    Abstract
Most of the criteria proposed to date for the evaluation of OPACs focus on evaluation of their retrieval function. Argues that the storage function is more important because the quality of information retrieval systems is dependent on the quality of stored information as well as the description and depth of indexing of stored information. States that OPACs should therefore be evaluated from the perspectives of both storage and retrieval functions. Examines 4 studies on criteria for evaluating OPACs and suggests a new evaluation framework based on the work of C.R. Hildreth

    Abstract
Library OPACs have long been the gateways between users and information. They present to users the achievements of library automation, and are the most widely available automated retrieval systems and the first that many user encounter. Current trends in OPAC design are toward a user oriented, individual information service which can meet the different needs of users with a variety of background and interests. Compared with the rather inactive, short term and general information service of conventional systems, this type of system focuses on active, long term and personalized service. Proposes a framework for the design of such an OPAC and discusses some recent developments in personalized information service

    Abstract
Presents a study questioning catalogue users at Emporia State Univ. about their experiences and their evaluation of NOTIS in order to access how patrons felt about the catalogue and how well they used it. The study focused on the instruction offered by 59 randomly selected NOTIS libraries. Responses were solicited concerning the university or college, the library, and training methods for OPAC users. With the information gained through both parts, the library instruction program and information regarding NOTIS at White Library could be evaluated and modified

    Abstract
Provides information on the characteristics of 5 online catalogue systems in 5 academic libraries in the austin, Texas and North Texas, USA, and their use by Korean students at University of North Texas, USA, in order to assist system managers in the selection of online catalogues. Proposes recommendations when designing, adopting, or managing a new online catalogue system. Topics for further studies on the characteristics of online systems and their use are also suggested

    Abstract

    Abstract
The degree of variability in the percentage of subject searching in an online public access catalog (OPAC) among branch libraries of one university was studied. A full semester's worth of transactions was analyzed, not sampled. The time units used were hour of the day, day of the week, and week of the semester. The findings show that subject searching varies from a low of 22% to a high of 74% over the hours of a day. Variability for the days of the week ranged from 17% to 64%, and for the weeks of the semester variability ranged from 12% to 70%. Valuable management information on the utilization of the OPAC within each brach library and among all the branch libraries is provided through numerous charts and graphs.

    Abstract
This article first compares and contrasts the essential, fundamental differences between traditional and digital information mediums. It then reexamines the role of the online public access catalog (OPAC), refines the definition of library's catalog, and advocates the addition of Internet resources within the OPAC. Next, the article describes the building of the Alex Catalog, a catalog of Internet resources in the in the form of MARC records. Finally, this article outlines a process of integrating the futher inclusion of other Internet resources into OPACs as well as some of the obstacles such a process manifests.

    Abstract
Since 1985 the university has had computerized cataloguing and a network of cataloguing centres. The library uses SISIS online, with 2 different OPAC systems. A BS2000 dialogue cooperative now includes all branches, resulting in unified and rational cataloguing development. The catalogue OPAC system ELIS (Erlangen Library Information System) developed originally as an inhouse informal system. SISIS incorporates a loan system and is stored online by BVB
