    Hamburg, das Tor zur Welt, war in diesem Jahr Gastgeber für den 101. Deutschen Bibliothekartag. "Bibliotheken - Tore zur Welt des Wissens" lautete dementsprechend auch das Motto der Veranstaltung, die von 4730 Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmern vornehmlich aus Deutschland, aber auch aus vielen europäischen Nachbarstaaten sowie den USA besucht wurde. Rund 300 Vortragsveranstaltungen innerhalb von 10 Themenkreisen sowie etliche Arbeits- und Gremiensitzungen wurden vom 22. bis 25. Mai durchgeführt. Im Themenkreis "Neue Netze und Portale" war auch der "Treffpunkt Standardisierung" angesiedelt, den der Standardisierungsausschuss seit dem Jahr 2001, d.h. nunmehr zum elften Mal, angeboten hat und der unverändert sehr gut besucht war. Berndt Dugall, der Vorsitzende des Standardisierungsausschusses, führte durch den Vormittag und rief einleitend den Zuhörerinnen und Zuhörern die Anfänge dieser Veranstaltungsreihe beim Bibliothekartag in Bielefeld ins Gedächtnis.

    Abstract
    Die deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft hat auf Vorschlag des Unterausschusses "Kulturelle Überlieferung" des Bibliotheksausschusses der DFG am 5. Mai 2004 in der Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Sachsen-Anhalt in Halle (Saale) ein Rundgespräch zum Thema "Verzeichnis der im deutschen Sprachraum erschienenen Drucke des 18. Jahrhunderts" veranstaltet. An dem Gespräch nahmen ca. 30 einschlägige Vertreter/innen der Wissenschaft und Vertreterinnen aus Bibliotheken teil, die über umfangreiche Sammlungen an Literatur des 18. Jahrhunderts verfügen und damit ein potentielles Interesse an einer vertieften Erschließung der Literatur dieses Zeitraums haben. Nachfolgend abgedruckt ist das Ergebnisprotokoll der Abschlussdiskussion des Rundgesprächs. Die Vorträge, das Protokoll und zwei ergänzende Beiträge zu der Thematik werden in einem separaten Tagungsband veröffentlicht, der im November unter folgendem Titel erscheint: VD 18: Verzeichnis der im deutschen Sprachraum erschienenen Drucke des 18.     Abstract
    Der Grund für die Einführung der DDC war die Umstellung auf Freihand durch den damals bevorstehenden Umbau und Ausbau der Bibliothek. Durch die Errichtung von 3 Tiefgeschoßen war es möglich, das gesamte oberirdische Magazin für das Publikum zu öffnen, wodurch die Publikumsflächen von vorher weniger als 200 m**2 auf nun 2200 m**2 ausgeweitet werden konnten. Zur Ausgangssituation: Wir hatten damals eine Freihand-Bibliothek im Umfang von einigen tausend Nachschlagewerken im Lesesaal, die wir einige Jahre zuvor - nach einem Umbau des Lesesaals - grob nach der 3-stelligen DDC aufgestellt hatten. Aber im Grunde genommen war das Thema Freihand für uns vollkommenes Neuland.
