    Das Fachinformationszentrum (FIZ) Karlsruhe ist als internationale Drehscheibe für Fachinformation seit Jahrzehnten verlässlicher und professioneller Servicepartner der Informationssuchenden in Wissenschaft und Technik. Neue web-basierte Dienstleistungen und Produkte erlauben dem professionellen Informationsbroker ebenso wie dem gelegentlichen Onliner oder Internet Pedestrian den effizienten und kostengünstigen Zugang zu Metadaten, naturwissenschaftlich-technisehen Daten und Fakten. Elektronische Volltexte per Hyperlink oder die komplette Dokument-Vermittlung werden gleichfalls angeboten. Die Weiterentwicklung und flexible Anpassung der Informationssysteme ermöglichen auch die Verknüpfung mit lokalen und regionalen Netzen der Forschungseinrichtungen und Hochschulen.     Abstract
    In der biomedizinischen Forschung werden besonders in den letzten Jahren vermehrt enorme Mengen an neuen Daten produziert und diese in Folge verstärkt per Internet veröffentlicht. Viele Experten sehen in dieser Vorgehensweise die Chance zur Entdeckung bisher unbekannter biomedizinischer Erkenntnisse. Um dies jedoch zu ermöglichen, müssen neue Wege gefunden werden, die gewonnenen Daten effizient zu verarbeiten und zu verwalten. In dem vorliegenden Artikel werden die Möglichkeiten betrachtet, die das Semantic Web hierzu anbieten kann. Hierfür werden die relevanten Technologien des Semantic Web im speziellen Kontext der biomedizinischen Forschung betrachtet. Ein Fokus liegt auf der Anwendung von Ontologien in der Biomedizin: Es wird auf deren Vorteile eingegangen, aber auch auf möglichen Probleme, die deren Einsatz in einem erweiterten wissenschaftlichen Umfeld mit sich bringen können.

    Abstract
    Die historischen Wurzeln des Semantic Web reichen zurück in die Artificial Intelligence Forschung der 1960er und -70er Jahre. Konzepte aus der Light Weight Artificial Intelligence wie Frames, Microworlds und Heuristic Programming stellten erste Versuche der maschinenverarbeitbaren Wissensrepräsentation dar. Hier ging es nicht darum, intelligentes Verhalten zu simulieren, sondern Methoden zu entwickeln, die den Menschen in seiner Entscheidungsfindung unterstützen. Durch die inhaltliche Beschreibung (semantische Anreicherung) von Datenbeständen mit maschinenlesbaren Metadaten und Scripts wurden Maschinen in die Lage versetzt autonom Daten zu verarbeiten. Der Computer sollte in der Lage sein, den Kontext, in dem Daten erzeugt und abgelegt werden, zu "verstehen" und darauf basierend für den Nutzer relevante Daten zu selektieren, zu verarbeiten und auszugeben.

    Abstract
    In diesem Kapitel werden Anwendungsgebiete und Ansätze für die semantische Beschreibung von Web Services behandelt. Bestehende Web Service Technologien leisten einen entscheidenden Beitrag zur Entwicklung verteilter Anwendungen dadurch, dass weithin akzeptierte Standards vorliegen, die die Kommunikation zwischen Anwendungen bestimmen und womit deren Kombination zu komplexeren Einheiten ermöglicht wird. Automatisierte Mechanismen zum Auffinden geeigneter Web Services und deren Komposition dagegen werden von bestehenden Technologien in vergleichsweise geringem Maß unterstützt. Ähnlich wie bei der Annotation statischer Daten im "Semantic Web" setzen Forschung und Industrie große Hoffnungen in die semantische Beschreibung von Web Services zur weitgehenden Automatisierung dieser Aufgaben.

    Produzenten bibliographischer Daten wie Bibliotheken, Verlage, Universitäten, Wissenschaftler oder soziale, webbasierte Literaturverwaltungsplattformen spielen eine wichtige Rolle bei der Entwicklung menschlichen Wissens. Damit ihre Arbeit der Gesellschaft in vollem Umfang zugutekommt, ist es zwingend erforderlich, bibliographische Daten zu öffnen, das heißt für alle zur beliebigen Nutzung frei verfügbar zu machen.

