- Abstract
- Mehr und mehr Öffentliche Bibliotheken in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland stellen auf elektronische Datenverarbeitung um. Schon bei der Ersterfassung der Bestände bzw. Konversion der bestehenden Zettelkataloge können Fremddaten einen entscheidenden Beitrag zu Zeit- und Kostenersparnis in der Bibliothek leisten. Doch auch bei der laufenden Arbeit kann durch Fremddatenübernahme die bibliothekarische Arbeit in Erwerbung und Katalogisierung erleichtert werden. Hierzu müssen aber Voraussetzungen inhaltlicher, formaler, und DV-technischer Art bei Anbietern und Nutzern der Daten erfüllt werden, die für ein ökonomisches Verfahren unabdingbar sind. Datenformat, Zeichensatz, formale und inhaltliche Erschließung der bibliographischen Information sind Beispiele für diese Voraussetzungen. Abschließend werden reale und auch einige potentielle Anbieter von Fremddaten für Öffentliche Bibliotheken in der Bundesrepublik vorgestellt und die Nutzungsmöglichkeiten ihrer Angebote diskutiert

- Abstract
- Der Begriff 'Informationsmanagement' hat sich sowohl in der Wissenschaft als auch in der Praxis eingebürgert. Viele benutzen ihn, doch wage ich zu behaupten, daß viele, die ihn benutzen, sich nicht über seine Definition einig sind. Je nachdem, in welchem Sinne der Management- und Informationsbegriff definiert und ausgelegt wird, lassen sich unterschiedliche Bedeutungen des zusammengesetzten Begriffs Informationsmanagement analysieren. Dies ist der Hauptgrund dafür, weshalb Informationsmanagement in unterschiedlichen Disziplinen (jedoch auch situationsbedingt) begrifflich differenziert verwendet wird und keine allgemein gültige Definition vorliegt. Aus diesem Grunde ist es dringend notwendig, den Begriff bzw. die Inhalte des Informationsmanagement (IM) zu analysieren und zu beschreiben; dabei sollte dies aus informationswissenschaftlicher Sicht und nicht wie so oft einseitig aus der Sicht der DV-Manager bzw. Informatiker geschehen. Dies gilt besonders deshalb, als die beiden letzteren unter dem Begriff häufig nur das Management der Datenverarbeitung bzw. der Informationstechnologien im Unternehmen verstehen. Für uns Fachleute, die andere Bereiche der Informationsarbeit im Unternehmen abdecken (wie etwa den Bereich Information und Dokumentation, IuD) und die in der Praxis informations- und kommunikationswissenschaftliche Konzepte umsetzen, ist dieser Informatik-geprägte IM-Begriff unbefriedigend und auch unvollständig, da er unsere Arbeit nicht integriert. Die vorliegende Arbeit hat deshalb das Ziel, eine eigene informationswissenschaftliche Begriffsbeschreibung zu skizzieren, wie sie auch in der unternehmerischen Praxis sinnvoll ist. Dabei kann auf bisherige, umfangreiche Lehr- und Forschungsarbeiten der Informationswissenschaft zurückgegriffen werden

- Abstract
- Der 'Ort ohne Raum' ist eine Galerie im WWW, die versucht, die Nutzungsstruktur des WWW mit meist (hyper-)textueller Information zu interaktiven Anwendungen zu erweitern, in die der Anwender selbst eingreifen kann. Das Ziel ist nicht eine einfach Reproduktion des Konzeptes einer Galerie in einem anderen Medium, sondern die Spezifik des Mediums soll den Betrachter zu grundsätzlich anderen und erweiterten Interaktions-, Manipulations- und Navigationsmöglichkeiten führen. Der 'Ort ohne Raum' entsteht seit 1995 als Kooperationsprojekt zwischen den Fachbereichen Medienkunst der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig und der Abteilung für Automatische Sprachverarbeitung am Institut für Informatik der Universität Leipzig

- Abstract
- Videoanwendungen, die auf einzelne Segmente eines kodierten Mediums zugreifen, benötigen Informationen über die Struktur der Daten. Um diese Strukturinformation zu erhalten, müssen kodierte Videodaten geparst werden. Diese Informationen werden üblicherweise nicht persistent gehalten, was bei einem wiederholten Zugriff ineffizient ist. Dieser Artikel beschreibt die Integration eines MPEG-Parsers in ein erweiterbares Datenbankmanagementsystem. Dadurch werden Funktionen für den Zugriff auf inhaltsbezogene Daten wie auch grundlegende Funktionen zum Extrahieren von Datenströmen oder Dekodieren einzelner Bilder als Datenbankfuntionalität zur Verfügung gestellt. Dieses sogenannte MPEG-DataBlade bildet die Grundlage für zukünftige Erweiterungen eines MM-DBMS
