    Darin auch: "Crisscross Ziel des von der DFG geförderten Projekts ist die Schaffung eines multilingualen, thesaurusbasierten und benutzerorientierten Recherchevokabulars zu heterogen erschlossenen Dokumenten für die Nutzer des deutschen wissenschaftlichen Bibliothekswesens. Dazu werden die Sachschlagwörter der SWD mit den Notationen der Dewey Dezimalklassifikation verbunden sowie mit ihren Äquivalenten in LCSH und Rameau verknüpft. Im Berichtszeitraum wurde der Verlängerungsantrag bewilligt, der eine Laufzeit von 24 Monaten umfasst. Projektende ist jetzt ca. Januar 2010. In der Vergangenheit wurde der Schwerpunkt auf die Vergabe der DDC-Notationen für die Sachschlagwörter der SWD gelegt. Bisher nicht berücksichtigt wurden die Verknüpfungen der Sachschlagwörter mit den äquivalenten LCSH- und Rameau-Termen. Arbeitstechnische Mängel in der MACS-Datenbank (u.a. nicht aktuelle Datenbasis, Dubletten, fehlende Identifier) haben die Verlinkungsarbeit behindert und konnten im Berichtszeitraum in Zusammenarbeit mit den MACS-Partnern, insbesondere der Schweizerischen Nationalbibliothek, gelöst werden. Initiert wurde u.a. ein Update-Verfahren, das nun regelmäßig die Original-Thesauri und die vorhandenen Pärchen aktualisiert, so dass die konkrete Verlinkungsarbeit - unmittelbar in der LMI-Umgebung - demnächst beginnen kann."     Abstract
    This paper explains how MACS meets the challenge of multilingualism created by the new network environment. Based an the equality of languages and making use of work already carried out by the partners, the MACS project sets up equivalences between subject heading languages. It enables in this way, with a monolingual subject search, to retrieve all the pertinent documents held in catalogues in different languages. This process is very different from traditional translation; it frees the search language from the language of the catalogue and creates a multilingual dictionary of subject heading languages that has a promising future for various applications. The federative approach of networked cooperation has enabled the MACS team to set up a flexible and pragmatic solution to the problem of multilingual searching. The service aims to be fully operational in 2002, and may currently be tested an the Web.

    Abstract
    In line with the international flavour of the book, Patrice Landry looks at the multilingual problem. This chapter is mainly concerned with a review of MACS (Multilingual Access to Subjects); a project with the strategy of developing a Web-based link and search interface through which equivalents between three Subject Heading Languages can be created and maintained, and by which users can access online databases in the language of their choice. The three systems in the project are German, French and English language. With the dramatic spread of use of the Web, particularly in the Far East, such projects are going to be increasingly valuable and important.

    Abstract
    Shared authority files and cooperation in the development of national lists, both author and subject, have enabled libraries to share resources and improve access to their collections. As we move from national resource sharing to a more international approach, we face problems accessing catalogues in other languages. By creating links between existing subject heading languages (initially in French, German, and English), MACS (Multilingual Access to Subjects) allows users to carry out searches in major national library collections in Europe using subject headings in their own languages. An operational service will be available in 2004.

    Darin auch ein Abschnitt zu CrissCross: "Ziel des Projekts ist die Schaffung eines multilingualen, thesaurusbasierten und benutzerorientierten Recherchevokabulars zu heterogen erschlossenen Dokurrenten für die Nutzer des deutschen wissenschaftlichen Bibliothekswesens. Dazu werden die Sachschlagwörter der SWD mit den Notationen der Dewey Dezimalklassifikation verbunden sowie mit ihren Äquivalenten in LCSH und Rameau verknüpft. Das Projektende ist nach Verlängerung des Projektantrags April 2010. In dem Berichtszeitraum wurde die Vergabe von DDC-Notationen für SWD-Terme in dem Katalogisierungsclient WinIBW fortgeführt. Änderungen in dem Redaktionsverfahren der SWD, das im ONS-Projekt eingeführt worden ist, haben sich auf die Arbeitsweise und den Workflow des CrissCross-Projektes ausgewirkt und mussten entsprechend angepasst werden. Nach wie vor steht DNB in Kontakt mit den Betreibern der MACS-Datenbank, die als Arbeitsumgebung für die Verlinkung der multilingualen Terme genutzt werden soll. Im Berichtszeitraum wurden keine größeren IT-Aktivitäten notwendig. Ab April 2009 wird die eigentliche Verlinkungsarbeit beginnen und dann sind auch begleitende IT-Maßnahmen zu erwarten."

