    Abstract
Internet based electronic resources are growing dramatically but there have been no empirical studies evaluating the impact of e-sources, as a whole, on formal scholarly communication. reports results of an investigation into how much e-sources have been used in formal scholarly communication, using a case study in the area of Library and Information Science (LIS) during the period 1994 to 1996. 4 citation based indicators were used in the study of the impact measurement. Concludes that, compared with the impact of print sources, the impact of e-sources on formal scholarly communication in LIS is small, as measured by e-sources cited, and does not increase significantly by year even though there is observable growth of these impact across the years. It is found that periodical format is related to the rate of citing e-sources, articles are more likely to cite e-sources than are print priodical articles. However, once authors cite electronic resource, there is no significant difference in the number of references per article by periodical format or by year. Suggests that, at this stage, citing e-sources may depend on authors rather than the periodical format in which authors choose to publish

    Abstract
The paper discusses the process of development of the Internet in Poland and formation of the community of Internet users. A short case study of the conflict between Internet users and providers shows the potential role of the Internet in mobilizing public opinion

    Abstract
Some web sites "work" and some don't. Good web site consultants know that you can't just jump in and start writing HTML, the same way you can't build a house by just pouring a foundation and putting up some walls. You need to know who will be using the site, and what they'll be using it for. You need some idea of what you'd like to draw their attention to during their visit. Overall, you need a strong, cohesive vision for the site that makes it both distinctive and usable. Information Architecture for the World Wide Web is about applying the principles of architecture and library science to web site design. Each web site is like a public building, available for tourists and regulars alike to breeze through at their leisure. The job of the architect is to set up the framework for the site to make it comfortable and inviting for people to visit, relax in, and perhaps even return to someday. Most books on web development concentrate either on the aesthetics or the mechanics of the site. This book is about the framework that holds the two together. With this book, you learn how to design web sites and intranets that support growth, management, and ease of use. Special attention is given to: * The process behind architecting a large, complex site * Web site hierarchy design and organization Information Architecture for the World Wide Web is for webmasters, designers, and anyone else involved in building a web site. It's for novice web designers who, from the start, want to avoid the traps that result in poorly designed sites. It's for experienced web designers who have already created sites but realize that something "is missing" from their sites and want to improve them. It's for programmers and administrators who are comfortable with HTML, CGI, and Java but want to understand how to organize their web pages into a cohesive site. The authors are two of the principals of Argus Associates, a web consulting firm. At Argus, they have created information architectures for web sites and intranets of some of the largest companies in the United States, including Chrysler Corporation, Barron's, and Dow Chemical.

    Abstract

    Abstract
Describes 'The Global Library' exhibition mounted by the New York Public Library, part of which deals with the Internet, focusing on its practicalities of access and use, particularly in library and school settings, as well as associated issues of policy and public concern. One section of the exhibition draws on the NYPL's extensive collections of rare books and other media to examine the idea of the Internet as merely the latest way of preserving the collective memory of humanity, which is the rationale of all libraries and information centres

    Abstract
The Internet is a compelling force shaping the future of the library. It is changing the way librarians perform their jobs, and is adding tremendous value to library services and resources. And perhaps most importantly, it is transforming the way the library provides access to its store-house of information and knowledge. Ultimately, the Internet may prove to be an essential component in the library of the future - the library without walls. As conceived in library literature, the library without waals (also called the virtual library, the cybrary, or the global electronic library) provides ubiquitous access to the world's knowledge. Its services and collections are not constrained by the physical walls of a single building. Rather, they represent the collective resources of all libraries and information providers, seamlessly integrated into a user-oriented whole
