- Abstract
- RDA has always been a continually evolving standard that aims to reflect the requirements of the cataloguing community. Simon Edwards will highlight the steps towards a further internationalisation and exploration of wider cultural heritage description communities. Gordon Dunsire will point out the potential implementations of RDA data in various database structures and describes the possibilities for further work with RDA and linked data scenarios in international communities. The third part of the article reflects the experience of the British Library in applying RDA in the last years. Alan Danskin gives an overview of the transition period from the project organization until training.

- Abstract
- The article aims to provide an update on the 2009 Statement of International Cataloguing Principles (ICP) and on the status of work on the Statement by the IFLA Cataloguing Section. The article begins with a summary of the drafting process of the ICP by the IME ICC, International Meeting of Experts on an International Cataloguing Code, focusing in particular on the first meeting (IME ICC1) and on the earlier drafts of the 2009 Statement. It then analyzes both the major innovations and the unsatisfactory aspects of the ICP. Finally, it explains and comments on the recent documents by the IFLA Cataloguing Section relating to the ICP, which express their intention to revise the Statement and to verify the convenience of drawing up an international cataloguing code. The latter intention is considered in detail and criticized by the author in the light of the recent publication of the RDA, Resource Description and Access. The article is complemented by an updated bibliography on the ICP.

- Abstract
- Rare materials catalogers have always been engaged in the development of rules for descriptive cataloging. In addition to the contributions made toward rules for mainstream cataloging, the rare materials community has developed a series of manuals called Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials. The fundamental principles underlying these manuals are shared with the international community and its efforts to create a common rare materials cataloging code. With the adoption of Resource Description and Access as an international standard for descriptive cataloging, the time has to come to reevaluate the potential to work toward developing common rare materials cataloging rules.

- Abstract
- This article describes the project to build the initial International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI) database by deploying the techniques used to develop the Virtual International Authority File (VIAF). It focuses particularly on the work of the OCLC team in transforming the VIAF "resource file" model of matched data into a robust, operational, and authoritative file of uniquely assigned ISNIs as a base for an ongoing ISNI assignment system, and on the quality assurance validation of the database provided by the British Library and the Bibliothèque nationale de France. The need for future interaction between ongoing ISNI assignment and name authority control in libraries is also explored.

- Abstract
- What follows are my memories of the events, starting almost five decades ago, that led to the International Standard for Bibliographic Description (ISBD)-still the most successful and widely used international cataloging standard in history. Many of the documents of the time were little more than ephemera (working papers and the like) and some are not now available to me. I have checked my recollections in all the documents to which I have access and apologize in advance for any errors of time or place. I also apologize for the, alas, unavoidable, given the nature of the essay, many repetitions of the words "I" and "me."

- Abstract
- In diesem Artikel wird die Frage aufgegriffen, welche Auswirkungen der Kerndatensatz Forschung (KDSF) auf die aktuelle bibliothekarische Praxis haben kann. Dabei wird eine Bestandsaufnahme der (möglichen) Betätigungsfelder von Bibliotheken rund um den KDSF und die Einführung von Forschungsinformationssystemen (FIS) gezogen. Es sollen die Herausforderungen und das Potenzial des KDSF für die tägliche bibliothekarische Praxis im Rahmen einer modernen und integrierten Forschungsberichterstattung beleuchtet und Impulse für in der Zukunft erforderliche Anpassungsprozesse gegeben werden. Der Artikel stellt Aufbau und Konzept des KDSF vor. Der Fokus liegt dabei auf dem Kerndatensatz-Bereich "Publikationen". Bisherige Erfahrungen und Rückmeldungen an den "Helpdesk für die Einführung des Kerndatensatz Forschung" werden aus bibliothekarischer Sicht erörtert. Ein weiterer Teil zeigt beispielhafte Aktivitäten und Herangehensweisen, die sich für Bibliotheken im Umfeld der Einführung von FIS ergeben.
