addresses 2 forms of cooperative subject access

    Abstract
Describes the result of seminars on the software package, Allegro, on 27-28 Oct and 3-4 Nov 88, organised by Brunswick Technical University Library and the Herzog August Library in Wolfenbüttel, in order to provide an opportunity for exchanging experiences on different Allegro applications, as well as information on current developments of Allegro and its prospects. Examines a series of case histories, including the use of Allegro in small libraries for cataloguing and the production of card catalogues, the creation of lists of new titles and subject catalogues for circulation, the cataloguing of periodicals with data in MARC format on CD-ROM, the use of Allegro in both MS-DOS and UNIX environment, and improvements in response times, as well as the introduction of window technology.

    Abstract
Information research consists of the comparison of 2 sources of information - that of formal description and content analysis and that based on the needs of the user. Information research filters identical elements from the sources by means of document and research cross-sections. Establishing such cross-sections for scientific documents and research questions is made possible by classification. Through the definition of the terms 'class' and 'classification' it becomes clear that the terms 'hierarchic classification' and 'classification' cannot be used synonymously. The basic types of information research languages are both hierarchic and non-hierarchic arising from the structure of lexicology and the paradigmatic relations of the lexicological units. The names for the lexicological units ('descriptor' and 'subject haedings') are synonymous, but it is necessary to differentiate between the terms 'descriptor language' and 'information research thesaurus'. The principles of precoordination and post-coordination as applied to word formation are unsuitable for the typification of information research languages
