    Abstract
Describes chain indexing in LISA and the modifications to the technique made necessary by a practical working situation. The method was adopted on a "Keep it simple and stupid" basis. However, some permutations and a number of qualifying words have been introduced in order to make entries more understandable. Other difficulties have emerged because the subject field of LISA is connected so closely with social institutions and human relationships. There is also the problem of certain foreign language terms which are virtually meaningless when translated into English. A retrieval test carried out by E.M. Keen had a useful by-product in showing that the layout of the LISA indexes could be improved and the use of bold lead terms is now under consideration

    Abstract
Few librarians and documentalists realise that the same term may have different meanings even within the same subject field in the context of different schools of thought, cultures, etc. By making explicit the concepts that authors are using - based on their explicit definitions, rather than just inferring meanings from the way they use key-words - it would become possible to determine which of the several concepts a term refers to is used in a given case. The INTERCONCEPT project, launched by UNESCO in 1977 is intended to demonstrate, among other that the solution to this problem could be facilitated by using a conceptual data bank, both in indexing and classification and also in information retrieval. It should be noted that this is only one of the aims of the INTERCONCEPT project, the final aim bing to promote international understandingby conceptual control and analysis in the field of social sciences

    Abstract
Any classification describes some structure of taxons on a subject field. Thus, one of the natural aspects of a classification theory is the study of possible taxon structure types. In particular, two classifications generating isomorphic taxon structures (regardless of size or how filled they are) could quite rightly be said to be of the same type. Let us formulate this situation in precise terms. Assume M is the subject field of the classification (the class of all objects to be classified). We use T to denote the set of taxon subclasses identified by the classificational features. On taxon set T the is a natural order of inclusion
