    Abstract
Outlines the ADONIS system: an experiment in which the contents of over 200 biomedical journals are scanned and stored on CD-ROM describes how the DOCMATCH project uses the Universal Standard Bibliographic Code to link bibliographic data bases to the ADONIS workstation, thus automating the ink from reference to full text data base. The DOCMATCH workstation at document supply centres divides orders into ADONIS material and non-ADONIS material so that the ADONIS workstation can then process the material automatically.

    Abstract
The article establishes the background for OCLC's international interests and then briefly surveys the varied collaborative activities being undertaken in Europe, the Far East and Canada. An enumeration of the benefits to be enjoyed by the parties at interest is followed by identification of the more troublesome problems that must be resolved. While problems are large, they are more than offset by the worldwide benefits to be derived.

    Abstract
The British Library (BL) is CD-ROM as a medium for the distribution of bibliographic records. The BL has been looking at the possibilities for putting its data bases on CD-ROM and has collaborated with the Bibliothèque Nationale, France, to produce a pilot disc holding British and French bibliographic records which has been widely distributed. The BL plans to issue the British National Bibliography on CD-ROM this year, and progress is being made on other cooperative ventures between European national libraries.

    Abstract
Bookscape is a Windows based CD-ROM resource which can be used to explore current books. Reviews the February edition, covering the period Jul 89 to Jan 96, suggesting that the material included is mainly of North American origin and would be more useful for book selection than information retrieval work. Describes search features and the quality of the records

    Abstract
Production of the annual bibliography on French history resumed in 1955, after disruption caused by the war, as a collaborative initiative set up by the national library (BNF) and the national centre for higher research (CNRS). Staff from CNRS are based at the BNF, which allows direct access to collections and acquisitions, and the bibliography is published by CNRS

    Abstract
The DanBib system is a nation-wide union catalogue offering a number of common functions and a network to all Danish libraries - public as well as academic ones. The system is managed by the Danish Library Centre Ltd - a privately organized company owned by national and local government together with the biggest Danish publishing house. The Danish way is, indeed, unique in an international context. In this article a number of basic prerequisites which had to be fulfilled to bring about the Danish solution are discussed.

    Abstract
August 2003 statt.

    Abstract
By A.D. 2000 the English-speaking countries will have their English Short Title Catalogue (ESTC), listing all works printed before 1801. No equivalent German work is planned at present. ESTC will be based on UK short title catalogues published earlier, covering 1475-1640 (Pollard and Redgrave) and 1641-1700 (Wing). Since 1970 a pilot project has run for a short title catalogue, in machine-readable form, of 18th century works. Libraries abroad will add entries to ESTC. Entry structure is in modified MARC format. By autumn 1990 over 285.000 ESTC entires were retrievable. Material from Pollard and Redgrave and from Wing will be converted into machine-readable form, resulting in a national union catalogue. An ESTC of 19th century works is under consideration

    Abstract
Over the last decade, networks such as the Western Library Network (WLN have faced an ever-growing number of challenges to their viability. These include rising telecommunications costs and increasing local processing power. WLN has responded to these challenges in several ways. WLN will continue to offer a high quality, centrally maintained database, with special emphasis on providing an accurate linked authority file. To further promote this goal, a Cataloging/Inputting Service and Sample Review program for original cataloging input by members have been implemented. Service area restrictions have been removed to encourage use of WLN throughout the West and beyond. Finally, WLN has developed Lasercat, a CD-ROM based catalog containing over one half the WLN database.
