    Abstract
    Multimedia, die Integration und interaktive Nutzung von Text, Bild, Bewegtbild und Ton, wird die Zukunft der Information, des Lernens und der Unterhaltung in hohem Maße bestimmen. Um zu verstehen, warum Multimedia eine wichtige Technologie ist, wie Multimedia funktioniert und was es einem selbst bringt, muß man kein EDV-Experte sein.     Abstract

    Abstract
    Seit der 1983 in zweiter Auflage erschienenen 'Katalogkunde: Formalkataloge und formale Ordnungsmethoden' hat sich durch die elektronische Datenverarbeitung die Arbeit im Bereich der Katalogisierung einschneidend verändert. Einerseits ist ein gewisser Entwicklungsprozeß noch nicht abgeschlossen (Regelwerke, Datenformate, Einbindung in den allgemeinen Informations- und Kommunikationsprozeß), andererseits ist das Wissen sowohl um konventionelle als auch um elektronische Kataloge auch in 'unsicheren Zeiten' nicht verzichtbar. Entsprechend versteht sich die Einführung als Hilfe für Unterricht, Fortbildung und Praxis in Zeiten des Umbruchs und der Entwicklung. Sie möge deshalb auch denen dienen, die nicht unmittelbar mit der Katalogisierung zu tun haben, aber Zusammenhänge erkennen wollen und Entscheidungen zu treffen haben

    Abstract
    Das Internet entwickelt sich zunehmend zu einem Medium, das prinzipiell jedem Informationen aus allen Bereichen zugänglich macht, egal, ob es sich um Themen wie Recycling, Fussballbundesliga, Geldanlage oder Urlaubsreisen handelt. Durch die Fülle der zu durchsuchenden Daten übersteigt der Zeitaufwand für die Prüfung und Auswertung der Daten jedoch häufig den eigentlichen Nutzen der gesuchten Information. Genau hier setzt dieses Buch an, indem es systematisch die wichtigsten Hilfsmittel für die Informationssuche im Internet auf ihre Leistungsfähigkeit und Eignung bei der Suche beschreibt und bewertet. Hierzu haben sowohl die Öffnung für private und kommerzielle Anwender als auch die Entwicklung multimedialer Informationssysteme beigetragen. Zur Nutzung der meisten Dienste kann ferner kostenlose Software für DOS und Windows eingesetzt werden. Hans-Lothar Hase beschreibt zunächst einführend, wie der Enduser auf die Datenautobahn gelangt.
