    Abstract
    Based on a decade's experience with the Alexandria Digital Library Project, seven issues are presented that arise in creating georeferenced digital libraries, and that appear to be intrinsic to the problem of creating any library-like information system that operates on georeferenced and geospatial resources. The first and foremost issue is providing discovery of georeferenced resources. Related to discovery are the issues of gazetteer integration and specialized ranking of search results. Strong data typing and scalability are implementation issues. Providing spatial context is a critical user interface issue. Finally, sophisticated resource access mechanisms are necessary to operate on geospatial resources.

    Abstract
    Die Deutsche Zentralbibliothek für Medizin (ZB MED) hat als Anbieterin von Suchportalen in den Lebenswissenschaften eine lange Tradition. Mit LIVIVO steht seit 2015 ein neues Produkt zur Verfügung, das erstmals das gesamte Fächerspektrum von ZB MED abdeckt: Medizin, Gesundheit, Ernährungs-, Umwelt- und Agrarwissenschaften. In der Anfangsphase von LIVIVO stand der Aufbau eines modernen Fachportals mit einer neuen Suchmaschine im Vordergrund, das die Funktionalitäten der Vorgängerportale miteinander vereinigt. Dabei wurde eine neue Weboberfläche entwickelt, die sich durch eine hohe Benutzerfreundlichkeit und ein responsives Webdesign auszeichnet. Das große Potential für die Entwicklung von LIVIVO liegt im Bereitstellen von Suchdiensten basierend auf den mehr als 55 Millionen Metadatensätzen. Aktuelle Arbeiten von ZB MED beschäftigen sich nun damit, automatische Schnittstellen für Suchservices anzubieten. Gleichzeitig wird mit dem Aufbau des ZB MED-Knowledge-Environment eine unverzichtbare Datenbasis für Forschungsarbeiten an ZB MED geschaffen. Dieser Aufsatz wird auf die aktuellen Herausforderungen eines wissenschaftlichen Portals am Beispiel von LIVIVO eingehen, Lösungsansätze skizzieren und davon ausgehend die Entwicklungslinien vorzeichnen.

    Abstract
    BASE (https://www.base-search.net) ermöglicht seit Anfang April eine Suche nach über 90 Millionen Dokumenten, deren Metadaten von über 4.200 Dokumentenservern (Repositories) wissenschaftlicher Institutionen weltweit bereit gestellt werden. Damit ist BASE nach Google Scholar die größte Suchmaschine für wissenschaftliche, frei im Internet verfügbare Dokumente. Für über 30 Mio. Dokumente, die in BASE zu finden sind, können wir aufgrund von Informationen in den Metadaten einen Open-Access-Status ausweisen, insgesamt schätzen wir den Open-Access-Anteil derzeit auf 60%. Über ein Boosting-Verfahren werden Nachweise zu Open-Access-Dokumenten bevorzugt angezeigt, ebenso ist ein gezieltes Suchen unter Berücksichtigung verschiedener Lizenz- und Rechteangaben möglich. Der BASE-Index steht über verschiedene Schnittstellen zahlreichen anderen kommerziellen und nicht-kommerziellen Discovery-Systemen, Suchmaschinen, Datenbankanbietern, Fachbibliotheken und Entwicklern zur Nachnutzung zur Verfügung.
