    Abstract
Describes the problem of cataloguing ephemera, and advocates a hybrid cataloguing practice, combining from as many codes as necessary the most appropriate rules. Offers advice on constructing the following elements of MARC-formatted catalogue records: main entry; title and edition; publisher statement; date; physical extent; note area; and access

    Abstract
Electronic publishing will complicate the problem of national and international standards of bibliographic description. No agreement exists on the description of electronic documents, especially for those, which are published with little or no relation to the print concept ISO 10956 which is available as Committee Draft, seems a possible perspective but in spite of the diversification of document supply forms little explication is given in the draft to the system requirements for using the documents. Sets forth solutions to this problem

    Abstract
In Nov. 89, the Archives and Special Collections Department of the Harriet Irving Library at the University of New Brunswick (UNB)in Fredericton was awarded a grant to catalogue 90.000 items comprising Lord Beaverbrook's Canadian correspondence. The UK counterpart to this fonds resides at the House of Lords Record Pffice in London, but this unit was donated to UNB by A.J.P. Taylor, the historian. The problem in cataloguing this fonds was to make the best use of available resources: a well-organized archival unit; a powerful online cataloguing system accessible internationally; and the consistent application of descriptive standards. Focuses on the practical solution to the problem

    Abstract
Explores the confusion between main entry and main entry heading and attempts to finally lay the ghost to rest by shifting the emphasis onto the problem of work authority - the problem with which the theory of main entry is actually concerned. Concentrating on the second function of the catalogue as defined in the "Paris principles" of 1961, the paper examines various contributions on main entry including those delivered at the Toronto conference on AACR in 1997. Proposes the establishment of a global work authority file in which each individual work is primarily identified by a modified version of the uniform title, a departure which would restore the title (as opposed to the author) as principal identifier of the work.

    Abstract
Describes the technical aspects of a feasibility study to test a new concept in bibliographic control based on the manifestations of a work. Conventional catalogues are based on the main entry principle which follows from the concept that there should be 1 main entry for each work. The Bradford OPAC project, at Bradford University, UK, aimed to develop a new type of hierarchical bibliographic record structure to cope with the problem of applying the main entry principle to multiple cataloguing records which are manisfestations of the same work. The project involved the storage of MARC data sets of bibliographic records, taken from the Bradford University Library OPAC and the OCLC WorldCat database, in a relational database (MS Access) on a PC. This was then used for an experimental Windows based OPAC, to evaluate the overall success of the idea and any problem areas identified with a view to a more substantial study. The project also aimed to test whether intelligent and responsive software, using a graphic user interface and based on sets of manifestations, could provide a better route to information than a display based on a single work
