    Abstract
    In Wien geboren, vor den Nazis nach London emigriert, dort zunächst Mitarbeiter, dann von 1959 bis 1976 Direktor des 'Warburg-Instituts für Kunstwissenschaften', gehört der heute 85jährige Ernst H. Gombrich zu den einflußreichsten Kunsthistorikern. Sein Buch 'Die Geschichte der Kunst' ist ein von Laien wie Fachleuten geschätzter Longseller.     Nur weniges verändert unser Alltagsleben stärker als neue Entwicklungen in Wissenschaft und Technik - von der Stereoanlage und Flugreisen über PC und Internet bis zur Ultraschalldiagnostik und zum "Genetischen Fingerabdruck". Viele Neuerungen in Politik und Gesellschaft sind Reaktionen darauf. Der technische und gesellschaftliche Fortschritt geht dennoch mit gravierenden Fehlentwicklungen einher. Umweltbelastungen, steigender Ressourcenverbrauch und eine hohe Arbeitslosigkeit stellen die herkömmlichen Mechanismen der Industriegesellschaft in Frage

    "Wissen ist mehr als bloße Information. Seit der Karriere des Begriffs Informationsgesellschaft wird dieser Unterschied wieder sehr bewußt. Nur unter ganz bestimmten Umständen kann aufgenommene und verarbeitete Information zu Wissen kondensieren. Diese Umstände sind zu einem Teil von der individuellen Geschichte des Einzelnen abhängig. Zu einem sehr bedeutenden Teil sind sie aber auch von den sozialen Strukturen, kulturellen Umgebungen und somit von den gesellschaftspolitischen Rahmenbedingungen abhängig. Dazu gehören beispielsweise die Arten der Wissensvermittlung in Familie und Schulen, die pädagogischen Methoden, die Hochschulstruktur (Elite- oder Massenuniversität), Lehrpläne und Curricula etc." "Ist die Wissensgesellschaft das Ziel, dann ist auch ein neues, umfassenderes Verständnis von Wissenschaft notwendig. Während in der modernen Wissenschaft "wissenschaftliches" Wissen sehr verkürzt als lediglich "rationales" Faktenwissen wahrgenommen wird, muss die Wissensgesellschaft Wissen in all seinen Formen wahrnehmen. Auch soziale Kompetenz und moralisch-ethisches Wissen stellen Wissen dar. Alle Wissensformen bestimmen gemeinsam den Lebensstil des Einzelnen und befähigen ihn zum Handeln. Der Einzelne wird immer häufiger mit Problemen konfrontiert, deren Lösung es erfordert, dass er flexibel auf verschiedene Wissensformen zurückgreifen kann.     Bei den Fragen, was allen Menschen gemeinsam ist und wie sie sich unterscheiden, läßt sich im Verlauf der Geschichte ein Dreischritt ausmachen: von einer platonischen These über eine romantische Gegenthese zu der gegenwärtigen, von der Humanbiologie wie den Sprachwissenschaften nahegelegten Synthese.
    Nach einer »platonisch« zu nennenden These, die interkulturell weit verbreitet ist, haben es alle Menschen im wesentlichen mit denselben Themen und Problemen zu tun. Nur deren Ausdrucksformen variieren von Kultur zu Kultur. Zu einer Verständigung kommt man, wenn man »zu den Sachen selbst« zurückgeht und von den verschiedenen Worthülsen absieht. Nach der romantischen Gegenthese sind Inhalt und Form einer Sache, Bedeutung und Ausdruck und ebenso Text und Kontext einer Rede nicht unabhängig voneinander. Man kann sich nicht das eine ohne das andere aneignen. Eine Verständigung ist nur innerhalb ein und derselben Lebensform und Kultursprache möglich. Untereinander sind die verschiedenen Lebensformen »inkommensurabel« und die sprachlich determinierten Kulturen im Wesentlichen nicht ineinander übersetzbar.
    Nach der sich heute aufdrängenden Synthese gibt es neben ereignisgeschichtlich bedingten Lebensformen, Denkweisen und Ausdrucksformen, die für die einzelnen Kulturen charakteristisch zu sein scheinen, solche, die entwicklungsgeschichtlich bedingt allen Menschen gemeinsam sind. Die Verständigung zwischen den Kulturen wird durch die menschliche Fähigkeit zum Perspektivenwechsel ermöglicht, die für die Verständigung innerhalb ein und derselben Kultur (zwischen ihren diversen Regionen und desgleichen zwischen ihren verschiedene Standpunkte vertretenden Individuen) um nichts weniger erforderlich ist. Zusammen mit der klassischen Ganzheitsvorstellung von kompakten, homogen strukturierten »Kulturlereisen« ist auch das Vico- Prinzip der Hermeneutik revisionsreif Nach diesem verstehen Menschen nur, was sie selber machen können. Von ihrer kontingenten biologischen Natur her sind Menschen jedoch fähig, mehr zu verstehen>als sie selber spontan und kreativ zu schaffen vermögen.

