    Abstract
Describes a new Program for Cooperative Cataloging NACO funnel project that was begun in August 2004 among four academic and one state library in South Dakota. The desire to start this project originated from the South Dakota State Library, whose cataloging staff wanted to receive training on authority record creation in order to create and update authority records for state agency names. Details the work and steps that go into creating a funnel project, the training process, and includes a brief discussion of the types and scope of records that the South Dakota NACO Funnel Project has created to date.

    Abstract
Catalogers at The Ohio State University (OSU) Libraries, Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML), and Cleveland Public Library (CPL) are collaborating through the Ohio Name Authority Cooperative (NACO) funnel to create personal name authority records that directly benefit library patrons. Although OSU provides training and review, all three libraries receive value from the collaboration. There have been obstacles, however, such as cataloging training and workflow differences between public and academic libraries. This article will discuss the challenges and benefits of this interlibrary cataloger collaboration from the point of view of all three libraries, plans for the future, and best practices for other libraries that are interested in public/academic library collaborations of this kind.

    Abstract
Dominican University's Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) was one of a funnel group of graduate schools of library and information science selected to test RDA. A seminar specifically for this purpose was conducted from August to December 2010. Fifteen students participated in the test, creating records in AACR2 and in RDA, encoding them in the MARC format, and responding to the required questionnaires. In addition to record creation, the students were also asked to submit a final paper in which they described their experiences and recommended whether or not to accept RDA as a replacement for AACR2.

    Abstract
The past ten years have seen an expansion in participation by non-U.S. institutions in what were once solely American cooperative cataloging programs. Overlaying older bilateral relationships between national libraries, membership in the Program for Cooperative Cataloging has come to include willing institutions in a variety of organizational models: single membership, participation in a group ''funnel'' specially formed for the purpose, or as an outgrowth of a local bibliographic network. The resulting dispersion of bibliographic and authority work among many institutions gives rise to a welcome participatory model in standards and rule-setting.

    Abstract
This paper provides a brief overview of the development and current status of the Cataloging-in-Publication (CIP) project in China. The China CIP project is a new one implemented in 1993. In the paper, the development of CIP in the world is described, followed by when and how it was introduced into China. The paper tells the significances of CIP in detail. The implementation of the CIP project and differences of CIP work in China from that in the United States are also reflected here. Finally, the contribution discusses the problems in implementing the project and suggests ways to solve them. The project combines the publishing house, library, and distributor into the document information system. CIP is not only a kind of cataloging, but also a bond among them. It is believed that the CIP project in China has a bright future.

    Abstract
This article describes in detail the library implementation of a Resource Description and Access (RDA) Enrichment project. The library "hybridized," or enriched legacy data from Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules bibliographic records by the addition of specific RDA elements. The project also cleaned up various other elements in the bibliographic data that were not directly RDA-related. There were over 28 million changes and edits made to these records, changes that would never have been made otherwise because the library lacked the resources to do them independently. The enrichment project made the bibliographic data consistent, and helped prepared the data for its eventual transition to a linked data environment.

    Abstract
Describes a project to create a bibliographic control system for archival quality video and audio recordings of political commercials. The project objectives were: to design a local computer searchable database; prepare item level records for the local database; and prepare collection level records for the OCLC Online Union Catalog. The collection level records are intended to alert scholars, researchers, and other potential users to the existence of the archive and to direct them to it for more powerful item level searching in the local database. Some of the cataloguing problems discussed are: choice of cataloguing tools and MARC formats; organization of the collections around the political candidate, and name authority

    Abstract
A survey in spring 94 indicates that most prominent book vendor provide: cataloguing records, authority control and shelf ready book. Considers the advantages and disadvantages of using book vendor cataloguing. Currently most libraries use book vendor supplied cataloguing to process approval books. Explains the process. Procedures worked out by the fast cataloguing project, PromptCat run by OCLC, Yankee Books and Michigan State Libraries may simplify work flow further

    Abstract
Considers the problem of applying standard concepts of cataloguing and bibliographic control to electronic media by studying the degree of fit between the Standford Integrated Digital Library Project (SDLP) and both the USMARC format and the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI). Notes the lack of fit of both USMARC and TEI but stresses the advantages of the latter due its lack of dependency on 3 digit tags and its use of SGML conventions

    Abstract
This article describes experiments in the use of machine learning techniques at the British Library to assign language codes to catalog records, in order to provide information about the language of content of the resources described. In the first phase of the project, language codes were assigned to 1.15 million records with 99.7% confidence. The automated language identification tools developed will be used to contribute to future enhancement of over 4 million legacy records.

