    Abstract
The emerging information superhighway will bring to homes and business the ability to access and manipulate a vast amount of information stored in a variety of forms in different databases. Multimedia systems facilitate the access and manipulation of such information across high-speed networks. Multimedia database systems (MDSs) are a new generation of database systems that will provide a unified and interactive framework for users to request and integrate information stored in a variety of media. Applications of such systems in scientific research, commercial and business activities (via interactive TV systems), law enforcement, and military operations are numerous an obvious. This book presents basic research on the theory, implementations, and applications of MDSs

    Abstract
Recent years have seen an explosive growth in the use of new database applications such as CAD/CAM systems, spatial information systems, and multimedia information systems. The needs of these applications are far more complex than traditional business applications. They call for support of objects with complex data types, such as images and spatial objects, and for support of objects with wildly varying numbers of index terms, such as documents. Traditional indexing techniques such as the B-tree and its variants do not efficiently support these applications, and so new indexing mechanisms have been developed. As a result of the demand for database support for new applications, there has been a proliferation of new indexing techniques. The need for a book addressing indexing problems in advanced applications is evident. For practitioners and database and application developers, this book explains best practice, guiding the selection of appropriate indexes for each application. For researchers, this book provides a foundation for the development of new and more robust indexes. For newcomers, this book is an overview of the wide range of advanced indexing techniques. "Indexing Techniques for Advanced Database Systems" is suitable as a secondary text for a graduate level course on indexing techniques, and as a reference for researchers and practitioners in industry.

    Abstract
Discussions and presentations dealt with attempts to clarify the different concepts in multimedia, object-oriented methods for multimedia, multimedia from psychological perspectives, synchronization problems in multimedia, ccoperative work using multimedia, multimedia interface builders, and so on. There was also a small exhibition presenting 4 different systems ranging from commercial products to research prototypes. The book is divided into 8 parts, on fundamentals, interaction, synchronization, demonstration presentations, cooperative work, information systems, multimedia systems and conclusions

    Abstract
The workshop covered a wide range of issues, including data visualisatio, applications of computer graphics and virtual reality, formal models of user interfaces, and evaluation methods for designers of database user interfaces. The authors come from a wide variety of research backgrounds, which span both the DBMS and HCI fields. Interfaces to Database Systems is unique in that it brings together different approaches from the database and HCI communities. It will provide essential reading for researchers in database systems, and also industrial developers of DBMS

    Abstract
Answering to the question how distributed information systems can serve management, especially lean management, the autors develop new theoretical insights for the future of decentralized firms and offer concepts for creating and maintaining distributed information systems. The book contains interesting prototypes in logistics and financial indistries and shows designs and applications of workflow systems. A state-of-the-art survey of the subject

    Abstract
This anthology is the first systematic introduction to the subject. 15 chapters by leading software agent researchers provide complementary coverage of the relevant issues. Multiagent systems and mobile agent approaches are presented in a well-balanced way and applied to the most important topic in future communication systems. In addition, the volume editors have provided a detailed introductory chapter