    Abstract
    The MACS (Multilingual access to subjects) project is one of the many projects that are currently exploring solutions to multilingual subject access to online catalogs. Its strategy is to develop a Web based link and search interface through which equivalents between three Subject Heading Languages: SWD/RSWK (Schlagwortnormdatei/Regeln für den Schlagwortkatalog) for German, RAMEAU (Repertoire d'Autorite-Matière Encyclopedique et Alphabetique Unifie) for French and LCSH (Library of Congress Subject Headings) for English can be created and maintained, and by which users can access online databases in the language of their choice. Factors that have lead to this approach will be examined and the MACS linking strategy will be explained. The trend to using mapping or linking strategies between different controlled vocabularies to create multilingual access challenges the traditional view of the multilingual thesaurus.

    Abstract
    Within the multilingual framework of the CrissCross project, MACS (Multilingual Access to Subjects) has continued its work. MACS has developed a prototype of mappings between three vocabularies: the LCSH (Library of Congress Subject Headings), RAMEAU (Répertoire d'autorité-matière encyclopédique et alphabétique unifié) and the SWD (Schlagwortnormdatei). A database with a Link Management System (LMI), which allows for an easy linking between English, French and German subject headings, was created. The database started working with headings from the disciplines sports and theatre, but by now headings from all other fields of knowledge have been included as well. In 2008-2010, equivalencies between English and French headings which had been produced by the Bibliothèque nationale de France have been completed with the most important German SWD topical terms. Thus, more than 50.000 trilingual links are now available and can be used in different retrieval scenarios. It is planned to use them in The European Library (TEL) in order to support multilingual searches over all European National Library collections. The article informs about the project workflow, methodology of mapping and future applications of MACS links.

    Abstract
    Am 21. und 22. April 2010 fand die 58. Sitzung der Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Verbundsysteme auf Einladung des Informationsverbund Deutschschweiz (IDS) in Zürich statt. Der folgende Bericht gibt einen Überblick über die gemeinsamen Aktivitäten der deutschsprachigen Verbünde aus Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz sowie eine Übersicht der aktuellen Arbeiten und Projekte der Mitglieder der AG Verbund mit Stand April 2010. Bericht u.a. über die Themenbereiche: Projekt Umstieg auf MARC21; GND; Normdateien und ONline-Schnittstelle; Kataloganreicherung; vascoda; Europeana.

    Darin auch: "CrissCross CrissCross ist ein von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) gefördertes und von der Fachhochschule Köln in Kooperation mit der Deutschen Nationalbibliothek (DNB) durchgeführtes Projekt, dessen Ziel darin besteht, ein multilinguales, thesaurusbasiertes und benutzergerechtes Recherchevokabular zu heterogen erschlossenen Dokumenten zu schaffen. Die zweite Komponente des CrissCross-Projektes, die Verlinkung der SWD mit RAMEAU und LCSH-Schlagwörtern, ist nun fertiggestellt. Ca. 50.000 SWD-Schlagwörter wurden in dem Linking Management Tool (LMI) von MACS mit RAMEAU/ LCSH-Pärchen verbunden. SWD-Änderungslieferungen werden für die Aktualisierung des Vokabulars bereitgestellt. Die Nutzung der Links in der DNB-Umgebung über Linked-Data-Verfahren ist zurzeit in der Planung. Die Verlinkung der DDC mit dem SWD-Schlagwort in dem Katalogisierungsclient WinIBW wird fortgeführt. Im Linked Data Service werden die im LMI verwalteten Links von einem SWD-Begriff zu LCSH und RAMEAU als RDF-Relationen veröffentlicht werden.

    Abstract
    Subject-based retrieval in distributed resources is a current problem in online searches for bibliographic references. Building portals to similar resources is only the ferst step, the subsequent navigation via different search interfaces presents certain difficulties. To make retrieval easier it is necessary to adapt these different resources. Potential approaches (standardisation as opposed to "cross-walks") and methods (automated as opposed to intellectual effort) will be discussed. This includes a Brief appraisal of the future of work with multilingual terminology: - The "classical" approach (Multilingual Thesauri), - The "Internet" approach (linking) Recent developments in mono- and multilingual environments will be presented (MACS, CARMEN, Economics Crosswalk).

    Abstract
    Work in establishing interoperability between Subject Heading Languages (SHLs) in Europe is fairly recent and much work is still needed before users can successfully conduct subject searches across information resources in European libraries. Over the last 25 years many subject heading lists were created or developed from existing ones. Obstacles for effective interoperability have been progressively lifted which has paved the way for interoperability projects to achieve some encouraging results. This paper will look at interoperability approaches in the area of subject indexing tools and will present a short overview of the development of European SHLs. It will then look at the conditions necessary for effective and comprehensive interoperability using the method of linking subject headings, as used by the »Multilingual Access to Subject Headings project« (MACS).
