- Dem neuen Web mal auf die Finger geschaut -- Tom Alby hat sich bereits mit seinem Suchmaschinenoptimierung-Buch einen Namen gemacht und setzt dem Erfolg seines ersten Buches nun mit Web 2.0. Konzepte, Anwendungen, Technologien noch einen drauf. Wie schon bei der Optimierung für Suchmaschinen geht er auch bei seinem Blick auf das Phänomen Web 2.0 ganzheitlich und umfassend an die Arbeit: Ideen, Technik, Umsetzungen, Beispiele, Erfolge, Probleme, Ausblicke und Interviews mit den Machern. Ein Blitzlichtfoto im dunklen Web-Dschungel. Endlich geht es dem Web wieder gut. Alle freuen sich. Die Verlierer werden die Sieger sein. Jetzt wird alles anders. Das Blablabla in den Medien klingt ähnlich wie schon zu Zeiten des Web 1.0. Und doch ist es anders. Was sich geändert hat, zeigt sich jedoch meist erst auf den zweiten Blick -- Alby hat diese Einblicke zusammen getragen und zeigt den aktuellen Stand. Ohne Wortblasen, an Beispielen mit Hintergrund. Denn es geht Alby weniger um Technologie und Tools (diese werden aber auch behandelt, eben beispielhaft), sondern vor allem um Konzepte: Was will das Web 2.0 überhaupt und was macht seinen Erfolg aus? Das Buch ist einfach zu lesen, mit zahlreichen Illustrationen bebildert und listet eine Unmenge an online Quellen für eine weitere Vertiefung auf. Doch mit Büchern über das Web ist es genauso wie dem Web selbst: die Halbwertszeit ist sehr kurz. Das gilt insbesondere für die Technik und für mögliche Dienste. Alby hat diesen technischen Zweig der Web 2.0-Geschichte so umfangreich wie für das Verständnis nötig, aus Gründen der Aktualität aber so gering wie möglich ausfallen lassen. Und das ist gut so: dieses Buch können Sie getrost auch in drei Jahren in die Hand nehmen. Es wird zwar andere Dienste geben als im Buch angegeben, und manche Links werden vielleicht nicht mehr funktionieren, die Prinzipien des Web 2.0 bleiben aber dieselben. Sollten Sie sich geändert haben, dann haben wir schon Web 2.x oder gar Web 3.0. Aber das ist eine andere Geschichte, die uns vielleicht Tom Alby zur angemessenen Zeit weitergeben möchte. Ein Bonus, wie ich finde, sind die zahlreichen Interviews, die Tom Alby mit bekannten deutschen Web 2.0 Aushängeschildern geführt hat. Sie geben einen guten Einblick, welchen Stellenwert Web 2.0 in der Zwischenzeit gewonnen hat. Nicht nur in einer Nische von Web-Freaks, sondern in der Welt der Kommunikation. Und das sind wir."

- Abstract
- Mit sozialen Suchdiensten - wie z. B. Yahoo Clever, Lycos iQ oder Mister Wong - ist eine Ergänzung und teilweise sogar eine Konkurrenz zu den bisherigen Ansätzen in der Web-Suche entstanden. Während Google und Co. automatisch generierte Trefferlisten bieten, binden soziale Suchdienste die Anwender zu Generierung der Suchergebnisse in den Suchprozess ein. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird in diesem Buch der Frage nachgegangen, inwieweit soziale Suchdienste mit traditionellen Suchmaschinen konkurrieren oder diese qualitativ ergänzen können. Der vorliegende Band beleuchtet die hier aufgeworfene Fragestellung aus verschiedenen Perspektiven, um auf die Bedeutung von sozialen Suchdiensten zu schließen.

