    Abstract
    Argues for the inclusion of hypermedia systems among the basic components of computer environments. Reviews hypermedia principles and the terminolgy used and gives examples of several applications in which hypermedia already are or couls advantageously be used. Most computer applications would greatly benefit if hypermedia were extended from isolated applications to a system-wide facility and this could substantially simplify implementation of new applications. Extending hypermedia concepts to the organisation of the computer environment itself - the file system - and to the user interface would make computer environments more flexible and easier to use

    Abstract
    Describes an SGL relational database schema for representing the objects in HyperCard, along with a technique for automatically populating this schema from a HyperCard stack using the facilities in HyperTalk with calls to the database manager. The stabndard relational database query language SQL can then be used to perform more general hypertext searches than are possible with the string search feature found in most hypertext browsing environments. These techniques, although demonstrated specially usinf HyperCard and Oracle for Macintosh, are generally applicable to a wide range of hypertext systems and relational databases

    Abstract
    The paper considers some of the problems of negotiation for development in the specific context of formal meetings, where protocol may act as an agent of opacity rather than transparency. The autor suggests that briefing based on hypertext (deep briefing) might improve the quality of meetings and thus of effective action. Two primary features of this technology, easy cross-linking across a wide range of material and the ability to follow a trail of links through material allow users to check the sources of documents rapidly and accurately and to audit the contribution of human representatives at meetings.     Abstract
    It is accepted wisdom that documents should be represented in terms of their logical structure rather than their appearance. Nevertheless most of the popular document processing systems concentrate on appearance rather than structure, mainly because most users opt for a user interface that is interactive, simple and direct. Considers issues related to fonts and other appearance attributes within hypertext documents. Presents the relevant differences between hypertext systems and document preparation systems whose end product is paper Describes schemes for representing appearance through logical structure. The scheme aims to meet the extra needs of hypertext systems, and yet still to be simple enough to attract wide usage.

    Abstract
    Hypertext users often experience the so called 'lost in hyperspace' problem: where users experience disorientation stemming from too many jumps in the course of browsing through large databases. Proposes a filtering algorithm which is suitable for a wide spectrum of implementations and which restricts the amount of information available to the user; thus allowing improved hypertext browsing. An algorithm calculates the set of most relevant hypertext nodes for the user, utilizing the user profile and data clustering technique. The result is an optimal cluster of relevant data items, custom-tailored for each user's needs

    Abstract
    The article presents a conceptual framework for distinguishing different sorts of heterogeneous digital materials. The hypothesis is that a wide range of heterogeneous data resources can be characterized and classified due to their particular configurations of hypertext features such as scripts, links, interactive processes, and time scalings, and that the hypertext configuration is a major but not sole source of the messiness of big data. The notion of hypertext will be revalidated, placed at the center of the interpretation of networked digital media, and used in the analysis of the fast-growing amounts of heterogeneous digital collections, assemblages, and corpora. The introduction summarizes the wider background of a fast-changing data landscape.

    Abstract
    Concept mapping has a history of use in many disciplines as a formal or semi formal diagramming technique. Concept maps have an abstract structure as type hypergraphs, and computer support for concept mapping can associate visual attributes with node types to provide an attractive and consistent appearance. Computer support can also provide interactive interfaces allowing arbitrary actions to be associated with nodes such as hypermedia links to other maps and documents. Describes a general concept mapping system that is open architecture for integration with other systems, scriptable to support arbitrary interactions and computations, and customizable to emulate many styles of map. The system supports collaborative development of concept maps across local area and wide area networks, and integrates with WWW in both client helper and server gateway roles. A number of applications are illustrated ranging through education, artificial intelligence, active documents, hypermedia indexing and concurrent engeneering. Concept maps should be regarded as basic components of any hypermedia system, complementing text and images with formal and semi-formal active diagrams

    Abstract
    The Multimedia Information Presentation System (MIPS) will allow end users to browse multimedia information presented in a user friendly and consistent manner. In its most powerful configuration, it will allow the end user to formulate queires which are interpreted, analyzed, and dispatched by the system to heterogeneous distributed external data sources, and to view a coherent and customized presentation of the data retrieved as answers. Data are stored in, or referenced from, a set of hyperdocuments conforming to the ISO standards HyTime and SGML. The hyperdocuments constitute an information web which may be dynamically expanded to accomodate retrieved data. The web navigation structure, structure of information nodes, specification of presentation mechanisms, specification of presentation tools, and data are separable and potentially reusable for different applications, different activities within an application, or different environments. Outlines the intended functionality and the design of MIPS, with particular reference to the structure and function of the hypermedia web and the role of the knowledge base system module in its dynamic expansion

    Abstract
    Interactive dynamic maps (IDMs) help users interactively explore webs of hypermedia documents. IDMs provide automatically generated abstract graphical views at different levels of granularity. Visual cues give users a better understanding of the content of the web, which results in better navigation control and more accurate and effective expressions of queries. IDMs consist of: topic maps, which provide visual abstractions of the semantic content of a web documents and document maps, which provide visual abstractions of subsets of documents. The major contribution of this work include: automatique techniques for building maps directly from a web of documents, including extraction of semantic content and use of a spatial metaphor for generating layout and filing space, a direct manipulation interaction paradigm for exploring webs of documents, using maps and an integrated graphical query language, and the ability to use the maps themselves as documents that can be customized, stored in a library and shared among users