    Abstract
    Einen Großteil der mit Hypertexte verbundenen Programmatik könnte man als das 'Externalisierungs-Postulat' bezeichnen, d.h. die Erwartung, daß es besser sei, implizite Bezüge und Verweise in einem Text (oder komplexerem Material) explizit als 'links' zu verdeutlichen und sie damit dem Leser als weiteren, fortführenden oder konterkarierenden Stoff anzubieten. Am Beispiel des 'Flusser-Hypertextes', einer Entwicklung des 'Projekts Elektronisches Buch (PEB)', wird zunächst gezeigt, zu welcher Unübersichtlichkeit die Explizierung aller textlich angelegten Verweise führen würde.     Abstract
    Ausgehend von alltäglichen und wissenschaftlichen Sprachgebräuchen, Information mit und ohne Bedeutung und Geltung anzunehmen, werden auf der Grundlage eines explizierten philosophischen Minimalkonsenses (1) die Technisierung und (2) die Naturalisierung des Informationsbegriffs dargestellt. In einer Kritik technischer (Rechner, Schallplatte) und naturwissenschaftlicher (Hirnforschung, Genetik) Beispiele werden Geltung und Semantik informationsbegrifflicher Beschreibungen diskutiert und naturalistische Fehlschlüsse festgestellt. Anschließend wird eine methodisch-kulturalistische Informationstheorie über Aufforderungsdialoge und Forderungen nach Invarianz bezüglich Sprecher-, Hörer- und Darstellungsvertauschung vorgetragen, die bei einer pragmatischen Bewertung des Gelingens sprachlicher Kommunikation beginnt und über Kriterien gelingender technischer Substitution solcher Leistungen für Mensch-Maschine-Verhältnisse Fälle überflüssiger oder falscher von nicht überflüssigen oder wahren informationsbegrifflichen Beschreibungen in Natur- und Technikwissenschaften unterscheidet

    Abstract
    Die Technisierung des Lebens schreitet voran. Einen wesentlichen Anteil daran hat der wachsende Einfluß der Informatik auf die Biotechnologie, die den menschlichen Körper zu einem 'informationsverarbeitenden System' stilisiert. Nach diesem Modell kann das Leben einfach umprogrammiert und das Schicksal eines Menschen vorhergesagt werden. Konstruktivistische Wissenschaftskritik zeigt die gesellschaftliche Prägung naturwissenschaftlicher Erkenntnis und kann so z.B. Biologismen offenlegen. Der Konstruktivismus kann aber in eine Teufelskreis führen, solange man Modelle mit anderen (neuen) Modellen kritisiert. Dies wird im folgenden anhand des genetischen Codes aus einer feministischen Perspektive gezeigt

    Abstract
    Dieser Beitrag behandelt - aus einer interdisziplinären Perspektive - die Bedeutung der Interkulturalität für die Gestaltung in und mit der Informatik im Zeitalter zunehmender Globalisierung. In diesem Zusammenhang wird, um die Rolle der Kultur in der Kommunikation zu verstehen, auf linguistisch-empirische Untersuchungen zur schriftlichen Kommunikation eingegangen und ihre Brauchbarkeit für die Gestaltung hinterfragt. Anschließend wird der Frage nach Möglichkeiten und Grenzen des interkulturellen Verstehens und Dialoges in der Philosophie nachgegangen, um daraus Rechtfertigungen für die interkulturelle Orientierung in der Informatik zu erarbeiten. Schließlich werden aktuelle informatische Entwicklungen in interkulturellen Kontexten diskutiert.

    Abstract
    Der österreichische Computerpionier Heinz Zemanek hat mit dem Lötkolben in der Hand begonnen, Computer zu bauen. Er hat die Entwicklung des Computers aktiv miterlebt - von der Relais-Additionsschaltung bis zum Halbleiter-Chip, von der Lochstreifen-Befehlseingabe bis zur formalen Definition der Programmiersprachen. Er hat kybernetische Modelle mit Studenten und Mitarbeitern gebaut und programmiert. Gemeinsam mit seinem Kollegen Konrad Zuse gilt er als Begründer der modernen Datenverarbeitung in Europa. 1954 baute er das Mailüfterl einen volltransistorisierten Binär-Dezimal-Rechenautomaten", der aus 3.000 Transistoren, 5.000 Dioden und 30 km Draht bestand. Mit einer Breite von 4 Metern, einer Höhe von 2,5 Metern und einer Tiefe von 50 Zentimetern war das Ungetüm gegenüber den damaligen Röhrenrechnern klein. Auch mit kybernetischen Grundmodellen wie der "Maus im Labyrinth", der "künstlichen Schildkröte" oder dem "Homöostat" betrat er Neuland.
