- Abstract
- "Fazit: Die Sacherschliessung im Bibliothekskontext richtet sich nach dem Angebot und dem Zugang, den die Bibliothek bietet. Ein Regelwerk muss so gestaltet sein, dass die Bibliothek die Erschliessungstiefe selbst bestimmen kann. Im Datenaustausch macht dann die Übernahme von Fremddaten nur unter ähnlichen Bibliotheken Sinn. Metakataloge können keine sinnvollen Facetten anbieten, hier muss ein Relevanz-Ranking genügen. Dasselbe gilt für die Discovery Tools, in denen Quellen mit verschiedenen Erschliessungssystemen unter einer Oberfläche suchbar gemacht werden. In Kombination mit den Daten der Formalerschliessung sollen hingegen auch bei den Discovery Tools Filter so gestaltet sein, dass in spezifischen Beständen, die intellektuell sachlich erschlossen sind, ein Index der Schlagwörter als Themenfacetten angezeigt und genutzt werden kann. Die RDA wird dafür den Rahmen geben müssen."

- Abstract
- Normdateien lösen das Problem von unterschiedlichen Namensschreibweisen, Übersetzungen und Namensdoppelungen. Nationale oder an Sprachräume gebundene Normdaten sind mittlerweile im "Virtual International Authority File" Projekt (VIAF) über Konkordanzen miteinander verlinkt. Neben diesen von Bibliotheken erstellten Normdaten entstehen aber auch in anderen Kontexten Identifizierungssysteme, die die Uneindeutigkeit von Personennamen in sehr großen Datenmengen beseitigen sollen. Ein arbeitsaufwändiges Problem ist dabei aber immer noch nicht gelöst: nach wie vor müssen Bibliothekare die Identität der Autoren mühsam recherchieren. Wie einfach wäre es, wenn die GND oder LoC Nummer beim Namen des Autors abgedruckt wäre! An einem Pilotprojekt der UB Tübingen wird demonstriert, wie durch die Zusammenarbeit von Herausgeber, Verlag und Bibliothek die GND-Nummern der Autoren in der Publikation abgedruckt werden können.

- The point of this paper is not to critique RDA (a futile task, since RDA is here to stay), but to make plain that its claim to be a solution to the challenge(s) of bibliographic description in the Internet Age is unfounded, and, secondarily, to explain why such wild claims continue to be advanced and go unchallenged by the rank and file of career catalogers.
