    Abstract
Presents a sceptical review of the past 12 years of development of electronic information and looks forward to the next 12. On the positive side, 12 years of development mean that we now have: much more information available; better presentation of that information; better access to it, on balance; and a better understanding of information value. On the negative side, we now have: more expectations than we can deliver; a belief that a simple 'point and click' interface is available information; overselling of information; and new players threatening some of the older ones. Issues involving change in the future include: information ownership and users', authors' and distribuors' rights; new methods for managing information; dealing with information overload and filtering information for users; managing information in multiple modes; and organizing the payment for information delivered in multiple modes and through multiple channels

    Abstract
Library science has no strong scientific image bacause it lacks a consistent theoretical framework. The key element is information, information is knowlegde, and library science is knowledge in the service of society. Society itself is sustained by development, information and ideology, with information as the transforming element. Because of the universal need for information, library science is increasingly valued. The great problem is to delimit the object of study because of its vast area of application. The goals of library science are utopian, bound up with making information available to everyone in the best possible way. But although developments suchg as the Internet seem able to make this possible, in reality computerised information is available only to a minority

    Abstract
Information science is currently dominated by 2 paradigms: one emphasises information retrieval as a technological process, based on natural sciences; the other derives from the social sciences, focusing on the information process as a communication act. The first is based on the structure of atoms, the second as people as collective actors. In Brazil the social science approach predominates, chiefly through the influence of 3 currents of thought: American liberalism; German social democracy and French post-structuralism. The ideas of the chief exponents of these theories have been developed by Brazilian researchers, introducing elements from political economy, quantum physics, linguistics, social science and epistemology. This interdisciplinarity is the key to unity in information science

    Abstract
Criticizes the current processes of information management, with the objective of arriving at a new concept of the electronic document. Discusses problems of human language in the context of information management. Examines the problem of information from the point of view of the structure of knowledge, by analysing dysfunction in current processes of information management. Proposes a model of knowledge nearer to the human mind called 'document hypertext'. A combined interface of information management id also applicable in studies of hardware, graphic interfaces and metaphors of visualization of information. The current excessive fragmentation and artificial treatment of information structures could be avoided by simplifying of processes of information management and creating integral interfaces that bring information systems closer to the user

    Abstract
The cognitive approach in the retrieval and communication of informatio, as well as in librarianship and information science gained importance in the 1970's. Today it is present in subject fields, as well as in studies of users, and aspects of information work. It has generated the formation of the cognitve paradigm, in many scientific disciplines. In the framework of Kuhn's concept of paradigm, it is evident that librarianship and information science are on the pre-paradigmatic level. However, some authors mention the existence of at least 2 paradigms in library and information science, the physical and the cognitive. Presents a historical overview of the cognitive oriented research works of Brookes, De Mey, Belkin, Ingwersen and others to provide an insight into the development of library and information science thought

    Abstract
Although the 'information poor' are already present, the arrival of a much greater gap between the 'information poor' and 'information rich' is forecast in the book: Sovereign individual, by J.D. Davidson and W. Rees-Mogg. Concludes that, if the events forecast in the book come about, there will not be an information society but an unacceptable society

    Abstract
Within dynamic organizations, information systems often fail to adapt to changing requirements and structures. The book presents a different view of IS provision, based on end-user information systems construction, as a means of avoiding many of the recognized problems. Adopting a philosophy of constructivism, emphasizing psychological and social factors in information construction, the authors examine different types of systems across natural and social sciences

    Abstract
Navigation is a limited metaphor for hypermedia and website use that potentially constraints our understanding of human-computer interaction. Traces the emergence of the navigation metaphor and the emprical analysis of navigation measures in usability evaluation before suggesting an alternative concept to consider: shape. The shape concept affords a richer analytic tool for considering humans' use of digital documents and invokes social level analysis of meaning that are shared among discourse communities who both produce and consume the information resources
