- Abstract
- Dieser Band gibt einen Überblick über 500 Jahre deutsche Buchhandelsgeschichte, über das Schreiben, Herstellen, Verkaufen und Lesen von Büchern. Angesprochen werden nicht nur Fachleute, sondern alle, die Interesse an Büchern und Literatur haben. Buchhandelsgeschichte bedeutet für Wittmann nicht nur eine Geschichte der (Sortiments-)Buchhandlungen. Buchhandel meint hier die Gesamtprozesse der Vermittlung von geistigem Kulturgut eines Autors über die materielle Speicherung dieses geistigen Produkts in Form von Büchern, die Finanzierung und Verbreitung durch Verlage und Sortimentsbuchhandlungen bis hin zum Leser. Wittmann teilt das von ihm behandelte halbe Jahrtausend seit Erfindung des Buchdrucks in zwölf Epochen auf und geht in jedem seiner Kapitel eben nicht nur auf Fragen der Herstellung und Verbreitung von Büchern ein (also die eigentliche Druck-, Verlags- und Buchhandelsgeschichte), sondern stellt auch jeweils fundierte Reflexionen über das Bild und die Rolle von Autoren sowie die Erwartungshaltungen, Vorlieben und Kenntnisse der Leser an. Dieser weite Blickwinkel bedingt natürlich, dass das dargebotenen Material für die jeweiligen Epochen nicht sehr ausführlich sein kann. Wittmann beschränkt sich häufig auf prägnante Beispiele für die jeweiligen Forschungsperspektiven. Seine Vorgehensweise bietet jedoch andererseits einen großen Vorteil: Dieses Buch ist eine interessante Lektüre nicht nur für Leute, die sich direkt für Buchhandelsgeschichte interessieren, sondern auch für solche, die einen Blick auf den Wandel des Autoren- und Leserbildes in der deutschen Gesellschaft der letzten 500 Jahre werfen wollen.

- Abstract
- Gesellschaftliche Kommunikation stützt sich seit beinahe 3000 Jahren auf Bibliotheken und ihre Vorformen. Informationen, die unverfälscht zur Verfügung stehen sollen, werden seit der Erfindung und Verbreitung der Schrift auf den verschiedenen Trägermedien gespeichert und in Bibliotheken gesammelt, aufbewahrt, geordnet, bereitgestellt und vermittelt. In der jüngsten Zeit hat die Popularisierung der digitalen Medien die Informationskultur zu verändern begonnen: Bei vielen ist der Irrglaube entstanden, mit dem Internet stehe ein Medium zur Verfügung, das den Zugang zu allen Informationen von jedem Ort aus eröffne; so werden Bibliotheken mitunter als Fossilien der Gutenberg-Ära angesehen. Mit diesem Band wollen die Autoren belegen, dass professionelles Informationsmanagement in der Informationsgesellschaft wichtiger ist denn je. Darüber hinaus wollen sie unter Beweis stellen, dass Bibliotheken und bibliothekarische Techniken sich hervorragend dafür eignen - vorausgesetzt allerdings, die nötigen Innovationen und Kooperationen werden zügig eingeleitet und konsequent praktiziert.

