    Abstract
False imprint information and other deceptive publication details present problems for catalogers. In this article, I describe different types of misleading information, including fictitions names of publishers, incorrect places of publication, and false dates; mention possible reasons for deception, including fear of prosecution, and emphasize the need for catalogers to be suspicious when handling certain types of material. Erotic printed materials and bootleg sound recordings are discussed in detail, and examples of misleading information in each medium and explanations of how cataloging rules address or fail to address specific circumstances are included. Catalogers need to be aware of both the potential problems associated with certain types of materials and the types of reference sources to consult when dealing with those materials.

    Abstract
To determine the feasibility of our library providing full cataloging for textbooks using OCLC, I conducted a study of records in the OCLC data base and performed a literature search on the topic. I found that a preponderance of duplicate OCLC records and a lack of uniformity in cataloging practices would make this a costly proposition. It would also make it difficult to train a paraprofessional to select catalog records and to handle the cataloging of these materials. This paper suggests standards to be considered by the appropriate ALA committees in order to alleviate the duplication of records and to make textbook cataloging easier.

    Abstract
This paper describes an empirical project designed to examine the following questions: (i) what constitutes the concept of "map author," and (ii) of the responsibility functions appearing in a sample of 178 maps under consideration, which responsibility functions participate significantly in the process of map-making? This study, exploratory in nature, considered single-sheet maps produced by three U.S. publishers after 1981 as found in the OCLC online database, retrieved, and examined by the investigator.

    Abstract
This paper introduces the two concepts of Content and Coding which together define Metadata. The encoding scheme used to hold the data content is referred to as a shell. One such shell is the MARC format. In this paper I describe the MARC format and its application to Internet resources, primarily through the OCLC-sponsored Intercat Project

    Abstract
While Part I of this essay focused on the history, development, and conceptual foundations of the cataloger's workstation, Part II will look at the technical details in its configuration. Minimum hardware specifications are given, and the ensemble of software running under Microsoft Windows is described. This includes the LAN, the Internet and the use of Trumpet 'Winsock' compliant software, electronic documentation (including a description of the Library of Congress's Cataloger's Desktop), and the use of e-mail clients. The essay hopes to demonstrate that the highly-integrated nature of this software running under Windows will lead to a significant enhancement of computing resources in cataloging departments.

    Abstract
Educators and practitioners usually have very different views on what should be included in cataloging courses. The educators believe that a good theoretical foundation in bibliographic control and subject analysis will prepare graduates to work as catalog librarians. The practitioners usually believe that the person who completes a cataloging class in library school is qualified to begin a training program. I have been asked to present my views on education for cataloging from the perspective of a practicing cataloger who spends a portion of her time as a library science educator devoted to teaching cataloging.
