    Abstract
Ovid has supported a sophisticated interface for searching bibliographic and full text databases for some time. It is now offering a Web based version of this interface that is capable of accessing Z39.50-compliant OPACs and databases anywhere in the world. The Ovid Web Gateway builds on the Ovid Server, thus allowing for a variety of functions and configurations at user, group and database-specific level. The Web Gateway has a selection of download formats and delivery options

    Abstract
Describes the features of a library automation application called Micro CDS/ISIS. The software produced by UNESCO is used by more than 15.000 instituions all over the world. It is cost free and readily available. Its technical features include minimum hardware requirements, large database capacity, variable length fields, repeatable fields, subfields, powerful indexing, and rapid searching. It follows international data exchange standards. Support features include extensive documentation and a worldwide user group. Training courses in CDS/ISIS are conducted worldwide. These features ensure that CDS/ISIS library software is ideal for developing countries

    Abstract
A review of EndNote Plus which enables users to create and export lists of references for use in wordprocessing packages. The system has been available for some time, but a new version (2.3) has improved the links between database and wordprocessing packages. Creation of reference lists is a simple task and searching is rapid, although indexing is rather slow. Documentation and online help screens are more that adequate and an active discussion group is maintained by the supplier. It is particular suitable in conjunction with Windows

    Abstract
Many thousands of researchers are now using personal bibliographic managers such as Reference Manager, EndNote and ProCite to access bibliographic databases via the Z39.50 protocol. With the EndNote software as an example, this paper demonstrates how researchers are using a standard search interface to access diverse databases and download references into their personal databases. There follows an overview of problems involved in searching the Z39.50 servers of some standard library automation systems (Innovative Interfaces, GEAC, SIRSI, Endeavour) and of two vendors of non-OPAC databases (Research Libraries Group and SilverPlatter). The paper concludes with some suggestions as to how the library community can contribute to improving the effectiveness of Z39.50 as a research tool.