Der nunmehr vorgelegte Band - man beachte auch den veränderten Titel (und Untertitel) - stammt von einem vierköpfigen Autoren-team. Die Verfasser kommen aus den bibliotheks- und informationswissenschaftlichen Instituten der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Engelbert Plassmann, Konrad Umlauf) bzw. der Fachhochschule Köln (Hermann Rösch) und aus dem Bereich der Öffentlichen Bibliotheken (Jürgen Seefeldt, Landesbibliothekszentrum Rheinland-Pfalz). Das 2006 erschienene Buch wurde bereits mehrfach rezensiert, sodass die vorliegende Besprechung trotz Umfang und Bedeutung des Werkes nicht episch auszufallen braucht. In diesen Besprechungen war die Resonanz - sieht man von dem (teilweise unhaltbaren) Genörgel in ProLibris ab - über wiegend positiv, nach meinem Dafürhalten durchaus zu recht. So meint Ute Schwens, den Verfassern sei es "gelungen, eine komplexe Materie lesbar darzustellen und aus unterschiedlichen Blickwinkeln ein facettenreiches Bild zusammenzusetzen", Peter Vodosek spricht von "geschickt aufbereitete[r] Information, ideen- und faktenreich [.] kohärent dargeboten", Dieter Schmidmaier nennt den Band eine "Bereicherung der bibliotheks- und informationswissenschaftlichen Literatur". Dem kann ich mich voll anschließen, nicht so ganz dagegen der Meinung, das Buch sei vor allem für die Zielgruppe der Studierenden (Schmidmaier bzw. auch das Autorenteam) oder "für den Start ins Berufsleben" (Schwens) geeignet. Ich denke, dass es dafür in vielen Abschnitten bereits zuviel an Wissen und (bibliothekarischer) Erfahrung voraussetzt. Obwohl es gut geschrieben und gut lesbar ist, ist dies kein leicht zu lesendes Buch (wie selbst Schmidmaier konzediert). Eine richtige Einführung hätte viel umfangreicher, vielfach weiter ausholend, didaktisch erläuternd usw. geraten müssen - dann hätte sie aber keiner verlegt, gekauft und gelesen. So ist das eben. Dennoch: Jene, die sich im Bereich der Bibliotheks- und Informationswelt (Deutschlands) bereits ganz gut auskennen, werden wohl ungleich mehr von diesem Werk profitieren (falls sie es tatsächlich lesen) als blutige Anfänger (die dies als "Studis" vielleicht tun müssen).
Zu Aufbau und Inhalt: In einer Einleitung werden die grundsätzlichen Positionen der Verfasser offengelegt. Diese sind vor allem: eine von der Systemtheorie Luhmanns geprägte (und gelegentlich dessen Fachjargon evozierende) soziologische Perspektive, das Verständnis einer integrativen Bibliotheks- und Informationswissenschaft, eine als modern zu bezeichnende historische Perspektive, sowie das Bestreben, neue Wege zu gehen und Aussagen von längerfristiger Gültigkeit zu treffen. Darauf folgen acht Kapitel Inhalt, ein neuntes als Zusammenschau und Schlusswort, ein Literaturverzeichnis, ein Verzeichnis der Internet-Adressen (leider ohne Datumsangaben), ein Abkürzungsverzeichnis sowie ein (gutes) Sachregister. Alle Kapitel sind wohl strukturiert und jeweils mit einem abschließenden "Ausblick» versehen. Behandelt werden: - die begrifflichen Grundlagen von Information und Bibliothek sowie die historischen/soziologischen Entwicklungslinien (Kapitel 1), - die strukturellen Entwicklungen der deutschen Bibliotheken hin zum funktional differenzierten Bibliothekssystem sowie die technischen Entwicklungen (Kapitel 2), - das deutsche Bibliothekswesen mit der Darstellung von Träger- und Förderinstitutionen, der Arten/Typen von Bibliotheken und ihrer rechtlichen Rahmenbedingungen (Kapitel 3), - Netze und Kooperationen, d.h. im einzelnen Verbände, Partner/Förderer des Bibliothekswesens, internationale und nationale Zusammenarbeit, insbesondere im Rahmen von Erwerbung, Erschließung, Benutzung, sowie die Entwicklungen hin zu einem nationalen Wissenschaftsportal (Kapitel 4), - die zahlreichen im Bibliotheks- und Informationswesen relevanten Normen, Standards, Richtlinien und Empfehlungen (Kapitel 5), - die von den Bibliotheken gebotenen - klassischen wie neuartigen - Dienstleistungen, insbesondere auch moderne (digitale) Formen von Informations- und Auskunftsdiensten (Kapitel 6), - Management (Marketing, Aufbau, Personal, Controlling, Werbung/PR) und insbesondere Bestandsmanagement (Kapitel 7), sowie - Ausbildungs- und Berufsfragen, von den Anfängen der Professionali-sierung im 19. Jahrhundert bis hin zu den die Spartentrennungen überwindenden modernen Studien- und Ausbildungsentwicklungen (Kapitel 8)."

