- Abstract
- Domain analysis was first used 15 years ago as one of the most important techniques for software reuse. Even today, new techniques appear every year, and different authors propose different domain representation structures to represent and store all the different software components and the relationships among them. These relationships among components are the kernel of the domain semantics. In this report, a set of techniques and tools is presented regarding mathematical, statistical, and neural fields that, when linked together, enable semiautomatically building domain representations and storing them in a thesaurus structure of software components. Thesaurus structures, widely used in information science, are presented as the domain-modeling key concept, due to their higher automation possibilities compared with previous structures. New metrics to evaluate the quality, consistency, and completeness of the domain model obtained through this technique are also presented.

- Abstract
- Presents a state of the art review of the literature of expert systems in library and information science, involving exhaustive searches of all major LIS CD-ROM databases (LISA, ERIC, LiLi, INSPEC etc.) and bibliographies appended in review articles. The search retrieved 679 references, comprising 362 periodical articles, 180 conference proceedings, 63 books articles, 28 theses and 46 monographs. The growth of the literature peaked between 1989 and 1990 and subsequently declined after 1992. Over 1/3 (287) covered intelligent front ends and interfaces for online searching and retrieval, followed by applications in reference service (113), classification, indexing and abstracting (86) and cataloguing (7). The most productive periodicals comprised 6 titles, of which 'Information processing and management' topped the lsit: 43 authors were found to contribute between 5 and 35 articles each, hence contributing 32,19% of the total contributors. 382 of the publications were single author works, 172 were by 2 authors, 72 were by 3 authors and 49 were by 4 or more authors. Only 161 titles were expressive enough to reveal both the name and function of systems being developed

Metodologia: Utiliza a pesquisa documental nos guias de referência dos modelos de dados utilizados para representar os tesauros na web. Resultados: os modelos de dados têm sido utilizados para representar os termos e suas variações linguísticas, os relacionamentos entre grupos e subgrupos de conceitos, numa perspectiva intra-vocabulários, e os relacionamentos entre conceitos de vocabulários distintos, numa perspectiva inter-vocabulários. Conclusões: O uso do Simple Knowledge Organization System, e dos seus modelos de extensão contribuem para uma melhor estruturação dos conceitos em tesauros. Os modelos de extensão são apropriados para a representação dos relacionamentos de equivalência compostos, ou para a estruturação de grupos e subgrupos de conceitos em tesauros.

- Abstract
- Describes a design for ideal online subject and author thesauri. The subject thesaurus is a graphic thesaurus with a semantic network, so the spread activation assumption can be applied. The hierarchical relationship is broken into 3 specific relations, so automated inheritance can be performed. The associated relationship is separated with several specific relationships, so spatial recognition can function well. This thesaurus will provide variety and complexity to deal with uncertainty and will be a user constructed, user enhanced hyperthesaurus that serves as an analogue of the human mind. The author thesaurus is designed to show all authors which are alphabetically adjacent to a given author as well as other authors whose subject area is close to that of the given author
