    Abstract
Hypertext uses a browsing rather than a searching strategy. Hypertext systems have found applications in a number of areas. They give users choice of information but this can prove a drawback. Examnines the effectiveness of hypertext as a way of retrieving information and reviews conventional information retrieval techniques. Considers previous attempts at combining information retrieval and hypertext and outlines a prototype systems developed to generate guided tours for users to direct them through hypertext to information they have requested. Discusses how adding this kind of itelligent guidance to a hypertext system would affect its usability as an information system

    Abstract
Introduces a concept for measuring the quantity of information an an organized system. The information content of an organizes information system can be measured on the basis of the information units present in the system and the way the information is structured. A unit of information can be defined as 'any idea or data present with all its parameters necessary and sufficient to comprehend it'. A term INFON is coined to denote the unit of information. This concept of an organized information system can be extended to a technical document to measure the quantity of technical information in the document

    Abstract
Information is displacing knowledge as the principle theoretical focus of library and information science. A growing concensus regarding the disciplinary meaning of information, however is sustained at a more fundamental level by a specific conception of knowledge. Analyses a variety of conceptions of knowledge and its relations to information in anattempt to contextualizes the conception underlying the widely held interpretation of information. Recommends the restoration of knowledge as a fundamental study for information professionals

    Abstract
Faced with a potentially vast amount of information, how is one to decide what is worth searching and when a piece of information is valuable? With small quantities of information semantic concepts are useful: the relevance and significance of a piece of information can be assessed easily. But with lanrge quantities non semantic clues are needed; and ones which require less rich (and therefore easier to scan) information. Deduces quantitative (rate, flow) and qualitative (value) attributes of information from topological measures of organizational information channels

    Abstract
A lack of structure, not the amount, is the reason for our growing inability to cope with information today. Through the advances in information technology, information has lost the connection with its carrier; therefore, the medium can no longer be used as a reliable indicator of information type. The classical methods of information handling are not sufficient for the growing amount and the new forms of information. In an information society, the individual needs a more comprehensive system of information management. The suggestion is to use 4 universal structuring dimensions - selection, time, hierarchy and sequence - and to apply them to information, regardless of the information carrier. Information producers, as well as information consumers, can use this tool-set to profit more fully from the growing mass of information

    Abstract
The concept of information is modified and enhanced to include the principles of systems science. These imply a move towards a greater degree of abstraction and globalization. Information is studies in its various useful, physical, metaphysical and ontogenetic forms, according to systems theories. The properties and connotation of information from the different viewpoints of an individual's development and daily routine are also considered. 'Informationism' is proposed as a new epistemological theory, and compared with various of the recent theories of information. Emphasizes that information has to be reconsidered both as a phenomenon and a process

    Abstract
Discusses information as a basic and absolutely essential commodity for any meaningful decision making. Proposes a taxonomy of information, based on its source of origin, inclusing somatic, genetic, terranean and animatic information. Emphasises that information, whatever its source or origin, has to be carefully selected, appropriately stored and made easily available at the right time, to any individual or group who may require it. Suggests the library of today appears to be the most logical depository of information, for which a new 'information literacy' must be developed
