    Abstract
    This paper presents the situation of library education in Peru during the last decades of the 20th Century, particularly dealing with education in the area of cataloging and bibliographic control. Both an historical view and the current situation are explained to give a general panorama of education in the areas of cataloging, classification, organization of electronic materials, cataloging networks, and the like. Also a short panorama of the near future is given. At the same time not only professional education is presented, but also non professional, continuing and on the job education in library and information science (LIS) in Peru.

    Abstract
    This paper provides an overview of the current status of cataloging and classification (C&C) education in Japan and looks forward to the development in the near future. First, the current status of library and information science (LIS) education and its major issues are briefly reviewed. Second, the situation of C&C practice in Japanese libraries is briefly reviewed, since it affects C&C education. Third, the present situation and issues in C&C education are examined and described under two categories: education in LIS schools and education in LIS programs offered by other colleges and universities. Finally, on-the-job training and continuing education in the C&C domain are discussed.

    Abstract
    This article describes the education system for librarians and information professionals in Poland and includes a discussion of change agents. The international bibliographic standardization has brought considerable change to this education. Another change factor has been Poland's openess to broader international connections as a result of the country's political and social transformation beginning in 1989. Technological development (computer system applications in libraries and references services) is a third key factor for change in Polish library education. Additionally, the article includes a survey of recent events and the most important institutions. The quality of teaching is examined and suggestions made for future changes.

    Abstract
    The main objective of this paper is to provide an overview about education for cataloguing and classification in Mexico. Mexican Library and Information Science (LIS) schools have traditionally been featured by a strong emphasis in cataloging and classification learning, which continues being an important part of their curricula. Additionally, like in other countries, education for cataloging and classification in México has been influenced by the changes that libraries and Library Science have experienced from new technological developments. General trends in education for cataloging and classification in Mexico are seen by comparing the different Mexican LIS schools and their program curricula.

    Abstract
    The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system is a logical approach to a hierarchical categorization of recorded knowledge that makes sense to many people. It both illustrates classification theory and provides a practical way to organize information. It is taught in several different settings with content relying upon the purpose of the education or training. With reference to communications from colleagues, the author identifies some problems in teaching DDC, followed by some of the content covered and some methodologies used to overcome the problems. Several examples of teaching tools are included as appendices.

    Abstract
    There is a need for highly trained special collections and rare books catalogers as found in recent job postings. Where will these catalogers learn the unique skills needed for them to succeed in their careers? This paper is an environmental survey of courses offered by the 68 Library and Information Science programs accredited by the American Library Association. It evaluates what course offerings in cataloging and special collections are available. These findings suggest LIS programs currently do not offer sufficient numbers of courses to train special collections and rare books catalogers. Additional skills, from extra languages to knowledge of DCRM(B), need to be acquired in other ways, before, during, and after traditional LIS degree work.

