    Abstract
    Purpose - To discuss the mission statement for the Institute of Library and Information Sciences at Humboldt University in Berlin. Design/methodology/approach - The article examines other i-school mission statements to find the key common elements. Findings - Connections between people, technology, and information represent common themes of i-school missions. Originality/value - The Institute's mission statement is still being discussed. This analysis offers one viewpoint for the final conception.

    Abstract
    In lengthy interviews geoscience information specialists from government, academic institutions, and the corporate world discussed their views of the ideal education for practitioners in their field. They shared opinions and experiences concerning subject specialization, specific competencies and services, users and their information needs, management and administrative skills, and preparation for teaching and research. Common themes were those of new technologies, changing paradigms for libraries and information services, funding priorities, increasing and often competing demands on the information specialist's time, and the necessity for marketing and value-added services

    Abstract
    Discussions of cataloging and metadata education are popular in social media outlets, scholarly literature, conference meetings, and so on. This article, the third installment of a longitudinal study on the state of information organization (IO) education, analyzes the recent literature to identify new and continuing themes related to IO education. It provides an overview of the curricula of the 58 library and information science graduate programs in the United States and Canada accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). It examines the current conditions in 2012-2013 and compares them to data from earlier studies. It provides an overview of the types of IO courses available, program requirements, the number of schools offering IO courses, and the number of schools teaching those courses.

    Abstract
    Seit dem Sommersemester 2003 bietet die Fachhochschule Köln den Bachelor-Studiengang Online-Redakteur an. Die Regelstudienzeit beträgt sechs Semester, nach erfolgreichem Abschluss wird den Studierenden der Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) verliehen. Der Studiengang kombiniert die Bereiche Journalistik, Informationswissenschaft, Öffentlichkeitsarbeit und Web-Design. Im Februar 2005 ging die Website www.koeln-sued-stadt.de online, ein umfangreiches Content-Projekt das die 30 Studierenden im vierten Semester gemeinsam durchführten. Hier zeigte sich, dass Online Redakteure zur Realisierung einer Website unterschiedliche Fähigkeiten in den Bereichen Konzeption, Visualisierung, technische Umsetzung und inhaltliche Gestaltung anwenden und kombinieren müssen. Der Schwerpunkt des Südstadt-Projektes lag dabei auf der Erstellung von Content, also der Recherche und der journalistischen Aufbereitung von Informationen für das Web.

    Abstract
    The current state of graduate bibliographic control education in the United States is examined through reviewing the literature, analyzing Web sites for 48 LIS programs, and corresponding with and interviewing bibliographic control educators. In reviewing the recent bibliographic control education literature, six primary themes were identified: background/contextual information, theory versus practice, responsibilities and skills needed by catalogers, relations between educators and practitioners, the universality of cataloging, and curricular issues. Each of these areas is examined in depth. The study conducted examined the number and types of bibliographic control education available in LIS programs in the US. It also collected information on which textbooks were being used in each course. It appears from the study that some courses are increasing in number. The primary areas of bibliographic control education examined include organizing information, technical services, classification theory, indexing, thesaurus construction, cataloging technology, and basic, advanced, descriptive, subject, non-book, Internet resources, and music cataloging courses.

    Abstract
    Der Beitrag stellt zunächst die Ergebnisse einer Auswertung von Stellenanzeigen aus der Mailingliste InetBib vor, die zeigt, dass die Nachfrage nach Absolventinnen und Absolventen bibliothekarischer Studiengänge mit einer Qualifikation für den Aufgabenbereich der Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz seit dem Jahr 2000 signifikant gestiegen ist. Ergänzend hierzu präsentieren die Autorinnen die Ergebnisse einer Befragung unter Vertreterinnen und Vertretern der bibliothekarischen Berufspraxis zu im Bereich der Vermittlung von Informationskompetenz geforderten Kompetenzen und deren Gewichtung innerhalb der verschiedenen Qualifikationsstufen.
