    Abstract
    Internet und E-Business gehören heute zum wirtschaftlichen Alltag. Beu näherer Betrachtung fällt auf, dass weniger als die Hälfte der traditionellen KMU in Europa einen Internet-Zugang besitzt. Paradoxerweise besteht bei sehr vielen traditionellen KMU ein großes Interesse, dieses Potenzial nutzbringend zu integrieren. Ein Problem ist die Inhomogenität der Zielgruppe KMU, die sowohl Dienstleister als auch Fördermittelgeber zu schaffen macht. Maßgeschneiderte Lösungen für KMU bedeuten etwas ganz anderes als Lösungen für Großunternehmen. Der Beitrag zeigt einige dieser Schwachstellen auf und demonstriert an einem Beispiel, wie es funktionieren könnte

    Abstract
    Es liegt eine Vielzahl von Vorschlägen darüber vor, was unter "Informationswirtschaft" verstanden werden soll. Tendenzen zu einer Einigung sind nicht in Sicht. Teilweise unterscheiden sich die Definitionen durch ihre unterschiedliche Reichweite, so dass die eine Definition von "Informationswirtschaft" als Teilmenge einer weitergehenden Definition von "Informationswirtschaft" gesehen werden kann. Beispielsweise versteht das Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Arbeit (BMWA) unter Informationswirtschaft die Summe der Teilbranchen "Telekommunikation, Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik, Elektronische Informationsdienste und E-Commerce". Hingegen sollte nach dem früheren Verband für Informationswirtschaft (VIW) unter "Informationswirtschaft" nur die Branche "Elektronische Informationsdienste" gesehen werden. Es gibt aber auch Definitionen von "Informationswirtschaft", die über kaum oder keine gemeinsamen Schnittmengen verfügen. So weist Wolfgang G. Stock darauf hin, dass sich die Definitionen von "Informationswirtschaft" in den Studiengängen der FH Darmstadt ("zeitgemäße Spielart von Dokumentation bzw. Spezialbibliothek") und der TU Karlsruhe (vor allem Informatik, aber auch wirtschafts- und rechtswissenschaftliche Fragen) völlig voneinander unterscheiden. Auch dürfte es wichtige Probleme geben, für die es aus systematischen Gründen nahe liegt, sie der "Informationswirtschaft" zuzuordnen, die jedoch von keiner der gängigen Definitionsvorschläge erfasst werden. Darunter fallen zum Beispiel die wirtschaftlichen Probleme der Informationsgenerierung.

    Abstract
    Dieses Kapitel beginnt mit einer kurzen Einführung in e-commerce und e-business. Dabei vergleicht es die "früher" getroffenen Voraussagen mit der aktuellen Situation, und leitet daraus Herausforderungen auf technischer und wirtschaftlicher Ebene ab. Einige dieser Herausforderungen können mittels des Semantic Web beantwortet werden: z. B. das Problem der Informationsüberflutung für den Endkonsumenten, der Bereich der Interoperabilität und der intelligenten Kooperation. Dies wird mit einem konkreten Beispiel aus dem Bereich des e-tourism als der sich am raschesten entwickelnde c-commerce Sektor demonstriert.
