    Abstract

    Abstract
The emergence of information portal systems in the past few years has led to a greatly enhanced Web-based environment for users seeking information online. While considerable research has been conducted an user information-seeking behavior in regular IR environments over the past decade, this paper focuses specifically an how users in a medical science and clinical setting carry out their daily information seeking through a customizable information portal system (MyWelch). We describe our initial study an analyzing Web usage data from MyWelch to see whether the results conform to the features and patterns established in current information-seeking models, present several observations regarding user information-seeking behavior in a portal environment, outline possible long-term user information-seeking patterns based an usage data, and discuss the direction of future research an user information-seeking behavior in the MyWelch portal environment.

    Abstract
Considers the opportunities of growing online information resources for information intensive business such as travel and tourism, and the challenges that they pose for traditional suppliers such as National Tourist Offices. Examines the current usage of information technology by the travel and tourism industry, and issues arising for publishers and National Toursm Organisations, as well as examples of current international activity. Customer requirements for information as well as constraints on the commercial development of tourism information services are highlighted. Describes and evaluates recent initiatives using online services in this area in the context of effective customer service and commercial viability

    Abstract
Examines gender differences in communication patterns within a single, large, professional services firm. Considers 9 specific sources of information, in 3 broad categories (interpersonal, official company publications, informal). Data was collected in a single, large, professional services company by means of a questionnaire survey. Respondents indicated how much information they received, their preference for information, and the value of information received from each source. Results indicated few gender differences at the highest organizational levels (partners, managers) but considerable gender differences at lower organizational levels (professional field staff, secretarial and support staff). Women at lower organizational levels had greater preference for information from all 3 sources and received more information from official company publications and informal sources
