- Das EconBiz Academic Career Kit ist ein interaktives Online-Tutorial für den wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs in den Wirtschaftswissenschaften. In drei Modulen geht es um die Themen: erste Veröffentlichung, Open Access, Predatory Journals und Urheberrecht - Wissenschaftskommunikation, kollaboratives Arbeiten, Networking und Metriken - Forschungsdatenmanagement. Angebote der Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz sind in diesen Feldern und für diese Zielgruppe in Deutschland noch nicht flächendeckend verbreitet. Darum - und weil Forschende sich zu diesen Fragen meist im Netz informieren - ist das Academic Career Kit als OER unter der Lizenz CC-BY veröffentlicht und damit zur Bearbeitung und Weiterverwendung durch Dritte freigegeben.

- Abstract
- Der Beitrag stellt Ergebnisse der Fachgruppe Informationskompetenz der KIBA vor, in der alle Lehrenden im Bereich der Vermittlung von Medien- und Informationskompetenz an bibliotheks- und informationswissenschaftlichen Studiengängen in Deutschland zusammenarbeiten. Ausgangspunkt ist das "Framework Informationskompetenz", ein Anforderungsrahmen, der gemeinsame Standards in der Qualifikation von Studierenden der Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft für das Aufgabenfeld der Förderung von Informationskompetenz sichern soll. Es wird aufgezeigt, wie die in diesem Rahmenmodell formulierten Qualifikationsstandards in den verschiedenen Studiengängen umgesetzt werden und wo es bedarfsbezogene Ausprägung und Gewichtung in den Qualifikationszielen gibt.

- Abstract
- The implementation of Resource Description and Access (RDA) in 2013 or after will have a powerful impact on the skill set required of new library and information science professionals. This article chronicles the development of an RDA "boot camp" at UNC-Chapel Hill's School of Information and Library Science. Curriculum for the three-hour camp included a review of relevant theoretical frameworks and a hands-on exercise creating RDA records. Findings from a post-boot camp survey point to areas for further growth in cataloging and metadata course development and suggest that students are eager for more practical experience with emerging schema.

- Abstract
- Der Beitrag beschreibt die Umstellung der Lehre vom bisherigen Katalogisierungsregelwerk RAK auf den neuen Standard RDA im Studiengang Bibliotheksund Informationsmanagement an der Stuttgarter Hochschule der Medien (HdM). Schon seit langem wurden Informationen zu RDA in den Unterricht integriert. Seit 2014/15 beginnen die Studienanfänger mit RDA; für die "Umsteiger", die noch mit RAK begonnen hatten, gibt es besondere Angebote. Das zugrundeliegende FRBR-Modell stellt die Studierenden kaum vor Probleme. Jedoch lassen sich viele Aspekte von RDA in realen Erfassungsformaten nur schwer erkennen, weshalb im Unterricht teilweise mit formatfreien Katalogisaten in tabellarischer Form gearbeitet wird. Anders als RAK bietet RDA den Katalogisierern viele Ermessensspielraume, worauf man sich im Unterricht einstellen muss. Die älteren Standards RAK und ISBD spielen in der Lehre nur noch eine untergeordnete Rolle.

- Abstract
- Purpose - This paper seeks to focus on the design and testing of a web-based online board game for teaching undergraduate students information literacy skills and concepts. Design/methodology/approach - Project team members with expertise in game play, creative writing, programming, library research, graphic design and information seeking developed a web-based board game in which students used digital library resources to answer substantive questions on a scholarly topic. The project team hosted game play in a class of 75 undergraduate students. The instructor offered an extra-credit incentive to boost participation resulting in 49 students on 13 teams playing the game. Post-game focus group interviews revealed problematic features and redesign priorities. Findings - A total of six teams were successful meeting the criteria for the instructor's grade incentive achieving a 53.1 percent accuracy rate on their answers to substantive questions about the black death; 35.7 percent was the accuracy rate for the seven unsuccessful teams. Discussed in detail are needed improvements to problematic game features such as offline tasks, feedback, challenge functionality, and the game's black death theme. Originality/value - Information literacy games test what players already know. Because this project's successful teams answered substantive questions about the black death at accuracy rates 20 points higher than the estimated probability of guessing, students did the research during game play which demonstrates that games have merit for teaching students information literacy skills and concepts.

- Abstract
- This paper explores the online learning experience of seven students in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at Dominican University. In a class entitled Metadata for Internet Resources, the students developed a distance learning relationship with professional catalogers. Student assignments included posting bibliographic records on the WebBoardTM for mentor input. In an online exchange, the mentors responded by posting their suggestions for improving student records. The interaction between students and mentors is discussed, as is the educational value of distance learning.
