    Die vorliegende Arbeit wurde als Hausarbeit am Institut für Bibliothekswissenschaft im Rahmen eines Postgradualen Fernstudiums an der Humboldt Universität im Frühjahr 2001 angefertigt. Der erste Teil dieser Arbeit, der sich mit cross-searchen beschäftigt, wird hier in gekürzter Fassung veröffentlicht.
