    Abstract
Pro-Cite is a high quality bibliography formatting software program designed for the efficient management of a text data file. The program can sort the lists of bibliographical references provided by abstracts and keywords in variable length fields, prepare selected lists classified in different ways so that writing is needed once only, and provide a variety of output formats. Describes Pro-Cite database organization, editing procedures, the authority file, reformatting and input, the inverted file quick search field, sorting, and output. Summarizes the pros and cons of the system

    Abstract
Presents a rebuttal of criticisms of the Italian version of Dewey's 20th ed., which in the section relating to the geography of Italy was alleged to have expanded and updated Auxiliary Table 2 by using classification methods that resulted in errors in the location of some of the country's 8.000 communes (Bibliotecario 38(1993), 147-148). The debate focuses on aspects such as the numbering system of classification, the use of subdivisions, whether or not to list all communes, and the absence in Italy of an intermediate entity between province and commune

    Abstract
EasyWeb is an Italian amde research program for library/archive users that allows simple access to Internet catalogue data via the WWW. The software is based on CDS/ISOIS and is currently available on the UNIX operating system with Intel 486 and Pentium processors. EasyWeb has been tested on the following operating systems: Olivetti, Sco, Novell UnixWare, Linux 1.2.13, Slackware with iBCS2; and in the new 1996 version will be installed on all other UNIX platforms (Solaris, HP, etc.). Names Italian academic bodies with EasyWeb installations and provides an Internet address

    Abstract
Looks at current research into the cognitve aspects of information search and retrieval by library users. Illustrates the theoretical approach to indexing procedures, developed from a cognitive viewpoint, and outlines the basics of cognitive epistemology. Discusses the work of psychologist W. Kintsch and linguist T.A. van Dijk on the mechanics of information acquisition, text comprehension and text production. Analyses the linguistic theory of meaning, and summarises the main criticisms of the cognitive approach, as propounded by B. Frohmann, B.C. Brookes, R.L. Derr and D. Rudd, among others

    Abstract
Reports an empirical study at the Queriniana Civic Library, Brescia, of interaction betwee researchers and printed catalogues during bibliographic data retrieval. The study sought to ascertain frequency of catalogue use; research success rate and time taken; and to identify user profiles. Data were obtained by a mixture of questionnaires, interviews and direct observation. Findings showed that 64% of the catalogue users were female; 70% were aged 19-30; 65% were university students or had good school grades; and hardly any were working class. University students preferred keyword access. 50% or all searches were successful. Most search failures related to subject catalogues, which usually required more time. Provides statistics on time spent in research

    Abstract
Nuovo soggettario, edited by the National Central Library of Florence and published in 2007, is a subject indexing system renewing the existing »Soggettario per i cataloghi delle biblioteche italiane« (1956). The new language has been created according to rules and standards internationally recognized and is made up of various components, of which the multidisciplinary Thesaurus is the central one. This paper describes the facet analysis method adopted in developing the Thesaurus, (the terms of which derive mainly from the daily indexing work of the Italian National Bibliography) and how this has been applied to the semantic structure for legal terms. Details are also given concerning problems deriving from the overlapping of facets and how these are being resolved.