    "Bibliographische Daten Um den Geltungsbereich der Prinzipien festzulegen, wird in diesem ersten Teil der zugrundeliegende Begriff bibliographischer Daten erläutert. Kerndaten Bibliographische Daten bestehen aus bibliographischen Beschreibungen. Eine bibliographische Beschreibung beschreibt eine bibliographische Ressource (Artikel, Monographie etc. - ob gedruckt oder elektronisch) zum Zwecke 1. der Identifikation der beschriebenen Ressource, d.h. des Zeigens auf eine bestimmte Ressource in der Gesamtheit aller bibliographischer Ressourcen und 2. der Lokalisierung der beschriebenen Ressource, d.h. eines Hinweises, wo die beschriebene Ressource aufzufinden ist. Traditionellerweise erfüllte eine Beschreibung beide Zwecke gleichzeitig, indem sie Information lieferte über: Autor(en) und Herausgeber, Titel, Verlag, Veröffentlichungsdatum und -ort, Identifizierung des übergeordneten Werks (z.B. einer Zeitschrift), Seitenangaben. Im Web findet Identifikation statt mittels Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs) wie z.B. URNs oder DOIs. Lokalisierung wird ermöglicht durch HTTP-URIs, die auch als Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) bezeichnet werden. Alle URIs für bibliographische Ressourcen fallen folglich unter den engen Begriff bibliographischer Daten. Sekundäre Daten Eine bibliographische Beschreibung kann andere Informationen enthalten, die unter den Begriff bibliographischer Daten fallen, beispielsweise Nicht-Web-Identifikatoren (ISBN, LCCN, OCLC etc.), Angaben zum Urheberrechtsstatus, administrative Daten und mehr; diese Daten können von Bibliotheken, Verlagen, Wissenschaftlern, Online-Communities für Buchliebhaber, sozialen Literaturverwaltungssystemen und Anderen produziert sein. Darüber hinaus produzieren Bibliotheken und verwandte Institutionen kontrollierte Vokabulare zum Zwecke der bibliographischen Beschreibung wie z. B.     Abstract
    Das Semantic Web - bzw. Linked Data - hat das Potenzial, die Verfügbarkeit von Daten und Wissen, sowie den Zugriff darauf zu revolutionieren. Einen großen Beitrag dazu können Wissensorganisationssysteme wie Thesauri leisten, die die Daten inhaltlich erschließen und strukturieren. Leider sind immer noch viele dieser Systeme lediglich in Buchform oder in speziellen Anwendungen verfügbar. Wie also lassen sie sich für das Semantic Web nutzen? Das Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS) bietet eine Möglichkeit, die Wissensorganisationssysteme in eine Form zu "übersetzen", die im Web zitiert und mit anderen Resourcen verknüpft werden kann.

    Abstract
    Repositorien zählen mittlerweile zu den Standardanwendungen und -infrastrukturkomponenten im Bereich digitaler Bibliotheken und zielen mit ihrer durchgängigen Unterstützung des OAI-Protokolls seit jeher auf Interoperabilität, Austausch und Wiederverwendung ihrer Daten. In dem vorliegenden Artikel wird erläutert, warum das Protokoll in seiner bisherigen Form hierfür allerdings keine ausreichende Grundlage bietet. Demgegenüber bietet der Einsatz von Prinzipien und Techniken des Semantic Web die Aussicht, die Daten von Repositorien auf der Einzelebene nicht nur selbst besser wiederverwendbar und interoperabel mit anderen Repositorien zu publizieren, sondern durch die konsequente Verwendung von - teilweise bereits als Linked Open Data (LOD) vorliegenden - externen Daten in eine LOD-basierte Dateninfrastruktur zu integrieren. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird beschrieben, wie im Rahmen einer experimentellen Entwicklung die Metadaten eines großen Repositoriums für wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Literatur in ein Linked Dataset konvertiert wurden, und welche Folgearbeiten sich hieraus ergeben.

    Abstract
    Das Semantic Web und seine Auswirkungen auf Bibliotheken rücken immer mehr in den Fokus informationswissenschaftlicher Forschung. Dieser Artikel erläutert grundlegende funktionale wie technische Konzepte des Semantic Web, um darauf aufbauend in das Thema Library Linked Data einzuführen. Dafür werden einige kürzlich entstandene Projekte und Initiativen vorgestellt. Neben den Visionen und Zielen der jeweiligen Initiatoren, wie bessere Sichtbarkeit von bibliographischen Daten und Entwicklung neuer Applikationen, werden auch offene technische und rechtliche Fragestellungen bzw. Probleme kurzangerissen. In einem letzten Punkt werden mögliche praktische Linked Data-Anwendungsfalle für den österreichischen Kontext vorgestellt.

    Abstract
    Digitale Forschungsdaten sind eine unverzichtbare Grundlage moderner Wissenschaft. Mit ihnen sind aber eine Reihe von notwendigen Datenmanagement-Aufgaben verbunden, damit sie in der aktiven Forschung bestmöglich eingesetzt werden können und die gute wissenschaftliche Praxis eingehalten wird. Wie lange sollen die Daten aufbewahrt werden? Welche Kontextinformtionen müssen erfasst werden, um die Daten zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt noch sinnvol benutzen zu können? Wie viel kostet die Aufbewahrung? Dieses Buch kann diese Fragen nur aufwerfen, nicht beantworten. Denn ohne auf Details der jeweiligen Disziplin, Forschungsdaten und Projekte einzugehen, lassen sich diese Fragen nicht allegemeinverbindlich klären. Was dieses Buch jedoch mit einem Leitfaden und einer Checkliste bereitstellt, ist ein einfaches Instrument für fachwissenschatliche oder Infrastruktur-Einrichtungen, um die wichtigsten Aufgaben und Fragen im Forschungsdaten-Management strukturiert beantworten und effizient planen zu können.
