- Abstract
- Das MARC21-Datenformat wird aus der Sicht eines praktizierenden AACR2/MARC-Katalogisierers vorgeführt. Der Autor gibt zunächst eine allgemeine Einführung in das MARC21 Bibliographic Format. Der zweite Abschnitt der Arbeit ist der Erschließung von mehrteiligen bzw. mehrbändigen Werken gewidmet. Die Behandlung von mehrteiligen bzw. mehrbändigen Werken, in der AACR2-Welt "Analyse" genannt, ist nämlich der Punkt, an dem die anglo-amerikanische und die deutsche Katalogisierungspraxis am weitesten auseinandergehen. Die verschiedenen Formen der "Analyse" werden erläutert im Hinblick auf die Frage, inwiefern diese Praxen den Bedürfnissen der Benutzer gerecht werden. Auf eine kurze Behandlung der besonderen Problematik der fortlaufenden Sammelwerke folgt dann eine Einführung in das MARC21 Authorities Format für Normdatensätze. Die Rolle der verschiedenen Arten von Normdatensätzen bei der Katalogisierung wird auch besprochen. DerAufsatz schließt mit einem Kommentar über verschiedene Aspekte der Verlinkung von Datensätzen.

- Abstract
- Der Beitrag wirft eine Reihe von Fragestellungen auf, die aus Sicht der Standardisierungsforschung beim Regelwerkswechsel von RAK nach RDA untersuchenswert sind. Sie reichen von der Frage, wann sich ein Metadatenstandard durchgesetzt hat und wie er gesteuert wird bis zur konkreten Anwendung des Standards im Arbeitsalltag von Tausenden von Bibliothekaren und der Frage, wie sie den Standard bei der Umsetzung in ihre lokale Praxis transformieren. Der Beitrag beschreibt dabei Skizzen und Ansatzpunkte für künftige Untersuchungen.

- Abstract
- This review of 2004 and 2005 serials literature covers the themes of cost, management, and access. Interwoven through the serials literature of these two years are the importance of collaboration, communication, and linkages between scholars, publishers, subscription agents and other intermediaries, and librarians. The emphasis in the literature is on electronic serials and their impact on publishing, libraries, and vendors. In response to the crisis of escalating journal prices and libraries' dissatisfaction with the Big Deal licensing agreements, Open Access journals and publishing models were promoted. Libraries subscribed to or licensed increasing numbers of electronic serials. As a result, libraries sought ways to better manage licensing and subscription data (not handled by traditional integrated library systems) by implementing electronic resources management systems. In order to provide users with better, faster, and more current information on and access to electronic serials, libraries implemented tools and services to provide A-Z title lists, title by title coverage data, MARC records, and OpenURL link resolvers.

- Abstract
- Die Bildung von Trigrammen wird in der automatisierten Dublettenerkennung häufig in Situationen angewandt, in denen "sehr ähnliche" aber nicht idente Datensätze als Duplikate identifiziert werden sollen. In dieser Arbeit werden drei auf Trigrammen beruhende Erkennungsverfahren (das Jaccard-Maß, der euklidische Abstand sowie der Ähnlichkeitswert des KOBV) praktisch angewandt, sämtliche dabei notwendigen Schritte umgesetzt und schließlich der Verbrauch an Zeit und Ressourcen (=die "Performanz") gemessen. Die hier zur Anwendung gelangte Datenmenge umfasst 392.616 bibliographische Titeldatensätze, die im Österreichischen Bibliothekenverbund erbracht wurden.

- Abstract
- Despite witnessing the enormous success of cooperative cataloguing programmes in Europe and North America, libraries in Saudi Arabia and other Arabian Gulf states have made no concerted afforts in initiating similar programmes. Emphasizes the need for cooperation in cataloguing, especially of local materials. Due to unavailability of cataloguing copy from the Library of Congress and other sources for a high percentage of imprints from Arab countries and in the absence of bibliographic cooperation, libraries are doing redundant cataloguing and thus wasting both time and money. Reviews the current state of bibliographic cooperation, discusses prospects for further cooperation, and highlights difficulties in cooperation. Concludes with recommendations that the King Fahd National Library develop a national cooperative cataloguing programme with specific goals, set guidelines and prepare rules and procedures for participating libraries to contribute in various cooperative cataloguing programmes in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

- Die formale Analyse von Dokumenten ist komplex und vielschichtig. Um sie beschreiben zu können, muß sie unter verschiedenen Gesichtspunkten betrachtet werden. - Abstract
- Die Einführung des internationalen Regelwerks Resource Description and Access (RDA) bietet neue Perspektiven für die Erschließung von Filmen. Auf der Suche nach James Bond 007 werden beispielhaft Probleme in der gegenwärtigen Praxis der Katalogisierung und Zugänglichmachung von Filmen skizziert. Tragen die RDA-Anwendungsrichtlinien für den deutschsprachigen Raum D-A-CH in der derzeitigen Form den Erfordernissen des Mediums Film ausreichend Rechnung? Der Beitrag plädiert für eine Überprüfung und Ergänzung der Anwendungsrichtlinien, um audiovisuelle und multimediale Inhalte angemessen zu verzeichnen und darüber hinaus die institutionenübergreifende Vernetzung von Bestanden und Sammlungen in Bibliotheken, Archiven und Museen zu ermöglichen.
