- Im dritten Band der Reihe Basiswissen Multimedia untersucht der Autor sechs Aspekte des Designs multimedialer Anwendungen. Holzinger spannt den Bogen von den wichtigsten Programmiergrundlagen, die ein Designer für die Erstellung einer multimedialen Anwendung benötigt, über die Themen Usability, Grafik- und Sound-Effekte bis hin zur Interoperabilität mit den Computersystemen, auf denen das multimediale Produkt laufen soll. Der Autor informiert die Leser über die aus seiner Sicht wichtigsten Implementierungs-Sprachen und Implementierungs-Werkzeuge, die zur Herstellung einer komplexen Multimedia-Anwendung nötig sind - von HTML überJava undJavaScript bis Perl. Bei den Werkzeugen bezieht er sich auf Autoren-Tools, die zumeist modular nach dem Prinzip WYSIWYG aufgebaut sind. Die Fülle der zur Verfügung stehenden Werkzeuge ist in übersichtlichen Schaubildern zusammengefaßt. - Abstract
- Dieses Buch bringt eine Einführung in die Katalogisierung für öffentliche Bibliotheken, der zweiten Auflage liegt die autorisierte Ausgabe der "Regeln für öffentliche Bibliotheken, RAK-ÖB" von 1986 zugrunde. Der Stoff wird gemäß dem Prinzip, das die Autorin in ihrer praktischen Arbeit verwendet hat, dargestellt: 1) Voranstellung der theoretischen Grundlagen; diese sind durch viele Beispiele erläutert; 2) praktische Beispiele anhand von kopierten Haupttitelseiten mit umfangreichen Erläuterungen und Angabe der betreffenden Paragraphen. Die Beispiele zur Theorie und auch die praktischen Beispiele wurden weitgehend aus dem Bestand einer typischen öffentlichen Bibliothek ausgewählt. Neben den allgemeinen RAK-ÖB-Bestimmungen werden auch die Alternativregeln, die deutschsprachige Ansetzungen der Namen und Sachtitel zulassen, berücksichtigt. Die zweite Auflage wurde auf die Ausgabe von 1986 der Regeln ausgerichtet, dadurch ergaben sich Änderungen und Erweiterungen. Auch ein Abschnitt über die Katalogisierung von Bilderbüchern wurde aufgenommen. Ziel des Buches ist die Einführung der Bibliothekare der öffentlichen Bibliotheken in das neue Regelwerk. Es ist sowohl für Studenten als auch für Bibliothekare, die sich den Stoff selbst aneignen wollen, gedacht. Außerdem vermittelt das Buch den Bibliothekaren, die sich entweder für die allgemeinen RAK-ÖB-Regeln oder die Alternativregeln entscheiden müssen, einen Überblick, wo die Alternativregeln Anwendung finden und wieviel einfacher und praxisnäher sie sind.

- Abstract
- Traditionell werden Thesauren in Listen dargestellt, doch die Existenz von Software legt nahe, die Möglichkeiten moderner Informationsvisualisierung auszuschöpfen.Wolfram Sieber evaluiert, ob und wie Software zur Thesaurus-Visualisierung über die reine Listendarstellung hinausgeht. Besonderes Augenmerk richtet er darauf, wie gut dabei die Chancen der Visualisierung - Stichworte prä-/attentive Wahrnehmung und Change Blindness - genutzt werden, bzw. wie gegen sie verstoßen und der Nutzer dadurch in seiner Arbeit behindert wird.Zugunsten einer soliden Entscheidungsgrundlage hat Sieber eine detaillierte Liste von Prüfkriterien zusammengestellt und sieben verschiedene Thesaurus-Visualisierer daran gemessen. Diese Liste kann als Grundlage für weitergehende Evaluierungen verwendet werden, bietet sich aber vor allem als Richtschnur bei der Entwicklung eigener Thesaurus- und Graph-Visualisierer an. Anwendern und interessierten Laien hilft sie, zur Auswahl stehende Graph-Visualisierer aus fachlicher Sicht, wissenschaftlich abgesichert zu beurteilen. Dieses Werk richtet sich an Entscheider, Entwickler und Anwender aus Informationswissenschaft und -praxis, Informatik, Dokumentation.

- In diesem Band 11 der Reihe Fortschritte der Wissensorganisation mit dem Titel Wissensspeicher in digitalen Räumen sind Beiträge enthalten, die auf die Vorträge der 11. Tagung der Deutschen Sektion der International Society of Knowledge Organnation 2008 in Konstanz zurückgehen. Diese Texte mußten nur in einigen Fällen aktualisiert werden, was für die damalige wie heutige Aktualität und Relevanz spricht.
