Abstract

Am 1. Oktober 2000 fiel der offizielle Startschuss für ein neues Projekt im Rahmen der Digitalen Bibliothek. Ab sofort sollen die Vorteile der DigiBib nicht mehr nur staatlichen Hochschulen, sondern auch Öffentlichen Bibliotheken zurVerfügung stehen. Drei Öffentliche Bibliotheken, die Stadt- und Landesbibliothek Dortmund, die StadtBibliothek Köln und die Stadtbüchereien Düsseldorf, haben sich entschlossen, als Pilotanwender in einem auf zweieinhalb Jahre angelegten Projekt für ihre Nutzer einen Zugang zu diesem Such- und Informationswerkzeug einzurichten. Der StLB Dortmund steht ihr Zugang seit Mitte März zur Verfügung, während die StB Köln ihren seit Mitte Juni nutzen kann. Beide Bibliotheken stellen ihren Kunden je zwei PCs ausschließlich für die Benutzung der DigiBib zur Verfügung. Natürlich kann die DigiBib auch von den anderen Internet-Arbeitsplätzen aus genutzt werden. Die Stadtbüchereien Düsseldorf verfügen derzeit (Juli 2001) nur über einen Testzugang. Dies wird sich mit der Fertigstellung des Web-OPAC, spätestens aber im Herbst diesen Jahres ändern. Auf Basis der gewonnenen Daten und Erfahrungen soll letztendlich allen Öffentlichen Bibliotheken die Teilnahme an der DigiBib ermöglicht werden.

Abstract

Vom 3. bis 5. Februar 2004 veranstaltete die Universitätsbibliothek Bielefeld die 7. Internationale Bielefeld Konferenz mit dem Titel »Thinking beyond Digital Libraries - Designing the Information Strategy for the Next Decade« in der Bielefelder Stadthalle. Die Konferenz führt das bekannte Bielefeld Kolloquium fort, das sich seit 1992 im Zweijahresrhythmus innovativen Technologien, Produkten und technischen Dienstleistungen des Bibliotheks-, Informations- und Kommunikationswesens widmet. Die 7. Konferenz, erstmalig organisiert vom neuen Direktor der Universitätsbibliothek Bielefeld, Dr. Norbert Lossau, führt selbstverständlich den für Bielefeld traditionellen technologischen Schwerpunkt fort und verstärkt nun die Ausrichtung auf wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken. Reg Carr (Oxford University Libraries) und Hans Geleijnse (University of Tilburg), die für das Programmkomitee gewonnen werden konnten, trugen wesentlich zum internationalen Profil der Veranstaltung bei. Namhafte Redner aus Großbritannien, den USA, Australien, Norwegen, den Niederlanden und Deutschland referierten überwiegend in englischer Sprache über ihre Erfahrungen aus Universität und Wirtschaft und stellten sich der Diskussion mit den fast 500 Teilnehmern aus über 30 Ländern. Die Konferenz beschäftigte sich schwerpunktmäßig mit mehreren Themen: Vorrangig ging es um die strategische Positionsbestimmung und Zukunftsorientierung für wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken und ihre Hochschulen. Profilbildung geschieht mittels Kundenorientierung und neuen Serviceleistungen-was in engem Zusammenhang steht mit dem wissenschaftlichen Publikationsprozess im Internet, dem Zugang zu und der vernetzten Nutzung von Online-Informationen sowie dem Vermitteln von Informationskompetenz. Während der Konferenz wurden jeweils die technischen, sozialen, ökonomischen und politischen Facetten beleuchtet.