- Ein Buch ist ein Buch ist ein Buch. Bücher sind Informationsträger, kulturelle Identitätsträger und Kultobjekte. Sie werden geschrieben, gelesen und gesammelt, katalogisiert, klassifiziert, rezensiert. Das Buch ist eine der Säulen der abendländischen Zivilisation. Seit sich unbedarften Beobachtern das Ende der Gutenberg-Galaxie anzubahnen scheint, ist auch das öffentliche Interesse am Buch gestiegen. Nikolaus Wegmann hat sich in seiner kürzlich erschienenen Habilitationsschrift mit dem Suchen und Finden von Büchern beschäftigt und dabei eine breite Palette von Themen gestreift: Von der Bibliothek als Moloch und Mülldeponie über die Bedeutung von Katalogen bis hin zur poststrukturalistischen Literaturtheorie reicht sein Spektrum. Die Bibliothek, so lesen wir, ist nicht nur «simpler Einstellplatz für Bücher», sondern eine «hochkomplexe technische Installation, in der sich epistemologische, soziale wie politische und zunehmend auch kommerzielle Elemente bündeln». Doch wie kann die Bibliothek diese Funktionen heute alle wahrnehmen, wenn in den ersten 450 Jahren nach der Einführung des Buchdruckes durch Johannes Gutenberg rund 10 Millionen Bücher gedruckt wurden, zurzeit aber jedes Jahr eine Million erscheinen, die in den Regalen der Bibliotheken gesammelt und katalogisiert werden sollten? Was also soll in der Bibliothek gesammelt werden? Ausserdem: Wie lässt sich das Gesammelte wieder finden? Wegmann beschreibt nicht die bibliothekswissenschaftlichen oder informationswissenschaftlichen Debatten, die in letzten Jahren zu dieser Frage geführt wurden, sondern er untersucht die kulturwissenschaftliche Praxis von Buchmenschen quer durch die Geschichte. Das ist ein neuer und anregender Ansatz. Sein Buch hebt sich damit wohltuend ab von der Flut bibliothekswissenschaftlicher Elaborate, die mehr oder weniger geistreich das Ende der Gutenberg-Galaxie bejammern. Wegmann interpretiert viele Themen gegen den Strich, argumentiert nicht selten originell und mit einem breiten Wissen. Nicht immer ist dem Leser der rote Faden der Untersuchung präsent, zu oft plaudert Wegmann einige Seiten lang über Nebensächlichkeiten und Details. Doch ist nicht gerade dies - Lektüre als vom Autor geplante Reise des Lesers - der Vorzug des Buches?

- Abstract
- Bibliothekarische Sacherschließung stellt zunächst eine praktische Aufgabe dar. Gleichwohl sollte bibliothekarische Sacherschließung als Ganzes und in einem wesentlichen Teilbereich wie der Systematischen Freihandaufstellung auch in ihrer historischen Entwicklung und Bedeutung gesehen werden. Ein bedeutender Aspekt bleibt die notwendige Einordnung in das größere Umfeld, vor allem der Bibliotheksgeschichte, aber auch der Wissenschaftsgeschichte. Schwerpunkte bilden hier die Geschichte der Dezimalmethode mit den Teilbereichen UDK und DDC und die Nachkriegsgeschichte der klassifikatorischen Erschließung an wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken Deutschlands, einschließlich der neuen Entwicklung der Verbundarbeit in der Klassifikation. Bedeutend sind weiter die Beispiele für den Vergleich von Aufstellungsklassifikationen als Annäherung an eine zu entwickelnde Methodik. Dabei stellen sich auch Fragen des Inhalts ausgewählter Klassifikationssysteme in historischer Betrachtung. Dies entspricht bereits dem Bibliotheksplan 73, der immerhin Fragen der Bibliotheksgeschichte und der Klassifikation zu den genuinen Bereichen bibliothekswissenschaftlicher Forschung rechnet.

Das Kapitel über die Geschichte der Systematischen Freihandaufstellung liefert daher Beispiele aus Klosterbibliotheken des Mittelalters bis hin zum Bereich der Privatbibliotheken von Ärzten späterer Zeit. Wichtige internationale Klassifikationen sowie Neuentwicklungen an neueren deutschen Universitätsbibliotheken versieht der Autor allerdings mit kritischen Anmerkungen betreffend die Unterschiede innerhalb von Systematiken. Dem folgt eine Gegenüberstellung von Aufstellungssystematiken bzw. Beispielen für den Vergleich von Aufstellungsklassifikationen. B. Lorenz beweist in seinen "Notizen" als "Wechselspiel" deutlich, wie untrennbar die Geschichte der bibliothekarischen Sacherschließung von der Geschichte der Wissenschaften ist. Letztendlich kommt der Autor übereinstimmend mit Klara Erdei zu dem Schluß, "dass der Online-Katalog nicht den Untergang sondern eher eine Renaissance der bibliothekarischen Klassifikation mit sich bringen kann: eine noch benutzerfreundlichere, vielseitigere Realisierung der systematischen Erschließung und Suche". Das vorliegende Werk ist keine technische Auflistung von formalen, pragmatischen oder strukturellen Fragen und es ist auch keine weitere Darstellung des Wesens der Systematik. Vielmehr ist es dem Autor erfolgreich gelungen, den Fragen der hierarchisch höchst- bzw. hochstehenden Gliederungen und des Inhalts ausgewählter Klassifikationssysteme in historischer Betrachtung nachzugehen."

