- Abstract
- Eine ganze Anzahl von Bibliotheken in Europa befaßt sich mit der Entwicklung von Internet Subject Gateways - einer Serviceleistung, die den Nutzern helfen soll, qualitativ hochwertige Internetquellen zu finden. Subject Gateways wie SOSIG (The Social Science Information Gateway) sind bereits seit einigen Jahren im Internet verfügbar und stellen eine Alternative zu Internet-Suchmaschinen wie AltaVista und Verzeichnissen wie Yahoo dar. Bezeichnenderweise stützen sich Subject Gateways auf die Fertigkeiten, Verfahrensweisen und Standards der internationalen Bibliothekswelt und wenden diese auf Informationen aus dem Internet an. Dieses Referat will daher betonen, daß Bibliothekare/innen idealerweise eine vorherrschende Rolle im Aufbau von Suchservices für Internetquellen spielen und daß Information Gateways eine Möglichkeit dafür darstellen. Es wird einige der Subject Gateway-Initiativen in Europa umreißen und die Werkzeuge und Technologien beschreiben, die vom Projekt DESIRE entwickelt wurden, um die Entwicklung neuer Gateways in anderen Ländern zu unterstützen. Es wird auch erörtert, wie IMesh, eine Gruppe für Gateways aus der ganzen Welt eine internationale Strategie für Gateways anstrebt und versucht, Standards zur Umsetzung dieses Projekts zu entwickeln

- Abstract
- Die SfB ist eine Aufstellungssystematik, die aus 31 Fachgebieten und mehreren Formal- und Sachschlüsseln besteht. Gerade wegen der differenzierten Gliederung von Bibliotheksbeständen sowie dem Bestreben der Bibliotheken, Klassen zu reduzieren, ist die SfB für die sachliche Aufstellung von kleinen bis sehr großen Bibliotheksbeständen geeignet. Die SfB wurde ursprünglich auf der Grundlage der hannoverschen Systematik (SSH) erarbeitet und zwischen 1978 und 1987 vom K.G.Saur-Verlag erstmals publiziert. Neben der ASB findet die SfB Anwendung in 40 öffentlichen und wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken. Die jetzt vorliegende Überarbeitung berücksichtigt fachlich neue Entwicklungen und richtet sich terminologisch soweit wie möglich nach dem Vokabular der Schlagwortnormdatei. Der Buchausgabe der SfB liegt eine maschinenlesbare Version auf 3,5"-Diskette bei. Eine regelmäßige Aktualisierung ist vorgesehen

- Abstract
- Es scheint naheliegend, daß der Unsicherheit, welche durch die "Vielfalt der möglichen sprachlichen Ausdrucksweisen für einen Sachverhalt" beim Beschlagworter ausgelöst wird, dadurch begegnet werden soll, "daß immer nur eine der möglichen Formen gewählt wird". Der Ruf nach einer "Standardisie- rung der Schlagwörter" geht damit Hand in Hand. Zwei Ergebnisse dieser Standardisierungsbemühungen werden im folgenden dargestellt; ein Punkt aber sollte dabei nicht übersehen werden: "Ein allgemein akzeptiertes Verfahren der Inhaltsanalyse gibt es bisher nicht und es ist offen, ob das Problem überhaupt gelöst werden kann." Standardisiert kann demnach nur das Schlagwortsystem werden, nicht aber seine konkrete Anwendung bei der inhaltlichen Erschließung von Dokumenten.

- Abstract
- Der österreichische Computerpionier Heinz Zemanek hat mit dem Lötkolben in der Hand begonnen, Computer zu bauen. Er hat die Entwicklung des Computers aktiv miterlebt - von der Relais-Additionsschaltung bis zum Halbleiter-Chip, von der Lochstreifen-Befehlseingabe bis zur formalen Definition der Programmiersprachen. Er hat kybernetische Modelle mit Studenten und Mitarbeitern gebaut und programmiert. Gemeinsam mit seinem Kollegen Konrad Zuse gilt er als Begründer der modernen Datenverarbeitung in Europa. 1954 baute er das Mailüfterl einen volltransistorisierten Binär-Dezimal-Rechenautomaten", der aus 3.000 Transistoren, 5.000 Dioden und 30 km Draht bestand. Mit einer Breite von 4 Metern, einer Höhe von 2,5 Metern und einer Tiefe von 50 Zentimetern war das Ungetüm gegenüber den damaligen Röhrenrechnern klein. Auch mit kybernetischen Grundmodellen wie der "Maus im Labyrinth", der "künstlichen Schildkröte" oder dem "Homöostat" betrat er Neuland.

- Zum diesjährigen Bibliothekartag lag die gewohnte Neuauflage der 'Informationen' nur als 'Baustelle' in Papierform vor. Allen Interessenten wurden auf das künftige Angebot im Netz hingewiesen. Nun ist es soweit: Die 7. Aufl. liegt im Netz und bietet wieder aktuelle Zahlen, Daten und Fakten (Stand: 31.12.97). Neu ist die Darstellung des KOBV (Kooperativer Bibliotheksverbund Berlin-Brandenburg) und die Beschreibung der überregionalen Verbunddienstleistung GKD. Auf die Bibliographie ist verzichtet worden

- Der im Titel genannte Bericht der gleichnamigen Arbeitsgruppe der IFLA wird als theoretische Grundlage für den Katalogisierungsunterricht verwendet. Dieser Vortrag schildert, wie wir die Ideen des Berichts im Katalogisierungsunterricht der Royal School of Library and Information Science, Kopenhagen umgesetzt haben.
