    Abstract
Describes key events in the development of cataloguing of Internet resources and ssurveys current activities. The fundamental questions are: are Internet resources worth cataloguing; is traditional MARC/AACR2 cataloguing appropriate for Internet resources; and how should resources that change location be dealt with? Libraries should start by cataloguing an Internet resource. Bibliographic records can be used to drive Web applications. Metadata holds considerable promise

    Footnote
Account of the experience of the City of Geneva archives in using International Standard Archive Description - General (USAD-G) and making the resultant catalogue available on the Internet. The archives, initiated in 1986, comprise some 100 lots: 2 part-time staff took 10 months to complete the project. ISAD-G fields requiring research to complete were not fully treated. Internet availability offers ease of update, and feedback can be used for further refinement. At present Swiss institutions largely ignore both ISAD-G and the Internet

    Abstract
Despite the rapid growth of the Internet no adequate or consistent method of referencing material from this source has been developed. Failure to address this issue will result in Internet resources not being awarded full recognition within academic discourse. Proposes the development of a consistent bibliographical referencing method which echoes existing referencing styles and which emerges from available information in Internet based file formats including HTML

    Abstract
Introduces a special section on organizing Internet resources. Approaches based on fulltext indexing of the content of Internet sites are not an adequate solution for providing access to Internet resources. Adding metadata can provide an overview of a subject area and improve the user's ability to discriminate among similar sources. Introduces the articles in this section that explore issues associated with the provision of metadata

    Abstract
While the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, Second Edition (AACR2) has served well for all kinds of new information packages as they have been developed since the inception of AACR2 in 1978, the Internet is presenting challenges that are not as readily soluble. Five of the major problems for catalogers are discussed: What is an information package? What is a chief source of information? What is a new edition? Are all Internet resources "published"? Why a "Rule of 3"? Some issues and problems are discussed and some recommendations are made

    Abstract
Information from government sources is being added to the Internet at an ever increasing rate. Describes how cataloguers at Pennsylvania State University are working with AACR2, OCLC's Internet cataloguing project (Intercat), and the creators of the Pennsylvania State Libraries' WWW home page to include both Internet sites and electronic publications in the library's online catalogue. Demonstartes the use of cataloguing records to show relationships between Internet resources and the printed materials that they supplement or replace

    Abstract
The number of resources on the Internet continues to expand exponentially, but finding appropriate resources is still a fragmented, random operation. Argues that traditional library expertise in bibliographic description and access should be applied to the management of this emerging body of material. In the process, cataloguers will be able to assess the adequacy of current tools (cataloguing codes, computerized cataloguing formats, integrated library systems) for providing access to Internet resources and will contribute credibly to design or redesign of access tools. Outlines the major issues that must be considered in cataloguing electronic resources

    Abstract
Describes Oslo University's Informatics Library's and Institute's project on making Institute publications electronically accessible, using the PostScript or HTML formats and the WWW. Examines the fields relevant to cataloguing of the electronic documents. Some documents are available both in physical and electronic form and links are entered to Internet resources which relate to the physical document catalogued. Hopes that others will catalogue electronic documents for their parent institutions and widen the bibliographic description by adding external Internet resources

    Abstract
The library and Internet communities have been working on standards for identifying and referencing electronic resources. Reports on recent library efforts, including work to record URL and URN (Uniform Resource Locator and Uniform Resource Number) information in USMARC records, and collaboration with the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to define a Uniform Resource Citation for electronic publications