- Bibliotheken haben durch die Jahrhunderte Bücher gesammelt und aufbewahrt, sie geordnet und zugänglich gemacht. Aus der chaotischen Mannigfaltigkeit der Bücher haben sie ein organisiertes Universum geschaffen, das planvolles Studieren ermöglicht. Das hat ihnen neben Bewunderung und Passion auch fanatischen Hass und den Verdacht eingetragen, der staubige Ort zu sein, wohin die Bücher gehen, um zu sterben. Matthew Battles, der Verfasser dieser einzigartigen Geschichte der Bibliomanie, ist beides: ein großer Freund der Bücher und der Bibliotheken.In sieben Kapiteln nimmt er den Leser mit auf eine Zeitreise durch Paläste und Ruinen des Wissens, von der Bibliothek in Alexandria über Klosterzellen bis zur British Library, von Privatbibliotheken und sozialistischen Lesesälen bis ins Informationszeitalter. Ausführungen zu den Katalogentwicklungen von Panizzi und Dewey: "Panizzi machte sich sofort an jene Arbeit, die ihm einen bedeutenden Platz in der Geschichte der British Library sichern sollte: das Katalogisieren der Bestände. Der erste gedruckte Katalog der Bibliothek, der 1810 erschienen war, umfasste sieben Bände. Wie bei allen Katalogen dieser Zeit handelte es sich um eine einfache alphabetische Auflistung der Bücher in der Bibliothek, die den Bibliothekaren als Bestandsverzeichnis der Bücher ihrer Abteilung diente. Die meisten Bibliotheken schlossen jedes Jahr für einige Wochen, um den Bibliothekaren die Möglichkeit zu geben, die Liste durchzugehen und zu prüfen, ob jedes Buch noch an seinem Platz in den Regalen stand. Für mehr waren die Kataloge nicht vorgesehen. Schließlich kamen die Leser generell gut vorbereitet in die Bibliothek; sie wussten, welche Bücher sie sich ansehen und was sie darin finden wollten." "Bei seiner Beschäftigung mit obskuren Pamphleten hatte Panizzi das dichte Netz von Verbindungen kennen gelernt, das Autoren und Verleger bei Druckwerken miteinander verknüpfte. Eine Abhandlung war die Antwort auf eine andere, welche vielleicht eine Neuauflage von Artikeln aus Journalen und Zeitungen darstellte oder Auszüge aus Büchern enthielt; sie konnte zur gleichen Zeit, in verschiedenen Formen und unter verschiedenen Impressen erscheinen. Entscheidende Informationen wie der Name des Autors, des Herausgebers sowie Ort und Datum der Veröffentlichung konnten unvollständig oder falsch sein oder sogar ganz fehlen. Panizzi entwickelte eine Reihe von Regeln, mit deren Hilfe sich diese Verhältnisse im Katalog wiedergeben ließen, so dass die Bibliothekare - und, ganz entscheidend: die Leser - sie herausfinden und verfolgen konnten. Ohne es anfänglich beabsichtigt zu haben, trug er dazu bei, den Bibliothekskatalog von einer reinen Bestandsliste zu einem Instrument für Entdeckungen zu machen. Man ist versucht zu sagen, dass seine Entdeckung der Intertextualität selbst zwischen den allerprofansten Büchern ein Vorbote für die vernetzte Welt des digitalen Zeitalters war; vermutlich ist es aber passender anzumerken, dass aus dem vorteilhaften Blickwinkel der vernetzten Welt Panizzis Katalog wie die Anfänge des Internets anmutet." "Panizzi wurde 1837 zum Verwalter der gedruckten Bücher ernannt; sieben Jahre später war gerade der erste Band des Katalogs erschienen, der den Buchstaben A behandelte. Nicht jeder war erfreut darüber. »Den krapriziösen und exotischen Launen eines Bibliothekars ... sollte es nicht gestattet sein, ... den Fortschritt eines praktischen Katalogs aufzuhalten«, schrieb ein gewisser Sir Nicholas Harris Nicolas, ein gebildeter Gentleman mit einer Vorliebe für Schiffsgeschichte. Im Spectator veröffentlichte er ein Reihe von Artikeln, in denen er den neuen Katalog von 1846 verurteilte. Außerdem äußerte er, Panizzis Katalog sei »nach einem so abstrusen System aufgebaut, dass für seine Erstellung 91 Regeln vonnöten waren; die meisten davon, wenn nicht sogar alle, müssen auswendig gelernt werden, bevor irgendjemand auch nur erahnen kann, unter welcher Rubrik selbst das gewöhnlichste Buch in unserer Sprache zu finden ist.