- Dem neuen Web mal auf die Finger geschaut -- Tom Alby hat sich bereits mit seinem Suchmaschinenoptimierung-Buch einen Namen gemacht und setzt dem Erfolg seines ersten Buches nun mit Web 2.0. Konzepte, Anwendungen, Technologien noch einen drauf. Wie schon bei der Optimierung für Suchmaschinen geht er auch bei seinem Blick auf das Phänomen Web 2.0 ganzheitlich und umfassend an die Arbeit: Ideen, Technik, Umsetzungen, Beispiele, Erfolge, Probleme, Ausblicke und Interviews mit den Machern. Ein Blitzlichtfoto im dunklen Web-Dschungel. Endlich geht es dem Web wieder gut. Alle freuen sich. Die Verlierer werden die Sieger sein. Jetzt wird alles anders. Das Blablabla in den Medien klingt ähnlich wie schon zu Zeiten des Web 1.0. Und doch ist es anders. Was sich geändert hat, zeigt sich jedoch meist erst auf den zweiten Blick -- Alby hat diese Einblicke zusammen getragen und zeigt den aktuellen Stand. Ohne Wortblasen, an Beispielen mit Hintergrund. Dazu gehören die einer breiten Nutzerschicht bekannten Anwendungen wie Blogs, RSS oder Wikis, wie auch die weniger bekannte Technologien und Entwicklungskonzepte, wie Ajax (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML), Ruby/ Ruby on Rails. In zehn Kapiteln führt Tom Alby in Konzepte, Anwendungen und Geschäftsmodelle des Web 2.0 ein. Neben technischen Aspekten geht er auch auf die soziologischen und psychologischen Aspekte ein, wenn er beispielsweise fragt "Was motiviert die Benutzer, sich in Social SoftwarePlattformen einzubringen?" (S. 108) Die Antwort leuchtet ein: "Zunächst einmal ist da die Erwartung der Benutzer, etwas für das Gegebene zurückzubekommen: Wer sein Profil mit vielen Informationen bestückt, der hat auch eine Chance, dass das Profil von anderen angesehen und eventuell Kontakt aufgenommen wird. Wer bei Wikipedia sein Wissen einbringt, der weiß auf der anderen Seite, dass er von den Beiträgen anderer profitieren kann. Dies kann auch zu einem wirklichen Gemeinschaftsgefühl führen (...) Auch ein gewisser Stolz, Teil dieser Gemeinschaft zu sein, mag dazu gehören." (S. 108.f) Tom Albys "Web 2.0" zeichnet sich auch durch die vielen Anwendungsbeispielen aus. Ergänzt werden diese durch fünf Interviews mit Praktikern wie Johnny Haeusler von Spreeblick.de oder Vasco Sommer-Nunes und Florian Wilken von blog.de. Ein umfangreiches Glossar und ein umfangreiches Stichwortverzeichnis erleichtern die Handhabbarkeit. Getreu dem" Join-in-Web" gibt es auch ein Blog (http://web20_buch.alby.de/) zum Buch, um mit dem Autor in Kontakt zu treten. Ein weiteres Plus ist die leichte Lesbarkeit, die es auch dem Nicht-Informatiker ermöglicht, die technischen Zusammenhänge zu verstehen. Wer mehr über Folksonomy, Ruby on Rails, Ajax oder Long Tail wissen möchte, dem sei Tom Albys "Web 2.0" sehr empfohlen. Dem IT-Profi wird "Web 2.0" nicht sehr viel Neues bieten, aber für Agenturen, Designer, Webentwickler, Studierende, Bibliothekarlnnen bietet dieses engagiert geschriebene Buch viel Nützliches."

- Abstract
- Die Erforschung und der Einsatz von Folksonomies und Social Tagging als nutzerzentrierte Formen der Inhaltserschließung und Wissensrepräsentation haben in den 10 Jahren ab ca. 2005 ihren Höhenpunkt erfahren. Motiviert wurde dies durch die Entwicklung und Verbreitung des Social Web und der wachsenden Nutzung von Social-Media-Plattformen (s. Kapitel E 8 Social Media und Social Web). Beides führte zu einem rasanten Anstieg der im oder über das World Wide Web auffindbaren Menge an potenzieller Information und generierte eine große Nachfrage nach skalierbaren Methoden der Inhaltserschließung.

