    Ganz anders sieht das in den beiden Themenblöcken "Datamining-Verfahren und - Anwendungen" und "Semantische Netze - Wissen professionell organisieren" aus. In beiden geht es im Wesentlichen um die komplexe Frage, wie man mit automatisierten oder halbautomatisierten Verfahren den wachsenden Informationsmengen Herr werden kann. Das Thema Datamining wird teilweise im Zusammenhang mit dem der Bibliometrie behandelt, das Gegenstand der zweiten Konferenz der Jülicher Zentralbibliothek war. H, Peter Ohly erläutert die Begriffe Text Mining, Data Mining, Knowledge Discovery u. a. und weist auf eine interessante Parallele zwischen dem " bibliometric mining" und den Prinzipien der Google-Suche hin (S. 179). Philipp Mayr und Christian Nancoz beschäftigen sich mit "Webometrie", der Analyse von Internet-Zugriffs-Logdateien, und arbeiten Parallelen zur Zitationsanalyse heraus (S. 199 ff.). Der Beitrag von Han Sucheng und Harayama Yuko weitet den Blick über die Grenzen Europas hinaus auf Innovationen in China und Japan (S. 183 ff.). Im Block "Semantische Netze" werden teilweise sehr spezielle Projekte vorgestellt. Rainer Hammwöhner und Rainer Straub stellen das Regensburger Signalpfadinformationssystem vor (S. 237 ff.). Das Auffinden von Signalpfaden ist ein Forschungsgebiet in Biologie, Biochemie und Medizin; hier geht es um neue Formen der Wissenschaftskommunikation. Ähnlich fachspezifisch geht es bei Thorsten Brix, Ulf Döring und Sabine Trott zu, die einen "modernen Wissensraum für die Getriebetechnik" vorstellen (S. 251 ff.). Maximilian Stampfhuber setzt sich für die Integration unterschiedlicher Informationstypen, also eine Text-Fakten-Integration, aus der Sicht der Marktforschung ein (S. 263 ff.). Iryna Gurevych stellt die Berufsberatung als Anwendungsfall von Information Retrieval vor und fordert die Integration von semantischem Wissen in Suchprozesse (S. 287 ff.)."