« Zu Beginn des Projektes hatte Panizzi entschieden, die Bibliotheksnummer jedes Buches in den entsprechenden Katalogeintrag aufzunehmen. Wie eine Standnummer von Büchern in einer modernen Bibliothek gab die Bibliotheksnummer genau den Standort an, an dem das Buch in den Fächern der Bibliotheksregale zu finden war. Anders als die modernen Standnummern aber bezogen sich die Bibliotheksnummern nicht auf einen Wissensbereich, sondern auf einen Ort; sie sind keine Klassifizierungen, sondern nur Koordinaten." "Diese letzte Neuerung, der Zettelkatalog, war nicht Deweys Erfindung. Der erste berühmte Zettelkatalog war wahrscheinlich Edward Gibbons Bestandsverzeichnis auf den Rückseiten von Spielkarten. Um die Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts waren Karten bereits allgemein gebräuchlich bei Bibliothekaren, die der unbeherrschbaren Unordnung und den um Zusätze erweiterten Verzeichnissen trotzten. In den ersten Jahren des Jahrhunderts wurde ein Exzentriker namens William Coswell vom Harvard College eingestellt, um einen neuen Katalog anzulegen. Er kam auf die Idee, die alten Kataloge in Streifen zu schneiden und die einzelnen Einträge nach Themen in Gruppen zu ordnen. Dieses Werk wurde die Basis für den so genannten Slip-Katalog, der die jährliche Inventur der Sammlung für die Bibliothekare sehr viel einfacher machte. Harvard verwendete erst 1860 Karten, um einen öffentlichen Katalog zu erstellen - tatsächlich der erste Zettelkatalog, wie wir ihn heute kennen. Doch die Verwendung von Karten nahm schnell zu und wurde standardisiert; die Seiten von Deweys Bürobedarfskatalog für Bibliotheken sind voll mit Karten, Kästen, speziellen Schreibmaschinen und anderen Hilfsmitteln für die Pflege von Zettelkatalogen. Doch Dewey versuchte nicht nur, die Zettelkataloge zu standardisieren, sondern jeden die Bibliothek betreffenden Aspekt. Auch diese Seite seiner Vision umfassender Kontrolle beleuchtet sein Bürobedarfskatalog für Bibliotheken: Hier finden sich die Tische, die Kartenständer, die Regale, die Datumsstempel, die Tintenfässer und die Stifte, von denen der Bibliothekar der Jahrhundertwende abhing, um seine Bibliothek so effizient wie möglich zu gestalten. Die Stühle zeigen einfache, elegante Linien, haben schlanke, unverzierte Beine und eine klare Form, um die Ansammlung von Staub unterhalb der Sitzfläche zu verhindern. Patentierte Bücherregale, Stützen und Etiketten vereinheitlichten die Suche nach Büchern, unabhängig von der jeweiligen Bibliothek oder Bücherei. Auf Deweys Anregung hin gab es eine Unmenge von Hilfsmitteln zur effizienten Gestaltung der Arbeit des Bibliothekars: spezialisierte Etiketten, Taschen, Büromaterialien, Schreibfedern und diverse andere Angebote. Der Katalog stellte die Mittel zur Verfügung, um aus jeder langweiligen Dorfbücherei eine effektive Maschine zu machen, mit deren Hilfe man den Menschen Büchern an die Hand geben konnte - eine frühe Utopie vom Lesen im Maschinenzeitalter." - Rez.: Deutschlandradio vom 24.3.2007 (Jörg Plath): "In Schriftkulturen verkörpern Bibliotheken das kollektive Gedächtnis einer Gesellschaft. Daher ist "Eine Geschichte der Bibliothek", wie