- Abstract
- Das Internet und besonders das Web 2.0 sind ein Segen für die Meinungsfreiheit, so heißt es: Endlich können alle bestimmen, worüber diskutiert wird - nicht nur wenige Experten, Top-Journalisten und wortgewaltige Autoren, die das Meinungsmonopol für sich beanspruchen. Doch was haben wir uns da eingehandelt? Forumsbeiträge, die vor Dummheit und falschen Fakten strotzen, und an Idiotie kaum zu überbietende Videoclips bei YouTube. Es kommt noch schlimmer: - Politische Splitterparteien und verschrobene Wirrköpfe maskieren sich immer häufiger als harmlose Blogger, um demokratiefeindliche Hetzkampagnen zu verbreiten. Betroffene können sich kaum dagegen wehren. - Unternehmen betreiben auf subtile Weise "virales Marketing", um ihre Produkte von vermeintlich begeisterten Kunden empfehlen zu lassen. - Clevere Lobbyisten mischen sich unter falscher Identität in Diskussionen ein, um ihre fragwürdigen Interessen durchzusetzen. Wir befinden uns auf einem gefährlichen Irrweg, sagt Andrew Keen: Wo Halbwissen und blanke Lügen herrschen statt verlässlicher Information, da fehlt auch die Basis für vernünftige und tragfähige politische Entscheidungen, da ist unsere Kultur in ihren Grundfesten erschüttert. Ein scharf formuliertes Plädoyer gegen die absurden Auswüchse der großen Verdummungsmaschine, die sich Internet nennt.

Aber wie das so ist mit dem Müll: Für die einen ist es Abfall, andere suchen und finden meistens etwas, das sich zur Wiederverwer- tung eignet. Das muss Andrew Keen entgangen sein, obwohl der IT-Unternehmer (audiocafe.com), sich in der Materie auskennt. Aber das hindert ihn nicht, sich mit geradezu pietistischem Eifer wider den neu-bösen Feind zu wenden: den Blogger. Keen sieht im durch soziale Netzwerke und demokratische Teilhabe geprägten Web 2.0 nicht nur den "Kult des Amateurs" (so der Originaltitel, korrekt übersetzt), sondern sogar die "Vernichtung unserer Kultur". So richtig der eine oder andere Befund sein mag - etwa die Selbstbezüglichkeit vieler Slogger - er wird nicht richtiger durch penetrante Wiederholung. Falsch aber ist eine Behauptung wie die, dass Einträge bei Wikipedia (noch ein Lieblingsfeind Keens) nicht redigiert würden. Da hat sich einer in sein Bedürfnis nach werbewirksamer Polemik verrannt". - Abstract
- Das World Wide Web (im Folgenden kurz als Web bezeichnet) verwandelt sich seit einigen Jahren von einem Medium der passiven Konsumenten von Inhalten hin zu einem Netz für aktive User, die Weblogs schreiben, in Foren diskutieren oder Podcasts veröffentlichen. Diese User der zweiten Generation gebrauchen das Web zum Gedankenaustausch und knüpfen als Knoten in virtuellen sozialen Netzwerken Beziehungen zu Gleichgesinnten, mit denen sie sich zu virtuellen Communities formieren. Folglich definiert sich die soziale Komponente des Web 2.0 über ein verändertes Verhalten seiner User. Web-2.0-Plattformen sind jedoch vielmehr sozio-technische Artefakte und basieren auf speziellen Anwendungen und Technologien. Erst die technologische Komponente des Web 2.0 ermöglicht, dass die sozialen Prozesse der User unterstützt werden. Der folgende Grundlagenbeitrag stellt wesentliche Anwendungen und Technologien des Web 2.0 vor.