    Abstract
Describes the origins of the CATaloguing and Retrieval of Information Over Network Applications (CATRIONA) Study in the BUBL Subject Tree service and nots its aims: to investigate the requirements for developing procedures and applications for cataloguing and retrieval of networked resources (particularly via the Internet); and to explore the feasibility of a collaborative project to develop and integrate them with existing library systems. The project established that a distributed catalogue of networked resources integrated with standard Z39.50 library system OPAC interfaces with information on hard copy resources is already a practical proposition at a basic level. Notes that at least one Z30.50 OPAC client can searcg remote Z39.50 OPACs, retrieve USMARC records with URLs in MARC field 856

    Abstract
Compares and contrasts the essential differences between traditional and digital information media, reexamines the role of OPACs, refines the definition of library catalogues, and advocates the addition of Internet resources within the OPAC. Describes the building of the Alex Catalog, as part of the Alcuin Project at North Carolina State University, a catalogue of Internet resources in the format of MARC format records. Concludes with a process for integrating the further inclusion of other Internet resources into OPACs as well as some of the obstacles such a process manifests

    Abstract
The FRBR model is by many considered to be an important contribution to the next generation of bibliographic catalogues, but a major challenge for the library community is how to use this model on already existing MARC-based bibliographic catalogues. This problem requires a solution for the interpretation and conversion of MARC records, and a tool for this kind of conversion is developed as a part of the Norwegian BIBSYS FRBR project. The tool is based on a systematic approach to the interpretation and conversion process and is designed to be adaptable to the rules applied in different catalogues.

    Abstract
International efforts to provide authority control include the work of IFLA, the AUTHOR Project funded by the European Commission, and related work conducted under the auspices of the ICA/CDS. IFLA developed the guidelines Form and Structure of Corporate Headings, documented the formulation of names along the lines of national origin in its publication Names of Persons, and published Guidelines for Authority and Reference Entries. Attention has shifted from a single authority record for each entity that would be shared internationally through the exchange of records to linking parallel authority records for the same entity. The access control of the future will account for difference in cataloging rules, transliteration standards, and cultural differences within the same language as well as for the need for different languages and scripts and will enable users to display the script and form of a heading that they expect. Project AUTHOR is a shared set of resource national authority files that used selections from the authority files of France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, and Belgium. The prototype tested an adaptation of Z39.50 server software for authority records and displays for user interface. An international standard for authority control records has been developed for corporate bodies, persons, and families. Through joint meetings efforts have been synchronized to develop authority control at the international level.

    Abstract
German academic libraries acquire a large number of books from British and American publishers. The bibliographic records of the Library of Congress and the British National Bibliography are offered in most German library networks. Thus, projects REUSE and REUSE+ were undertaken when there was a demand for harmonization of Germany cataloging rules with AACR2 (Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules). Experts in the United States and Germany systematically analyzed bibliographic data and compared the codes on which the data were based. Major and minor differences in cataloging rules were identified. The REUSE group proposed German participation in international authority files and changes in RAK, the German cataloging rules. In REUSE+ the different types of hierarchical bibliographic structures in USMARC and MAB2 and other German formats were analyzed. The German project group made suggestions concerning both the German formats and the USMARC format. Steps toward rule alignment and harmonization of online requirements were made when the German Cataloging Rules Conference made decisions on resolutions prepared by the Working Groups on Descriptive Cataloging that dealt with titles, encoding of form titles and conference terms, prefixes in names, hierarchies, entries under persons and corporate bodies, and the conceptual basis of RAK2 in the context of harmonization. Although problems remain, German rule makers have made progress toward internationality.

    Abstract
Reports the work of the ad hoc task force, coordinated by the Scholarly Communications Project (SCP) at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, to discuss the best means of cataloguing the theses palnned to be produced directly in electronic forms by postgraduate students. The main goals were to determine a process for handling electronic theses so that access would be at least as good as for hard copy and to find a way to derive cataloguing information from the electronic text and avoid rekeying as much as possible. An important part of the study was the application of existing MARC format tagged record structures to the new system. Concludes with brief notes on the concerns of UMI regarding Internet access of electronic theses

    Abstract
Reports an Authority Control Project conducted by Griffith University, Queensland, Australia, in order to find a means to reduce the cost of authority control while maintaining, and preferably enhancing, accessibility of materials. Describes current authority control at Griffith University and discusses the mechanics of the project. Looks at the 4 stages of the project: defining the current situation; defining the future catalogue; examining the 7 options; and deciding on a solution
