    Abstract
The rapid evolution of hypermedia technology makes it possible to access an immense volume of information in an educational setting. This research examines the relationship between individual differences (in particular, cognitive styles) and navigation strategies using a WWW-based hyper-media learning system. The hypermedia learning system was used at Sheffield University's Department of Information Studies. 20 Master students were pre-tested for their cognitive styles. Dependent variables included navigation patterns, selection of navigation tools, and reactions to the hypermedia system. the results indicated that students with differing cognitive styles and individual characteristics selected different access facilities and applied different navigation patterns. The implication of these findings and the role of individual differences in designing hypermedia-based learning systems are discussed

    Abstract
Proposes a theoretical framework for organizing information and activities in educational hypermedia systems. Focuses on the content that can be represented within a physical media, rather than the physical media itself. Proposes a theory of cognitive media types based on the inferential and learning processes of human users. Presents an implemented computer system, called AlgoNet, that supports hypermedia information access and constructive learning activities for self paced learning in computer and engineering disciplines

    Abstract
Presents a model of hypermedia that allows the combination of 'hyperstructured' information with dynamic multimedia information. The model is derived by extending the Dexter hypertext reference model and the Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica Multimedia Interchange Format (CMIF) multimedia model. Explains how the CMIF multimedia model builds on the model provided by Dexter. The Amsterdam hypermedia model enables the description of structured multimedia documents, incorporating time at a fundamental level and extending the hypertext notion of links to time-based media and compositions of different media

    Abstract
Discusses the concepts of multimedia and hypermedia. Introduces 2 additional multimedia types; computational and directive. These depend on direct interaction with the end user and increase the use of computing facilities within hypermedia presentations. The recognition of interactive media types provide fertile ground for new classes of hypermedia link types. Offers examples from prototype hypermedia systems for maths education and electronic news delivery to illustrate the application of these additional media types

    Abstract
The subject of this book is the relationship between people and interactive media. Written by one of the world's leading experts on this subject, this book explores how hypermedia, groupware, and networks change the way in which people, gropus and organizations work and interact. Its wide-ranging focus discusses the emergence of new technologies and demonstrates by considering real-life case studies the impact each has had on the way we view and interact with colleagues and information. With its emphasis on actual examples of usage, the author provides both practitioners and students with a fascinating glimpse of the future of these media and their applications.

    Abstract
Hypertext for multi-media and full-text documents is rapidly developed on all fronts. For bibliographic information retrieval the applications are promising but pose several difficulties. Describes work conducted at the School of Library and Information Science at Univ. of Western Ontario the objective of which is to add the capability of a browsing search to an existing OPAC through the use of Windowed Hypertext Interface for Zippy Retrieval and Display (WHIZRD) software. Discusses the underlying retrieval capabilities of the system. Examines design problems and solutions and outlines future enhancements

    Abstract
The concepts of hypertext, multimedia and hypermedia are often confused, but can defined thus: hypertext is text with links, multimedia is synchronized media, and hypermedia is multimedia with links. Presents descriptions of systems for hypertext, multimedia and hypermedia. The computer storage and processing requirements for multimedia are orders of magnitudes greater than those for hypertext. Nevertheless, the hypertext model can be extended to deal with hypermedia by including multimedia synchronization capabilities. Information technology and its associated terminology should help people effectively compare experiences and thus have more influence on future developments

    Abstract
Outlines and reviews basic theoretical assumptions of research on learning with hypertext and hypermedia. Focuses on whether the results of research on hypertext / hypermedia-based learning support these assumptions. Results of empirical studies as well as a theoretical analysis reveal that many research approaches have been misled by inappropriate theoretical assumptions on the potential of structural and functional features of hypertext / hypermedia to support learning. Discusses theoretical shortcomings and outlines future research