sie Matthew Battles im Untertitel seines Buches "Die Welt der Bücher" verspricht, eine gewaltige Aufgabe. Man kann Battles nicht vorwerfen, an ihr gescheitert zu sein. Denn der Bibliothekar der US-amerikanischen Elite-Universität Harvard hat nicht einmal geahnt, was er da in Angriff nimmt. Unter einer "vollständigen Geschichte der Bibliothek" stellt er sich in positivistischer Naivität eine "Dokumentation aller jemals existiert habenden Bibliotheken, ihrer Orte und Formen" vor. Das ist natürlich unmöglich, weshalb Battles lieber nach jenen geschichtlichen Augenblicken suchen will, "in denen Leser, Autoren und Bibliothekare nach der eigentlichen Bedeutung der Bibliothek fragen. Nach der "eigentlichen" Bedeutung? Und warum fragen nach ihr nur die Buchliebhaber, die Leser, Autoren und Bibliothekare? Warum nicht die Macht, die Bibliotheken doch finanziert und schützt - und nicht selten auch zerstört? Battles' selektiver Streifzug durch die Jahrtausende wählt die üblichen, bekannten Stationen: Am Anfang steht die berühmte Bibliothek in Alexandria, dann folgen Aufstieg und Niedergang von Bibliotheken in Rom, in Klöstern, Universitäten und Nationalstaaten. Am Ende trauert Battles über den "Verlust der Bücher" durch das Internet. Mit einem sentimentalen Halbsatz handelt er also ab, was unter seinen Kollegen als Herausforderung der Zukunft gilt: die zunehmende Immaterialisierung des Wissens und der Umbau der Bibliotheken von Bücherdepots zu Informationsdienstleistern für alle denkbaren Medien.
Dennoch ist man dem Autor für seine Gegenwartsverachtung dankbar. Denn so endet sein Buch endlich - nach 250 undeutlich, unlogisch, teilweise falsch, stets aber fahrig mit Referaten aus anderen Werken gefüllten Seiten. Ausgespart bleiben Gegenwart und jüngste Vergangenheit, doch die Vergangenheit wird deshalb nicht etwa umfassend dargestellt. Nur bruchstückweise erläutert Battles etwa die Aufbewahrungsarten von Tontafeln, Papyrusrollen und Büchern. Ebenso fragmentarisch fallen seine Bemerkungen zur baulichen Gestalt der Bibliothek aus, bei denen es dem Autor die Verwendung des Eisens im 19. Jahrhundert besonders angetan hat. Dass seit Jahren die früher getrennten Bereiche Büchermagazin, Verwaltung und Lesesaal zusammenwachsen, weiß er offenbar nicht. Ebenso fehlen präzise Angaben zu den wissenssoziologisch interessanten Ordnungssystemen, mit denen die Bücherflut kanalisiert wird. Battles erwähnt lediglich die antike theologische Ordnung, in der alles Wissen von der Bibel abgeleitet wird, jene von Francis Bacon an der Schwelle zur Neuzeit, dann die eines gewissen Sanford (!) Berman aus Minnesota sowie die der Harvard-Universität, die so sinnige Sachgruppen wie "Beste Bücher" kennt.
Die seltsame Auswahl ist eine Folge der weitgehenden Beschränkung auf die USA, insbesondere auf Harvard, offenbar einem bis dato unbekannten Epizentrum der Bibliotheksentwicklung in der Neuzeit. Allenfalls die britische und die französische Nationalbibliothek finden daneben noch Erwähnung. Aus Deutschland ist betrüblich wenig zu berichten. Immerhin hat sich dort im Jahre 1933 eine Bücherverbrennung zugetragen, von der ein schockierter amerikanischer Korrespondent zu berichten wusste, dass "sogar die Bücher unserer Helen Keller" zu Asche wurden. Die zusammengeschusterten Bestandteile des Buches werden durch teilweise haarsträubende Überleitungssätze aneinandergereiht. Einer lautet: "Der Glanz des (römischen) Kaiserreichs reichte bis in die Zeit seines Niedergangs." Das muss ein schöner Niedergang gewesen sein. Auf dieses Buch aber fällt von nirgendwo ein Glanz."
