    Abstract
Broadsides and other single-sheet publications are important primary sources for the study of cultural, economic, political and social history that are only now being accorded the attention they deserve by historians and special collections librarians. Describes the cataloguing practices of the American Antiquarian Society in relation to these materials, and presents a consideration by MARC fields of the specifics for cataloguing 19th-century single-sheet publications

    Abstract
This presentation discusses the diversity of serials librarianship and argues that cataloging is a necessary foundation for all aspects of serials work. Library school education for serials librarians should provide a solid foundation in the basics and pave the way for career long continuing education both on-the-job and through more formal mechanisms.

    Abstract
Cataloguers should replace current notions of fixed standards with the concept of a floating standard for various aspects of bibliographic control. Currently they are trying to subscribe simultaneously to diverging norms of cataloguing and bibliographic control, working in 2 ways at once and serving opposite visions with the same output. Explains how this situation has come about and offers the possible solution of a floating bibliographic standard

    Abstract
Presents a view on the work of the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records Study Group on behalf of the Anglo-American cataloguing tradition. The study is examining the fundamental aspects of record design using the entity-attribute-relationship model to link data elements to the function that a user can perform while accessing a bibliographic record. The data and functions are being linked by UNIMARC fields

    Abstract
Cataloguing is the formal process by which books are encoded for later access, influenced by the technology employed, and the professional culture aurrounding the event. There are problems with this approach in that it conventionalizes the contents of books into only aspects that have been previously defined and categorized. Library access tools may need to be modified to draw a balance between user friendliness and catalogue integrity

    Abstract
Examines the positive and neegative aspects of outsourcing as allied to cataloguing, defined as the transfer of cataloguing procedures, for new titles, retrospective conversion, reclassification and acquisitions to commercial groups outside the library. Draws on practical experiences documented and reported in the literature, including the retrospective conversion projects undertaken at Nevada University at Reno

    Abstract
At the core of cataloguing Internet resources are the cataloguing values of description and access. Shows how cataloguing Internet resources can be folded into the duties of a cataloguing department. Reviews practical aspects of their cataloguing. Covers: obtaining support from library's administration for initiating the activity, outlining responsibilities, training and workflow issues, guides to cataloguing, initial steps and choices, creating the bibliographic description, choosing access points, subject analysis and classification, and electronic location and access

    Abstract
Examination of selected rules of the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, Second Edition, 1988 revision, (AACR2) shows that the rules are oriented towards a paper-based catalog and are, at least to some extent, not suitable for a computer environment. Thorough examination of the objectives and principles of all aspects of cataloging in the computer age is suggested, followed by subsequent development of a new type of "enhanced" code which takes advantage of considerable work done by many ALA and other units in the area of computer-aided retrieval. This code should deal with traditional catalog code questions as well a subject retrieval, catalog design, and computer capabilities. Specific suggestions are made for each section of the proposed code.
