    Abstract
Most Likely, this revision of Cataloguing Theory and Practice 6th Edition by Professor C.G. Viswanathan has the distinction of commanding continued use since 1954, both in India and abroad . Besides providing a comprehensive and balanced perspective of library catalogues from Collimates to AACR-2 1988 revision, enabling students and the faculty of library and information science at universities, and practicing cataloguers towards rationalization, the work projects an analysis of pros and cons of continuing the cataloguing procedures and techniques and maintaining it in the traditional form of cards filed in cabinet or to adopt the MARC techniques, and computerise it online with the advanced countries of the West. The impact of computerisation on the users, library staff and library administration with regard to its cost effectiveness has been discussed. Two new chapters. Computerised Catalogue (chapter-8) and Headings for Name Entries (Chapter-26) according to AACR2, 1988 revision has been added. The data and been brought to date. A brief account of the British Library's Cataloguing Conversion Project of the British Museum's General Catalogue to Machine Readable From presents an exciting experience. The Library of Congress MARC System has also been given due consideration. The select working bibliography of a cataloguer has also been revised. he order of the chapters has been, as in previous editions, retained. It is expected that the sixth edition of Cataloguing Theory and Practice' would command the same respect of the author's colleagues, as justify its value as an unfailing companion in all cataloguing assignments.

    Abstract
Defines the virtual catalogue as a bibliographic database built up from a variety of sources, but in which differences between those sources and the means of accessing individual records from particular files are largely invisible to the user. Discusses the issue of common standards for bibliographic records in the virtual catalogue based on the author's experience of the UK Copyright Shared Cataloguing Programme. Considers the problem of deviations from standards, and suggests that in the are of the virtual catalogue present standards should be reconsidered and modified as appropriate. Access, display of records, and searching techniques are 3 areas that need such reconsideration. Recommends greater cooperation with the book trade in order to maximize the use of published information

    Abstract
The cataloging community is at a crossroads. Will catalogers need to continue learning both Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules , Second Edition (AACR2) and Resource Description and Access (RDA), or will learning RDA alone be enough? Through a selective literature review and examining the RDA Toolkit, it seems that there is currently a collective need to have access to both codes. However, when considering both Library of Congress-Program for Cooperative Cataloging (LC-PCC) and OCLC initiatives and an example from this author's institution relating to authority control in RDA and bibliographic record hybridization, it may only be necessary to learn RDA in the future. Additional research into practitioner experience could be done in the future to further examine this.

    Abstract
The idea of bibliographic ontology comes from actual needs rather than today's common push to use the technology simply because it exists. The librarian community has always been enthusiastic to technical novelties to improve their work and make it more efficient. It is no different today. Managing bibliographic resources such as books was always a serious task. The goals are simple: to allow those who need access to the information quickly and surely. Unfortunately, these simple goals become more and more difficult to accomplish in the environment of dynamically growing number of resources and users. The problem of information overload has become one of the major concerns in the Internet era. The publishing model of the Internet allows anyone, anywhere and anytime to publish their work and to make it publicly available. It is in both the author's and the reader's interest to make access to such resources as straightforward as possible. What could be accomplished by paper cards in nineteenth century libraries is not enough today. The most common bibliographic resource - a book - may seem simple to manage. We may state the author, title and perhaps a short summary and hope someone will notice it. But what about finding other books from the same field of knowledge? What about checking author's professional background? Or technical article reviews? What about finding aerial photos of San Francisco Bay showing Golden Gate Bridge construction?