    Abstract
    Die Zielsetzung des Managements der Ressource Wissen stößt auf zahlreiche Problemstellungen unterschiedlichster Art: mangelnde Vertrauensbasis und -kultur, psychosoziale Widerstände, inadäquate Infra- oder Organisationsstruktur, fehlende »Soft Skills« der Mitarbeiter, beschränkt taugliche Controlling-Instrumente und vieles mehr. Der/ die Wissensmanager/-in bzw. Top-Manager/-in, der/die die Herausforderung der bewussten »Bewirtschaftung« des verfügbaren Know-hows aktiv annimmt, findet sich vor einer vielschichtigen, transdisziplinären Problemstellung wieder. Ein postgradualer Lehrgang Wissensmanagement muss die Grundlagen zur Lösung dieser Problemstellungen beinhalten. Er soll Personen im mittleren und Top-Management und (zukünftigen) Wissensmanager/-innen wissenschaftlich und empirisch fundierte Kenntnisse für die erfolgreiche Planung, Umsetzung und Evaluierung von Wissensmanagementprojekten vermitteln. Für den neuen Universitätslehrgang Wissensmanagement (http://www.tim.donau-uni.ac.avIgwm/) an der Donau-Universität Krems wurde mit Unterstützung eines internationalen Expertenkreises ein Curriculum entwickelt, das die als wesentlich erachteten Disziplinen umfasst. Er wird im Sinne eines Monitoring empirisch begleitet durch die Befragung von Teilnehmern/-innen bzw. Managern/-innen, um die Praxistauglichkeit der angebotenen Inhalte sowohl vor als auch nach Beginn und Absolvierung des Lehrganges zu evaluieren. Ziele dieses Projektes sind (a) die Identifikation der Hürden für die Wissensgenerierung; (b) die Definition eines Spektrums daraus abgeleiteter Qualifikationen für Manager/-innen in Organisationen. Die daraus resultierende Studie wird aufbauend auf empirischen Ergebnissen und dem aktuellen Stand der Wissenschaft ein Spektrum von Kompetenzen und entsprechenden Qualifikationskriterien für Wissensmanager/-innen in mittleren und großen Unternehmen entworfen. Die ersten Ergebnisse dieses Projektes werden im Vortrag vorgestellt. Der Lehrgang berücksichtigt in einem ausgewogenen Verhältnis jene interdisziplinären Ebenen, die auf dem Weg zu einer wissensorientierten und lernenden Organisation zu berücksichtigen sind: Geschäftsund Wissensmanagementprozesse; Unternehmens- und Wissenskultur; Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik. Weiters wird das Management expliziter Information (information und Dokumentation, Informationswissenschaften) als Teilbereich des Wissensmanagements verstanden. Synergien und kreative Potenziale in Kombination mit dem Lehrgang Bibliotheks- und Informationsmanagernent werden in diesem Sinne durch die Lehrgangsleitung gezielt gefördert.     Abstract
    To prepare future information professionals for the rapidly changing environment in which they will work, LIS educators have an obligation to ensure that their graduates enderstand, conceptually and pragmatically, the major methodological paradigms of research. Most LIS programmes offer only a single course in research methods. Within that constraint, an important question is whether or not both qualitative and quantitative methods can be taught adequately. Suggests that, by integrating the teaching of both quantitative and qualitative methods through 'between methods' triangulation, an adequate learning experience can be achieved. Such an approach allows students to explore research problems from multiple perspectives and to evaluate critically the strengths and weaknesses of each methodology. discusses the need for such an integrated approach and suggests a scenario for applying it within the realm of a single semester course

    Abstract
    Since Library Science Education started in Nigeria about half a century ago, cataloguing has been regarded as a core subject in the curriculum. With the diversification of subjects, some core subjects were made electives. This did not affect cataloguing. Nigerian Libraries have not gone far in electronic data processing in their storage of data and information and as a result, libraries are still manual-oriented. Even though some libraries in Cross River State of Nigeria have taken their first steps towards automation, the library schools still find it necessary to continue to drill students in traditional cataloguing. The question of the relevance of cataloguing in an automated library system arises and this researcher investigates the hypothesis that cataloguing is still relevant in the library school curriculum using the descriptive survey methodology. The finding is that the manual system will continue to be used for a long time and so cataloguing will continue to be relevant even with the computer-produced catalogue.

    Abstract
    This paper presents a brief account of cataloging and classification education in Iran. The number of universities with library and information science departments is given along with content of the courses taught on cataloging and classification. Cataloging rules, subject heading lists and classification schedules taught are discussed. Changes of the curricula over the past 5-10 years as well as anticipated changes over the next 5-10 years are enumerated. Degrees awarded, number of faculty teaching in the area of cataloging and classification and the number of students taking cataloging related coursework for a year or semester are the other topics covered by the paper. The role of teaching assistants and the practicum of students in library cataloging and/or cataloging related departments are also discussed.

    Abstract
    This paper concentrates on the current state of cataloging and classification education in Egypt. The authors highlight the changes occurred in the past five years and also envision the expected changes for the near future. All courses related inclusively to cataloging (both descriptive and subject) and classification of library materials have been examined. Research design includes analyzing curricula, distributing written questionnaire, and interviewing library and information science faculty from different departments throughout the country. The paper reveals a number of findings that are of particular relevance to the current and near-future cataloging and classification education in Egypt. Among these findings are the increasing focus on machine-readable cataloging, cooperation in cataloging, improving the practical part of cataloging and classification education, the need for continuing education of instructors, and continuing development of cataloging courses.
