    Abstract
The inability of students to evaluate information sources often results in lists of bibliographic references that may be termed, relative to student needs, value-zero citations. This problem has exacerbated by the advent of CD-ROM databases that may yield more but not necessariliy more relevant information to undergraduate students. Reports the findings of a 2-part study conducted at the Alexander Library, Rutgers Univ. to discover what problems students were having that led to this situation. The study emphasises a 2-tier value-added instructional model that incorporates the reaching of critical thinking skills, in terms of evaluating citation elements, and information sources

    Abstract
With the introduction of the single market, more and more European Community information databases are becoming available either online or on CD-ROM. Some databases are full text but many are bibliographic. Users may access them free text or through controlled descriptors but ideally they should be able to search through 1 or more subject access points. Each of the databases uses a different method and the different subject access methods, employing thesauri or classification schemes, are examined. Proposes a solution to the problem of multiple thesauri and multilingualism

    Abstract
Describes the union catalogue of braille and recorded books maintained by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) at the Library of Congress. The union catalogue contains 150.000 bibliographic records representing approximately 15.000.000 copies. These records come from many sources, including foreign libraries. The catalogue is available on microfiche, as a database on BRS, on CD-ROM and Internet versions have enabled patrons to use adaptive equipment to find materials on their own. The LoC welcomes further listings as long as they are held in a specific location and are available for loan, exchange, or purchase

    Abstract
National bibliographies serve a variety of functions, but act essentially as archival records of the national imprint. However, coverage and currency are often constrained by inadequate legal deposit mechanisms, and it may be questioned whether the national bibliography needs to include all publications or whether the national bibliographic agency should act as a coordinator of current bibliographic data. Some have been driven to reduce the bibliographic content of their records as a result of declining income and increases in publishing output. Such measures have not met with universal approval, but appear to have resulted in improved currency. Technology continues to have an impact on the production of national bibliographies, with CD-ROMs, the UNIMARC format and, particularly, networking initiatives all facilitating greater availability of and access to bibliographic information. Networking may well render less relevant the local basis of national bibliographies, with possibilities for supranational coverage and the linking of document supply to bibliographic access

    Abstract
Presents a list of 53 periodicals in 22 subject fields which regularly provide bibliographies of theses, research in progress and patents in their particular subject field. The fields of business, economics, history and literature have most periodical listings of dissertations and theses. Also lists 63 periodicals in 25 sub-disciplines which provide rankings or ratings. Rankings and ratings information predominates in the fields of business, sports and games, finance and banking, and library and information science
